“Eat something first. I’ll find him for you,” Lei Jiang coaxes her softly, still holding her shoulder. His eyes glint coldly with hidden disdain.
Women. In his mind, they’re all the same—too emotional to accomplish anything.
Even in her grief, the first thing she mentions is Luo Feifan.
Infatuated fool. But Luo Feifan doesn’t care.
Tang Siluo nods and picks up a bag of biscuits. They taste like wax in her mouth.
Seeing her slightly revived, Lei Jiang moves to another sofa, crosses his legs, and says, “Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan want us to send troops to destroy the Mutant Flower. Rumor has it that once the core is destroyed, the other mutant flowers in Xiangcheng will die too. Zhang Boxun agreed.”
As he speaks, he watches her closely, but she shows little reaction—just keeps eating quietly.
When she finishes, she simply says, “I’m done. I want to see Brother Feifan.”
“Get some rest. I’ll go find him.” Lei Jiang rises, pats her head like a child, and walks out.
Of course, he has no intention of finding Luo Feifan.
In fact, he’s been avoiding him. He thinks that with Tang Jianjun dead, Tang Siluo will inherit the military—and Lei Jiang can step in as her “helper,” taking control behind the scenes.
He’s already absorbed over 100 combat-capable soldiers from Tang Jianjun’s forces.
But with Zhang Boxun and Axe back—both military-born—they have enough clout to reclaim command. Lei Jiang’s grasp on power weakens. He can only operate in the shadows now, manipulating Tang Siluo, handling minor tasks, and staying hidden from An Ran and Zhan Lian.
Still, the community is huge, and as an earth-type ability-user, Lei Jiang has plenty of places to hide.
He’s not about to give up.
The more Tang Siluo wallows in grief, the easier she is to control. As long as she stays emotionally broken, Lei Jiang can hold on to everything Tang Jianjun left her.
Outside of Lei Jiang, everyone else has reached an agreement: the mutant Mutant Flower must be destroyed.
Zhan Lian will lead the assault. Zhao Ru, An Ran, Doll, Little Mint, and Hengheng will support from behind. The old, weak, women and children will remain in the community.
Given the altered geology and An Ran’s plant barricades, the community is the safest option for them.
Still, Lei Jiang remains a hidden threat. An Ran and the others wouldn’t stay here if they had another choice. But in the apocalypse, no one wants the burden of the vulnerable.
As long as they don’t become a liability, they’ll be left alone.
An Ran originally had reservations about staying behind. She wants to follow Zhan Lian, but the Jiahe Supermarket is only a few blocks away. The advance toward the mutant flower is just a continuation of the last battle.
There isn’t much difference.
