Chapter 61: Do You Still Have a Fruit Knife?
Chapter 61: Do You Still Have a Fruit Knife?
Standing outside the safety staircase, An Ran peers inside the pediatric department. The zombies are just as she imagines: not too many, certainly fewer than in the neonatal department, roughly the same number as in the obstetrics department. They are manageable. No matter how weak she feels, she has already killed zombies on the second floor, so she isn’t afraid.
An Ran thinks it will be easy to solve!
She raises the slightly blunt scissors in her hand and opens the heavy safety door. The door creaks loudly, drawing the attention of several nearby zombies. Quietly, she slips inside and moves along the wall beside the door. One zombie walks past her, and An Ran seizes the opportunity, stabbing it in the forehead with the scissors. The zombie falls, and the sound attracts another nearby zombie.
As she pulls out the scissors to strike again, she discovers that the blade is gone, leaving only two bare rings in her hand!
She looks at the rings in her hand with some surprise, inwardly cursing, “What the hell?!” Just as she sees the approaching zombie lunging at her, An Ran feels a sudden surge of determination. Clumsily, she turns on the spot, brushing past the zombie's legs, and reaches the safety door. She pushes it open and dashes into the safety staircase just as the heavy door slams shut behind her, blocking the zombies from following.
The heavy safety door slams shut behind her with a loud bang, blocking the few zombies behind it. These zombies have once been human; although they eat flesh and drink blood, they don’t seem much stronger than an average person. Plus, they lack intelligence and don’t understand how to use tools. It is just a safety door; they simply try to push through without the intelligence to turn the doorknob.
Holding the ring of the broken scissors, An Ran hurries down to the fifth floor, where she encounters Hu Zhen, who is dragging a zombie corpse at the staircase door.
Seeing her sweat-soaked and running down, Hu Zhen drops the corpse and approaches with concern. "What’s wrong? Are you injured?"
"No!" An Ran shakes her head, raising the ring to show her. "Do you have a fruit knife?"
She didn't think that these medical scissors would be so useless.
“Ah? Haha.” Hu Zhen can’t help but chuckle a couple of times before realizing that in such a survival situation, An Ran is working hard for everyone’s safety. It is quite inappropriate to laugh at that moment. So, Hu Zhen shakes her head, looking at An Ran seriously, saying, “I don’t have one, but in such a large hospital, there must be a few fruit knives around. If not, there will definitely be surgical scissors. I’ll go look for some. You take a break; leave the search for supplies to me.”
"Okay, thank you," An Ran replies, smiling at Hu Zhen.
She tosses the ring aside and heads back to the doctor's office to check on Doll and He Wen. With Hu Zhen's help, the two children are indeed being cared for better.
By the time An Ran reaches the sixth floor, Wawa and He Wen have clean diapers, and their quilts are tucked in snugly. They are sleeping soundly, and after dealing with the zombies, she feels no need to coax them. This is pure bliss.
An Ran, feeling grateful for her peaceful moment, goes to her flower pots to admire her flowers and avocado seedlings. Although she isn’t fully satisfied and lacks any special powers, she finds joy in simply observing and appreciating them.
