Chapter 480: We Are Even
Chapter 480: We Are Even
Previously, An Ran followed behind with the child, staying at the rear with Zhao Ru and the others. She watches Zhan Lian and the rest battle up front while she plants flowers in the rear.
So after weighing the pros and cons, she agrees to the arrangement.
Now, all the combat forces gather on the stone clearing ahead, while Zhan Lian, Luo Feifan, Zhang Boxun, and the others huddle together discussing the battle plan.
A stone rolls to An Ran’s feet. She tilts her head, holding Doll in her arms. Overhead is a grey sky and a dead tree.
In the corner, Fatty sticks out his head and quietly waves at her. “Come here, come here.”
Holding Doll, An Ran cautiously approaches but stops two meters away. She draws her knife, pointing the tip at him.
“What are you up to now?”
“Want something to eat?” Fatty says, stretching out his hand and pulling out two large sacks, setting them quietly in the corner. He lowers his voice mysteriously. “Here, here. Don’t let the others see. Miss An, we’re even now. Don’t come after me again, and I won’t mess with you either. Deal?”
Then, like a thief, he bolts.
His behavior is bizarre.
An Ran stares in the direction he fled, then approaches the sacks with caution, baby in one arm, knife in the other. She uses the blade tip to lift the bag tied to the sack. Inside—it’s full of green vegetables.
Fresh ones.
She frowns and pokes open the other bag. Potatoes.
What kind of trick is this?
Unable to make sense of it, An Ran calls Liang Ziyu over to move the sacks into the house. They unpack the potatoes one by one. All fresh, freshly dug, perfectly edible.
“Where did these come from?”
Zhao Ru steps out of the room, having just finished treating Wang Wei. She sees An Ran and Liang Ziyu squatting beside a pile of cabbage.
“An Ran said a fat guy gave them to her,” Liang Ziyu answers, looking up.
“A fat guy gave them?”
Zhao Ru repeats the words, walks over, and squats down beside them to examine the vegetables.
“Is that fat guy a wood-type ability-user?”
“No, he’s probably an earth-type.” An Ran shakes her head, remembering all the rocks she’s thrown at him—none land. This guy must be an earth-type ability-user.
Strangely, for someone with such abilities and freedom of movement, Lei Jiang and Zhang Boxun don’t seem to know that there’s an earth-type ability-user like him among the refugees.
Still thinking it over, An Ran gathers the vegetables and puts them back into the sacks. Then she instructs Liang Ziyu, “They’re edible, no problem. Completely normal. Distribute them to the survivors.”
“How should we explain it?”
Liang Ziyu looks uncertain. These vegetables are obviously just harvested. Anyone can tell. Fresh, tender vegetables are nearly impossible to come by at this stage of the apocalypse.
“Don’t explain anything. Just give them out. I think everyone’s used to strange things happening by now.” She claps the dirt off her hands and stands up.
Although she still finds the whole situation strange, she remembers what Zhao Ru once said—that Tang Jianjun commanded a whole host of wood and water-type ability-users. No one knows where he hid them all.
