Chapter 521: Not a Long-Term Solution
Chapter 521: Not a Long-Term Solution
Although some zombies weren’t lured away by Zhang Boxun, the road was blocked. Fatty had reinforced their house and stationed numerous soldiers to guard it, so this small number of zombies posed little threat to him and his men.
Seeing that most of the zombies’ aggro had shifted to him, Zhang Boxun took off running, striking the gong as he led the zombies toward the school auditorium.
Bright red lilies bloomed along the muddy road, their layered petals like blood-red lotuses, devouring all the ordinary zombies in pursuit.
It had to be said that while An Ran’s abilities did little damage to metal- and water-type zombies, she single-handedly took on nearly all the ordinary ones—and their numbers far exceeded those of the metal and water types. With her blockade in place, the only zombies Zhang Boxun could lead into the auditorium were the metal- and water-types.
The first to arrive were the fastest of the metal-type zombies.
Inside the empty auditorium, Zhang Boxun struck the gong with full force. The first wave of metal-type zombies rushed in, engulfed in flames, rolling through the blaze before charging deeper inside. Waiting for them were Yun Tao, Liang Ziyu, and Wang Wei, all clad in fireproof and chemical-protective suits.
Also present were Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan—two exceptionally powerful fighters.
A fierce battle between humans and zombies erupted in the auditorium. The heat inside was stifling, but the fight was nothing short of exhilarating.
The good times didn’t last. Soon, the water zombies arrived. Even standing outside the auditorium, they made the ground feel as if it were turning into a river. The muddy, rural surroundings quickly turned into a swamp.
Inside a bulletproof car parked behind the auditorium, An Ran looked out at the large building and said to Zhao Ru, “Didn’t you control water last time? Try handling two water zombies at once.”
Zhao Ru, sitting in the passenger seat, glanced at An Ran, tilted her head, and muttered, “I’ll try, but I can’t guarantee it’ll work. Little Mint, give me the crystal core.”
Little Mint, playing with Doll in the back seat, ignored her. She held a doll and waved it toward the infant in the crib.
With no response, Zhao Ru turned to An Ran.
Little Mint was the main force in obtaining crystal cores, but her temperament had become increasingly erratic—she wouldn’t listen to anyone except An Ran.
An Ran tilted her head from the driver’s seat and said to Little Mint, “Mint, give her the crystal core.”
Mint handed Doll to Hengheng beside her, then turned with a numb expression and passed the small bucket from the trunk to Zhao Ru.
Zhao Ru grabbed a handful of the crystal cores, took a deep breath, and successfully subdued one water zombie inside the auditorium.
The next step was to quickly drain every drop of water from the zombie’s body, leaving only the water crystal core. Timing was critical—if the zombie’s water wasn’t removed fast enough, it could not only generate more on its own but also absorb moisture from rainy weather to rehydrate.
By this time, Zhan Lian and the others had already eliminated all the metal-type zombies, leaving only about a dozen water-type ones. Zhan Lian had sealed them in several iron boxes, but it was clear this wasn’t a long-term solution.
