Chapter 482: Not Forcing It
Chapter 482: Not Forcing It
Lei Jiang lets out a cold scoff and says to Zhou Xiang, “Her? Forget it.”
Better to avoid trouble when possible. If they take advantage of the fight outside to go kill the Mutant Flower and kidnap An Ran while Zhan Lian is away, they’ll have to face Zhan Lian’s wrath when he returns—and Lei Jiang has no intention of being hunted down.
Besides, whether they can even capture An Ran so easily is still uncertain.
He’s a smart man. Although Zhou Xiang senses something is off, he doesn’t ask further and goes off to gather Lei Jiang’s subordinates, those hidden within the army.
Thanks to Tang Siluo’s connections, Lei Jiang and his remaining men follow her back to Tiesi Village. From there, they flee to Xiangcheng. Tang Jianjun’s troops suffer heavy casualties in Xiangcheng, and Lei Jiang’s people aren’t spared either.
Once they arrive in this residential area, Lei Jiang asks Tang Siluo to arrange for his men to receive military uniforms and be merged into Tang Jianjun’s army.
In addition, Lei Jiang keeps winning people over along the way—so even some of the people Zhang Boxun can technically command are now under his influence.
And that doesn’t even account for Tang Siluo’s own influence.
After Zhou Xiang leaves to recruit men, Lei Jiang hurries back to Tang Siluo’s place. There, he sees Zhang Boxun being shoved out by an angry Tang Siluo.
Hiding in the shadows, Lei Jiang waits until Zhang Boxun leaves in frustration before entering her room.
“Luoluo, are you mad at Zhang Boxun again?”
Tang Siluo, sitting on the couch with a scowl on her face, doesn’t resist when Lei Jiang leans in and embraces her.
“Luoluo”… the nickname brings tears to her eyes. That’s what her father used to call her.
So instead of feeling repulsed by Lei Jiang’s closeness, she feels a growing attachment.
“Alright, Luoluo, don’t cry. I’ve got something to tell you. Hurry up and pack. Luo Feifan told you to take everyone you can and meet him on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway!”
“Really?”
Tears well up again, but Tang Siluo quickly wipes them away and smiles. She tilts her head to look at Lei Jiang, who nods seriously. She jumps up and begins packing at once.
Truthfully, she can’t bear another day in this place. Not because the conditions are harsh, but because this is where she lost the last of her family. She doesn’t want to stay here anymore.
Now that Brother Feifan is leaving, she has no reason to stay a moment longer.
Just then, the front gate flies open. Zhang Boxun blows the whistle to assemble, and soldiers from all over the community come running, quickly forming ranks.
Axe, standing beside him, does a quick headcount and asks Yun Tao curiously, “Why are there only 40?”
Yun Tao shrugs. Axe doesn’t know anything about Tang Jianjun’s former subordinates—how would an outsider understand?
Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan, standing at the back, also find it strange. Tang Jianjun said he left behind at least a hundred soldiers. Even yesterday’s headcount came to around sixty. But now, only forty show up?
So the rest are just cowards afraid of death, unwilling to help eliminate the Mutant Flower?
Fine—no need to force them.
After the count, Zhang Boxun and Zhan Lian lead the group out. Both are metal-type ability users—physically indestructible. No matter how terrifying the Mutant Flower might be, it can’t hurt the two of them.
