There are originally several metal-type users among Tang Jianjun’s old troops, but it looks like they’ve gone into hiding.
Luo Feifan stays slightly behind with the rest, but not too far, providing backup for Zhang Boxun and Zhan Lian.
An Ran holds Doll and plays behind Yun Tao, Liang Ziyu, and the other strength-type ability users. As they clear several mutant flowers, her vines extend, and the area outside the residential complex remains relatively safe.
Inside the complex, Little Mint appears with Hengheng in tow, followed by Zhao Ru and a few hesitant survivors. As they walk, they gather supplies from the shops they pass.
From time to time, An Ran looks back at the sound of Fatty jumping around behind her. After playing for a bit, she straightens up, hugs Doll, and gazes toward the distant horizon.
The landscape is blanketed in red flowers, while the dark gray sky above splits open slightly, revealing a streak of red light—like hope or a warning—blending with the eerie red flowers below.
At the front, Zhan Lian wonders if they’ve finally found the enormous mutant flower.
Suddenly, a foul stench fills the air. Doll’s face turns red, and she bursts into tears. An Ran touches her little bottom and turns to Zhao Ru. “I think she pooped. I’ll go change her.”
She walks back to the truck parked at the community entrance.
Due to the lack of manpower, the truck has been temporarily left at the gate, waiting for Yun Tao and Liang Ziyu to drive it once they get tired of clearing the path.
An Ran climbs into the truck, cleans Doll with wet wipes, changes her diaper, and plays with her for a bit in the cramped cargo bed. Then she hops out again.
Just then, several uniformed soldiers carrying heavy backpacks pass by the community gate.
The side profile of one man startles An Ran.
Zhou Xiang?
She freezes, holding Doll.
Zhou Xiang’s men notice her too. Most don’t recognize An Ran, but they do know Zhou Xiang. They pause, then quietly step back two paces.
Both sides hesitate.
Let her go? Definitely not an option.
“Lady An! Lady An!”
Just then, Fatty comes running over, his whole body jiggling with fat, panting hard, clearly wanting to say something.
An Ran tilts her head slightly, and at that moment, Zhou Xiang moves.
“Capture her—she’s a wood-type!”
Although An Ran has a fearsome reputation, Lei Jiang hasn’t explained clearly just how dangerous she is. Zhou Xiang believes the real threat is Zhan Lian. He thinks Lei Jiang backed off simply because he doesn’t want to provoke Zhan Lian—not because of An Ran herself.
They’ve just used Zhang Boxun and Zhan Lian to eliminate the Mutant Flower and are about to slip out the back of the complex. Lei Jiang has already gathered everyone, including Tang Siluo, and is waiting at the back gate. Zhou Xiang never expects to run into An Ran on the way out.
Their packs are stuffed with supplies, and they’ve even taken the supply truck, almost completely emptying the community’s remaining stock.
