Chapter 30: Like Divine Assistance
Chapter 30: Like Divine Assistance
So, what about her daughter? Anran feels a dull pain in her heart as she withdraws her hand from the blue light incubator and looks around the large blue light room. Aside from the remaining incubator, no other children are crying. There are only two children who haven’t turned into monsters; the rest are either eaten or have silently developed fangs.
With a loud crash, the remaining blue light incubator is overturned by the two zombies.
The baby inside, along with the incubator, falls to the ground. The cries grow louder, and the lid of the incubator is smashed open. One of the zombies reaches inside for the baby.
Anran turns her head and looks at the baby's face. Even though it is covered, the blue light makes the baby’s face seem strangely familiar. How could it look so much like Zhan Lian?
Every mother can recognize her child from even the smallest features, even if they have only seen each other briefly. Although a newborn's face is often wrinkled and similar to others, a mother’s innate ability to recognize her own flesh and blood is profound.
She is startled and overjoyed, screams, and rushes forward with the knife. She tackles the zombie, knocking it to the ground and stabbing it.
Before she can pull her fruit knife out of the zombie's head, another zombie bites into her neck from behind. Anran desperately twists her body, falling backward onto the zombie, and in a frenzy, she fights with all her strength, cutting off the arm of the zombie that is holding her. Finally, she manages to break free.
She doesn't care about the bite marks on her neck—since she already has many wounds—she turns around and stabs the dismembered zombie until it is dead.
Anyone who touches her daughter will die, die!!!
In the shattered blue light incubator, a baby in just a diaper is still crying. Anran drops her knife and reaches to pick up the baby. She wipes the dirty blood on her hands onto her clothes and then carefully pulls the baby from the incubator.
She looks at the bracelet on the baby’s wrist, which reads "Anran." It is her daughter!
It really is!
Thank God, thank heavens, thank Avalokiteshvara, thank Jesus, thank Mao Zedong! Anran cries and laughs, thanking everyone she can think of, ancient and modern. In her disheveled state, she kisses her daughter’s little face. The baby’s eyes are still covered with a black cloth, and her little head tilts slightly. The baby weakly whines, as if her voice has gone hoarse, instinctively nudging toward Anran’s chest.
“Hungry, right? You’re hungry,” Anran says, wiping away her tears and speaking gently to her daughter.
Now, she no longer feels any pain, despite the recent bite on her neck. At this moment, Anran feels incredibly well, better than ever. Finding her daughter feels like a transformation, and she is brimming with energy, as if she has received divine assistance. Her clarity of mind makes her excited and exhilarated!
