Chapter 79 A Trip Out
As for this organization called Section Nine, Li Chengxi understood them to be like secret agents from the movies, dealing with unknown, classified missions all day long.
But in reality, secret agents were clearly not as ridiculously cool and badass as in the movies.
Being worked to death was the norm.
Li Chengxi expressed some sympathy before hanging up the phone.
“Who were you communicating with just now?”
“Mm, Qian Sen. The one you met yesterday.”
Li Chengxi placed his phone on the table and said, a little surprised,
“You don't seem interested in the phone.”
“It's just a magical communicator. What's so novel about it?”
Ever since Audel arrived at the convenience store, she had held a rather strong curiosity about everything.
Li Chengxi had thought she would also marvel at the phone.
But in reality, she wasn't interested.
Li Chengxi was starting to understand this girl's style.
She had immense enthusiasm for things she had never seen before, but if it was something magic could solve, or something similar, she would appear rather unenthusiastic.
For example, the hair dryer, or the telephone.
“Can magic let you talk to people from very far away?”
“No, long-distance magical communication has always been a difficult technical problem to solve... Could it be that this thing called a phone can do it? How does it solve the problem?”
“Er... I only know that the signal first goes through a nearby base station, and then travels to farther places through the network formed by these base stations.”
“Oh, then that's similar to our solution. Not very interesting.”
“You have satellites too?”
“What's a satellite?”
“It's a type of electronic device that flies in outer space. It can relay signals from a ground base station to another, more distant base station.”
“Oh, oh, oh, we never thought of that.”
This seemed to have inspired Audel again.
She quickly took out her notebook and wrote down her thoughts.
Many inventions and technologies aren't impossible to create, but simply that no one has thought of them.
Speaking of which, she isn't actually thinking of using magic to launch a satellite into the sky, is she...
Putting that aside for now, Li Chengxi asked,
“Do you want to buy some clothes? I see you only have this one set, you should have something to change into.”
“My clothes aren't dirty. Is there a need?”
It seemed Audel wasn't very interested in clothes.
“Mainly because your clothes are rather unique here. Think about it, isn't what everyone else wears different from yours?”
Audel recalled Lei Lei's clothes, as well as the clothes worn by the people who came to the store to buy things during this time.
They were indeed very different.
“No wonder I always felt like people were staring at me. Was it because I looked too strange? Alright, I probably do need some clothes.”
“Before that, you should dye your hair first. I have hair dye here.”
Besides her pair of silver-blue eyes, her aqua-blue hair was also too eye-catching.
“Understood. I was actually a little curious why everyone in the Divine Realm has black hair.”
Audel tapped her own head with a finger, and her short, aqua-blue hair turned black at a speed visible to the naked eye.
“This should be fine, right?”
“Magic is truly convenient...”
“It's just a simple illusion. Using chemicals to dye hair will damage the scalp.”
She actually knows that hair dye damages the scalp!
Just how is the technology tree over there allocated?
The convenience store business was all about endurance.
Li Chengxi couldn't get rich in this line of work, but he definitely wouldn't starve to death.
The only benefit was that if something came up, he could go take care of it anytime, without needing to ask for leave like at a regular job.
Li Chengxi had originally planned to take Audel to a nearby clothing store in the afternoon, but after Audel pushed the door open and stepped out for less than three seconds, she backed right in again.
Not only was there a four-hour time difference between the game and reality, but the seasons were also different.
On Li Chengxi's side, it was the height of summer in mid-August, while the Leon Territory was in early May.
Audel didn't notice this difference at first.
After all, Li Chengxi's store had the air conditioner running all the time, so the temperature might have been similar to the Leon Territory in early May.
But the moment she stepped out and felt the afternoon sun poking at her skin, the feeling was quite a shock.
Moreover, Audel was still wearing her heavy, thick robe.
So, the planned trip to the clothing store had to be postponed.
They waited until the next morning, taking advantage of the cool air before heading out.
On her third day on Earth, Audel finally stepped out of the convenience store.
Perhaps it was the overly open and unfamiliar environment that made Audel clutch tightly to the corner of Li Chengxi's shirt.
But her curiosity hadn't diminished in the slightest, and she looked left and right the entire way.
Especially when they got on the bus, she pressed her face against the glass window, looking at the tall buildings on both sides of the road, occasionally letting out soft gasps of 'ooh, ooh, ooh' or 'wow, wow, wow'.
Of course, to avoid attracting unnecessary attention, Li Chengxi had her change into a pair of capri pants and a shirt he used to wear in middle school.
One could only say that whether clothes looked good or not had a lot to do with the person wearing them.
When Li Chengxi wore this outfit, he thought it was particularly ugly, but when Audel wore it, she gave off a sense of closeness, like the girl next door.
They arrived safely at a locally famous clothing street.
It wasn't far from Li Chengxi's store, only about three stops by bus.
If you were looking for high-end, big-brand clothes, you came to the wrong place.
This was the kind of place where they'd stick on whatever brand label you wanted.
But for everyday wear, it was more than enough.
“Are there any styles you like?”
Li Chengxi knew nothing about women's clothing.
When he bought his own clothes, he just picked whatever looked about right.
“No skirts. Anything but skirts is fine. They are simply an invention of the devil.”
It really felt like Audel had some kind of psychological trauma regarding skirts.
No skirts made things simple.
Li Chengxi led Audel through the store and picked out a unisex-style summer outfit, a lightweight tracksuit, and a set of loungewear with hot pants and an off-the-shoulder tank top to use as pajamas.
The entire shopping process was characterized by being simple, fast, and cheap.
Li Chengxi didn't know fashion, and Audel didn't care.
She tried them on, and if the size was right, they bought them.
Three outfits in total cost less than three hundred and took twenty minutes.
By now, the sun was getting higher, and even though it wasn't yet eight o'clock, it already felt a bit muggy.
Li Chengxi saw that an ice cream shop not far away had opened and planned to take Audel to buy some.
Although his own store had popsicles, there was indeed a huge difference compared to a specialized ice cream shop.
Getting Li Chengxi's order was simple; it was handed directly to him.
When it was Audel's turn, who knows what the young male shopkeeper was thinking, but he started playing the usual Turkish ice cream tricks on her.
It was probably because he thought Audel was cute.
She had just reached for it when the ice cream was whisked away, and she grabbed at empty air.
After much effort, she finally caught it, only to look down and see she was only holding the cone; the ice cream was still with the shopkeeper.
If he had nothing better to do, Li Chengxi might have actually been bored enough to compete with the shopkeeper's hand speed, but Audel didn't seem to know it was just a joke.
Li Chengxi saw Audel lower her head and start muttering something after failing to get the ice cream several times.
This scared him so much that he quickly snatched the ice cream and pulled Audel away.
My goodness, that was too dangerous.
He was really afraid Audel would turn that mischievous shopkeeper into a goat or a toad or something.
Better to save Qian Sen some trouble.
