Chapter 520: Lure the Monsters
Chapter 520: Lure the Monsters
An Ran tilted her head, quickly sorting through the information in her mind, then said solemnly: "The front section is full of metal-type zombies, mixed with some ordinary ones. There are about a dozen water-type zombies in the rear."
"We need to lure them to a dry place," Zhan Lian replied.
He was sitting on the trunk lid, where he had been since An Ran rushed out earlier. While she was searching for Zhao Ru, he had been rapidly working out a plan in his mind.
The rain poured down relentlessly, making it impossible to light a fire in the open. Metal-type zombies were already hard enough to deal with—but in this weather, water-type zombies were even worse. In the rain, it was as if they had received a buff, becoming far more dangerous than the one Zhao Ru had killed earlier.
Luo Feifan stood beside Zhan Lian, nodded, and pointed toward a narrow path beside the small temple. A canal ran below it.
"Yesterday, when we were surveying the terrain, we found that this road leads straight to the village’s primary school. There’s a large auditorium there that can hold about two hundred people."
"Then we lure them into the auditorium and finish them there," Zhan Lian decided.
The next question was whether the noise from the large group of elderly, weak, sick, disabled, and pregnant women would attract the zombies before they could be led away. Even if the adults managed to stay quiet, the children wouldn’t be able to stop crying and fussing.
"So we need someone making constant noise to keep the zombies focused on us instead of targeting the vulnerable group," Zhan Lian said, scanning the people in the small temple to see who would volunteer.
Zhang Boxun, who had been sitting motionless by the fire, spoke up. "I’ll do it."
In life-or-death situations, he was always the first to step forward.
Zhao Ru tilted her head, glanced at him, and frowned. Then she looked at him calmly and let out a soft sigh.
She knew her own deep grudge against Zhang Boxun. If he were truly malicious, she wouldn’t hesitate to drive him out of the team—or even kill him. But Zhang Boxun always acted in this strange, in-between way—neither good nor bad—making him difficult to judge.
Human nature wasn’t as good as people liked to believe… but perhaps it wasn’t all that bad either.
The plan decided, everyone moved into action.
Luo Feifan went to the house across the street to find Fatty. After hearing the plan, Fatty quickly gathered several earth-type ability users to reinforce the perimeter of the survivors’ shelter.
The doors and windows were sealed tight, with only a few small ventilation holes to prevent suffocation. Then Zhan Lian and Fatty built a metal-and-stone barricade along the road, while An Ran planted a row of mutant vines.
In the cold rain, the vines absorbed water and grew at a rapid, wild pace.
In the distance, the humanoid zombies drew closer. Zhan Lian, An Ran, Luo Feifan, and the others jumped into their vehicles, honking their horns as they sped down the path from the small temple.
Meanwhile, Zhang Boxun stood behind the barricade, holding a large bronze gong and a heavy copper hammer. As the zombies approached, he struck the gong hard.
Dong… dong… dong… dong…
The sound rang out deep and resonant in the rainy night. A huge wave of zombies immediately fixed on Zhang Boxun and charged toward him, while only a small handful broke away to head for the shelter where Fatty was guarding the elderly, the weak, the sick, the disabled, and the pregnant.
