Chapter 607: Monsters Appear No Matter the Weather
Liu Shasha couldn’t clearly see what was happening. All she saw were tender green vines spreading wildly, twisting and multiplying.
Within moments, the snow wolf wrapped in them was crushed and reduced to nothing but a mangled trunk.
“Let’s go back!” An Ran grabbed Mint’s hand.
Before the snow wolf’s body completely collapsed, Mint reached out and deftly pulled its crystal core free. Then the two of them turned and ran toward the entrance of the residential complex.
It was the same entrance as the one on the west side of the river—only now, the ground had sunk, and the passage was buried beneath layers of snow. Across the vast white plain, only a few tall buildings on the eastern side were still faintly visible. Everything else had disappeared under the endless snow.
In the distance, wolf howls echoed again.
An Ran stopped and frowned, glancing back over her shoulder. She couldn’t tell exactly where the cries came from, but there were clearly many of them.
No matter how bad the weather became, the apocalypse was still the apocalypse—and on this grand, desolate stage, mutated creatures would always make their entrance.
Holding Doll tightly, An Ran led Little Mint back underground.
Behind them, Zhang Boxun followed while supporting Liu Shasha. Together, they hurried down into the shelter.
Once they returned to the villa, An Ran quickly informed Zhan Lian, Luo Feifan, and the others about the approaching snow wolves.
Zhang Boxun and Liu Shasha immediately left to find Fatty.
Inside the villa, Zhan Lian was standing on a ladder, replacing light fixtures. He planned to install a crystal chandelier and wire it to the wood-fired boiler to illuminate the entire villa.
Upon hearing An Ran’s report, he snorted softly. “These days, monsters show up no matter the weather.” He jumped down from the ladder, lifted Doll from the stool tied around An Ran’s waist, and said calmly, “I’ll go check the situation. You stay home—don’t wander around.”
“Okay,” An Ran nodded. Then she hesitated. “Should I start making some preparations?”
Zhan Lian smiled, reached out, and gently pinched her chin. “Looks like we’ll have to.”
He leaned down and kissed her lips—soft, lingering, and sweet enough to make Zhao Ru, curled up on the sofa, break out in goosebumps.
Outside, the howling of mutant snow wolves drew closer, louder by the second. The sound rolled across the frozen land like thunder, crashing against the walls of Yaoyang Base. Even those living deep within the ice tunnels could hear it.
Panic spread quickly. People rushed out of their shelters one by one. Under the direction of those familiar with the tunnels, they made their way toward Fatty’s villa to find out what was happening. But Fatty had already gone to An Ran’s villa to discuss their next move.
An Ran gave the order to gather everyone around her villa for safety.
At the same time, the wolf howls reached the distant Grand Fortune Hotel, startling the senior officials there.
When Chen Chaofa entered the monitoring room, his expression was dark. Wu Simiao was already seated before the surveillance wall with several surviving team leaders.
“What’s the situation?” Chen Chaofa asked as he unbuttoned his coat and handed it to a soldier standing behind him.
The soldier looked unfamiliar—no one had seen him at the Grand Fortune Hotel before.
That was enough for everyone to guess: Chen Chaofa’s backers had finally appeared.
“We’ve sent a small drone to scout the area,” Wu Simiao said. “The footage should be coming in any moment.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the live feed appeared. A few technicians quickly processed the images and projected them onto the large screen.
