Chapter 80: I Have an Idea
After a safe and uneventful trip back, Li Chengxi opened the shop door and told Audel to toss her clothes into the washing machine first, and to wear them again after they were dry.
Since the round trip took less than an hour, it didn't interfere with the store's business hours.
Audel continued to wander between the shelves, seemingly unlikely to lose interest until she had thoroughly studied every product on them.
Li Chengxi, as usual, started up his laptop to check on the situation in the game.
Due to the four-hour time difference, the screen was still dark, with basically everyone asleep.
Li Chengxi glanced at the fields in front of the city gate, then opened the map to search for the location of the oil he had seen before.
Li Chengxi had known about the oil in Leon Territory for a while, but he hadn't thought to tell Viola.
After all, although oil could spawn the US military, utilizing it wasn't without its challenges.
Li Chengxi felt that Viola probably wouldn't have a use for it, so he naturally didn't mention it.
However, Audel had told him that the oils in Leon Territory had been completely depleted in order to deal with the wolf pack.
Feeding the commoners was not a problem; their food was mostly boiled or roasted anyway.
The oil was mainly used for lighting lamps.
But for the army, oil was an important strategic resource.
In this era, fire attacks were far more effective than hacking away with machetes.
Even if they couldn't make good use of the oil, using it as fuel wouldn't be a waste.
Yesterday, Li Chengxi had only mentioned it casually to Audel.
It was actually quite far from Leon Stronghold.
Li Chengxi wanted to look at the map, preferably to draw a simple route map for Viola.
But as soon as he opened the map, his attention was immediately drawn to a long, narrow explored area near the coast.
Most of the map was covered in a black fog of war, which only cleared when Li Chengxi's followers passed through.
This meant that Viola had finally sent people by ship outside of Leon Territory.
Li Chengxi zoomed in on the explored area at sea and soon found a slender-looking fast ship.
"Viola seems to have sent a ship out of Leon Territory. Do you know where it's going?"
Audel, who was taking notes among the shelves, replied without looking up.
"It's probably headed for Sailing Harbor. That's the city guarded by Wendy's grandfather and father. I hear it's under siege."
"Isn't that very dangerous?"
"Sailing Harbor is the most important trade city in the northern Avarus Demon Kingdom, and also the most well-fortified fortress city. It won't be easily captured. Even if it's surrounded, it can still receive supplies by sea."
Speaking of which, something suddenly occurred to Audel.
"However, the Tandelon Demon Kingdom has a new, cutting-edge magical convergence cannon. If they use that to attack the city, it might indeed be a bit dangerous."
"What's that?"
"The fleet you destroyed that was heading to Leon Territory had them. They're very powerful."
Li Chengxi thought for a moment.
"Oh, the one that shoots lightning, right? The animation effect was pretty nice."
Li Chengxi had indeed seen it, but at the time he just thought there was a powerful mage on board casting spells and didn't think much of it.
In any case, it had already sunk to the bottom of the sea.
The most powerful magitech weapon in mortal hands was only evaluated as "pretty nice."
Audel became deeply aware that Li Chengxi was indeed the Demon God.
The fast ship shown on the screen was currently taking a sea route around the Spine of the World Mountains.
There was no flat land in sight yet, so it would probably take some time before the map of Sailing Harbor was revealed.
Li Chengxi stopped paying attention to it, zoomed out again, and continued to search for the exact location of the oil.
Then he discovered something else of interest.
To the north of Leon Stronghold, in an area of complete snow mountains and snowy plains, there was a small, explored patch within a large black fog of war.
This was very strange.
Leon Territory was already on the border of civilization.
Further north, there was nothing but rocks and snow, and the natural environment was extremely harsh.
Even if Viola sent out scouts, they wouldn't go this deep.
Besides, how did the scouts manage to explore a small patch in the middle of a vast fog of war?
Teleportation?
It was like a single footprint in the snow, with no tracks leading to or from it.
This caught Li Chengxi's attention.
He moved the camera over and zoomed in.
At first, all he saw were snow-capped mountains and snow-covered plains, with occasional animals appearing and disappearing from view.
Zooming in further, the game's camera passed through a mountain peak and automatically positioned itself inside a cave within the mountain.
Then Li Chengxi saw a pixel-style, chibi-looking, slightly chubby white dragon, sound asleep in a frost-covered cave.
"So it's you..."
This white dragon had spoken of allegiance, but in reality, ever since it left Leon Territory and returned to the snowy mountains, Li Chengxi had completely lost sight of it.
After all, it wasn't a follower back then.
Now that a small area had suddenly lit up, it was possible that during this time, the white dragon had actually studied the scripture Viola gave it, and had even prayed, truly becoming a follower, and Li Chengxi just hadn't noticed.
"By the way, what's the reputation of dragons in your world?"
Audel thought for a moment upon hearing this.
"Bandits?"
"... Their reputation is that bad?"
"Many nobles like to use dragons as their crests, because dragons are the most powerful creatures in the mortal world. But their behavior isn't really anything to boast about. Because of their uncontrollable love for precious metals, combined with their great power, they will always try to acquire wealth by any means necessary."
"For example, by robbing people directly?"
"Yes. Of course, some dragons choose to take human form and accumulate wealth through business or other means. Dragons that resort to direct robbery are less common now."
Speaking of dragons, Audel remembered something.
"I heard from Viola that the Demon God subdued a white dragon not long ago."
"I'm looking at it right now. Although it's considered a follower now, I still feel like it only bowed its head back then to save its own life."
"Indeed. Dragons can hardly be said to have much dignity, but they aren't averse to submitting to the strong. It's probably still laughing to itself in its heart."
"Really?"
"Yes. We have a few dragons in the City of Academics too. I've talked with them. Some of the younger dragons even came to my door to ask if I needed a mount or something."
"... That's just too humble."
"For a dragon, having someone to back them up and being able to learn a few things is nothing unacceptable."
Thinking about it carefully, it seemed to make sense.
Just as Audel had said, for the white dragon, being able to serve under a powerful deity might be something it was secretly celebrating.
Li Chengxi opened the white dragon's data panel again and took a look.
He felt that perhaps Viola could make use of it.
After all, Viola was at war with an enemy nation.
Having a dragon was equivalent to having an extra flying tank.
Just as he was about to move the game screen, Li Chengxi suddenly saw something golden under the white dragon's round belly.
Zooming in a little, he discovered that the golden things were actually a layer of gold coins, spread out like a carpet.
Dragons had a habit of collecting treasure.
The older the dragon, the more massive its hoard.
This was quite similar to Li Chengxi's own impression of dragons.
He looked at the number of gold coins displayed in the upper-left corner of the screen, then at the gold coins spread beneath the white dragon's belly.
An idea suddenly popped into his head...
