Chapter 481: What Should We Do Now
Despite Fatty’s sneaky behavior, An Ran figures that even if they bring those fresh vegetables and potatoes to the old, sick, weak, disabled, and pregnant, no one will question it too much.
After sorting her thoughts, she doesn’t dwell on it. They still have plenty of supplies. A cart has been added to the original truck, and it’s stuffed full of goods—like a tiny freight train.
So she doesn’t need to compete with the vulnerable for two sacks of food.
Just as Liang Ziyu carries the sacks over to where supplies for the survivors are stored, the back gate of the compound opens quietly. Lei Jiang stands there, staring at the tangled vines just outside, silently contemplating his next move.
Behind him stands Zhou Xiang. Seeing that Lei Jiang hasn’t spoken for a while, he steps forward and asks, “Brother, what should we do now?”
The entrance has already been silently overrun by vines. As an earth-type ability-user, Lei Jiang senses that these vines have taken root underground. Though they haven’t breached the compound, they’ve clearly spread around it. He can still vaguely track the terrain—stone, plant growth, and their distributions—but nothing more.
It’s only after noticing that some vines inside the compound don’t harm people that Lei Jiang realizes they’re controlled by An Ran. Those vines have been deliberately spared on Zhang Boxun’s orders.
Lei Jiang has to admit—this An Ran is more formidable than he expected.
“There are only five or six wood and water-type ability-users among the soldiers,” he says at last, tone solemn. Whether he thinks this number is too few or too many, it’s hard to say.
After all, he’s followed Tang Siluo all the way from Tiesi Village, supporting him and watching for the chance to seize those precious wood and water-type ability-users Tang Jianjun once controlled.
Now, those very users have been identified. They’ve been hiding among Tang Jianjun’s troops, but are now being ordered by Zhang Boxun to go die—sent to the Jiahe Supermarket to fight that monster.
Lei Jiang knows the place. He was there when it all started, nearly eaten alive by that grotesque “Mutant Flower.” And now, those people are being sent in again—only this time, they’re unlikely to return.
The wood and water ability-users are few, and they’re being sent to die.
If he doesn’t make a move now, all the time and effort he’s invested in Tang Siluo will go to waste.
Lei Jiang turns to Zhou Xiang. “I’m going to find Tang Siluo. While they’re fighting the Mutant Flower, gather our people. Take Tang Siluo and the wood and water ability-users, and we leave Xiangcheng—head north.”
“What about An Ran?”
Zhou Xiang nods in understanding. According to Zhang Boxun and Zhan Lian’s plan, all combat forces will be dispatched to the supermarket to kill the Mutant Flower. That will leave only the old, weak, sick, disabled, pregnant women, and An Ran behind in the compound.
Wouldn’t this be the perfect chance?
Hasn’t Lei Jiang always wanted to get his hands on An Ran?
