Chapter 32: Breastfeeding
Chapter 32: Breastfeeding
Anran, excited and somewhat exhilarated after finding Doll, hasn’t thought about checking if there is formula in the blue light room. The room is so dark that it is impossible to spot the bottles placed on the wall without a thorough search. In her panic, all she can think about is how hungry Doll seems, so she immediately begins breastfeeding.
Now, as she calms down, Anran feels some regret. She is so excited earlier that she forgets about the bite marks on her body. She begins to worry about whether she might have contracted rabies or tetanus from the zombie bite. What if Doll drinks her milk and contracts a virus as well?
But now that she has already fedher, there’s nothing she can do about it. She has always been somewhat thoughtless, rarely considering things thoroughly. She also wasn’t careful or meticulous in her thinking; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been led into marriage by her ex-husband after only meeting him for the second time.
If she had thought more carefully about the pros and cons of a military marriage at that time, she would never have married a soldier, become a military wife, or given birth to Doll.
However, thinking about it now, Anran quickly feels at ease. She sees that Doll seems to be doing well, munching away with its little mouth. Although she is a bit restless, she still falls asleep in her arms. If she were to die from some virus, could a newborn baby who has just been born less than 24 hours ago survive without her milk? If she’s not infected, that’s the best scenario. If she is infected and Doll gets infected too, at least it’s better than letting the little one starve to death alone in the dark blue light room without anyone to feed it.
If her immune system is strong enough to fight off the virus, but Doll, with its weaker immune system, can’t withstand the virus, then Anran would accept that she and Doll would die together. After all, the world has become so hopeless that living without Doll would have no meaning for her.
However, this last possibility should be relatively small. Isn’t it said that newborns carry antibodies from their mothers? This means that Doll’s antibodies are the same as Anran’s. Since Anran hasn’t turned into a zombie, Doll naturally hasn’t either, which should be related to the antibodies in their bodies.
Her antibodies would remain in Doll’s body for six months and only disappear after that. Therefore, many parenting blogs say that babies under six months rarely get sick, while those over six months are more prone to colds and pneumonia once the maternal antibodies disappear.
Of course, this is not absolute. There are also many examples of babies who get sick frequently even before six months.
But isn’t breastfeeding supposed to be good? The mother’s body automatically filters out harmful substances and turns the blood into nourishing milk for the baby. Anran, influenced by the hospital’s promotion, instinctively breastfeeds Doll, only finding the bottles afterward. So now it’s too late to regret. Everything is up to fate.
Having come to terms with it, Anran soon puts aside the issue of breastfeeding. Since she has just started lactating and has very little milk, and Doll is already starving, her breasts have long been emptied by Doll, so she can’t feed Chen Jiao’s son.
