Chapter 45: I’d Rather Go Out and Kill Zombies
After preparing everything, Anran puts on her backpack, holds the baby carrier in her left hand, and the fruit basket in her right. She begins to cautiously explore the internal passage. Eventually, she finds the door leading to the emergency staircase on the fourth floor and makes her way to the security door there.
At this moment, Doll, who has been calm until now, starts crying in the baby carrier. It has barely been 20 minutes, but she is already in tears. Anran's heart skips a beat. She quickly puts the baby carrier and fruit basket on the ground, takes off the heavy backpack, and sits on the cold stairs, pulling Doll out of the carrier to soothe her.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the fourth-floor security door, zombies, having heard Doll’s cries, begin to gather towards the safety passage. Anran grows more anxious as she cradles Doll, gently patting and soothing her, but the little one just won’t calm down.
With no other choice, Anran carries Doll in one arm, with the fruit basket hanging from her fingers, and uses the other hand to grab the backpack, taking Chen Jiao’s son back up to the fifth-floor hallway.
Once back on the fifth floor, Doll stops crying, but now Chen Jiao’s son begins to wail. Anran’s head pounds with frustration. Caring for two babies in such a harsh environment—it's honestly driving her to the point where she would rather go out and kill zombies!
Seriously!!!
Since the condition of the children cannot be estimated, it is impossible for Anran to sneak to the fourth floor and take the two babies directly to Hu Zhen. She makes up her mind that the only way now is to kill them slowly.
Given the unpredictable nature of the babies, sneaking to the fourth floor to reach Hu Zhen is no longer an option. Anran resolves to methodically eliminate the zombies first. If she can clear the fourth and fifth floors, the risk of the children crying and attracting more zombies decreases. She knows that she can't risk the zombies from the fifth floor sneaking into the internal passage.
The challenge is that her fruit knife is broken, the tweezers are cumbersome, and she hasn’t yet mastered the "Little Li Flying Needle" technique.
So, all she has now is a pair of medical scissors and an utterly worn-out fruit knife.
The scissors are slightly better than the tweezers. Unlike household scissors, the hospital’s medical scissors have longer blades. When she stabs them into a zombie’s head, she can easily pull them out by hooking her fingers through the rings.
But the scissors don’t feel as good in her hand as the fruit knife does!
Still, Anran thinks she can practice using the scissors for more precise zombie kills. She has gained some insight: although a zombie's skull might be thinner and more fragile than a human's, it would be easier to stab through the chin directly into the brain or through the temple.
Actually, the easiest way to pierce the brain would be through the eyes, but to do that, she’d have to stab a zombie head-on. Anran prefers to attack zombies from behind or from the side so that their hands can’t reach her, keeping her safer.
Though the scissors’ blade is small, zombie brains are different from human ones. Their insides seem like a thick, viscous liquid. As long as the scissors puncture the zombie’s brain and make a cut, the contents will flow out from the wound.
