Chapter 54: I Want to Find My Son
Chapter 54: I Want to Find My Son
“But I want to know whether my son is dead or alive!” Hu Zhen exclaims, clutching her wound and pushing Chen Jiao aside. Frustrated with Chen Jiao’s refusal to open the door for Anran, she shouts, “It’s fine if you don’t care about your son; I want to find mine!”
The two argue, successfully drawing the attention of the nearby zombies. Anran seizes the opportunity to dispatch the slow one behind them. Just as she is about to finish off the remaining zombies on the floor, the ward door suddenly swings open. Hu Zhen, who seems to have overpowered Chen Jiao, freezes in fear at the sight of the zombie standing outside.
Before she can scream or react, Anran plunges a pair of scissors into the back of the zombie’s head. A white hand shoves the zombie aside, causing it to crumple to the ground with lifeless eyes, revealing Anran’s blood-soaked face.
"Ah!!!" Chen Jiao rushes over, pushing Hu Zhen aside and onto the floor. She quickly slams the door shut and locks it, yelling from inside, “Anran, you psycho! You killed someone again! Are you going to come in and kill us next? We won't fall for your tricks!”
Outside the door, Anran's expression twists into a fierce scowl. Who can maintain a cheerful demeanor after decapitating all the zombies on the fourth and fifth floors, only to face these two fools?
Turning away, Anran glances at the pile of zombie corpses, offering no explanations. She silently begins picking up diamonds from the ground. Suddenly, she realizes a profound truth: people’s circumstances and perceptions vary greatly, leading to different levels of understanding. She and Chen Jiao do not have the same values.
While she tries to navigate this new, apocalyptic world, Chen Jiao and Hu Zhen remain holed up in their small ward, arguing over trivial matters. No amount of explanation would bridge that gap; it feels utterly pointless.
Inside the ward, Hu Zhen remains silent under Chen Jiao’s scolding and accusations of Anran’s cruelty, only managing to sob softly. Anran gathers the last of the diamonds, picks up the now dull medical scissors, and floats back to the fifth floor to check on Doll and Chen Jiao’s son.
The flowers in the pots still bloom beautifully, but the avocado still shows no signs of change. The natural growth of plants is slow, and Anran realizes she doesn’t need to use her powers to help them thrive; they follow the laws of nature.
However, the petals are adorned with a few dewdrops, and the pink snow mountain and bellflower is leaning towards Doll, as if sensing Anran’s desire protect her.
Anran smiles softly, cradling Doll who has woken up. The child spits out the pacifier but doesn’t cry, instead humming contentedly as Anran feeds her some breast milk. She then finds a brand-new bottle and offers Chen Jiao’s son some milk.
Having collected three boxes of mineral water while killing zombies on the fourth floor, Anran has moved all the supplies to the doctor’s office on the fifth floor for safekeeping.
