Chapter 229: Mutated
Chapter 229: Mutated
Anran hurriedly tears off the diaper from Doll’s bottom. Doll has just peed a lot, so Anran places the warm, fresh diaper on the olfactory zombie’s head.
Yun Tao restrains the olfactory zombie’s hands, feet, and head. As soon as Anran secures the Velcro on the diaper, Yun Tao throws the diaper-wearing olfactory zombie down from the second floor.
The olfactory zombie does not die from the fall. It lands among the other zombies and immediately begins wailing. The surrounding zombies crowd around it, even those that were originally heading up the escalator now turn back down, abandoning their climb.
However, the sheer number of zombies is too great, and there is more than one olfactory zombie among them. Diverting the attention of so many zombies requires more urine-soaked diapers, and Anran also needs to prepare flowers to clear a path.
The group divides into three tasks. Yun Tao takes Hengheng to urinate on more diapers, while Little Mint continues collecting supplies.
Anran returns to the mall, places Doll in a stroller, and heads to the first floor. Her original plan is to pluck a lily on the spot and bring it to Gate No. 3 to cultivate a field of flowers. But the moment she touches the petal of a lily on the ground, the flower trembles violently and falls to the side as if frightened.
"I’m not going to kill you. Come here," Anran says with a smile.
The lily continues to shiver and refuses to move. Seeing this, Anran waves her hand again, but the flower remains where it is. She doesn’t force it and simply moves to pick another one. However, the second lily’s reaction is even more dramatic—it collapses onto the ground, refusing to stand up.
"Fine. If you don’t want to come with me, then forget it. Once I leave, you’ll just be dead plants lying here anyway," she mutters, annoyed at the cowardice of these lilies.
Just as she is about to forcibly take one, a single lily stands tall in the middle of the fallen flowers. Unlike the others, this one has an enormous bloom. It stands out prominently in the sea of white flowers, its petals tipped in pure white, with scarlet stamens. The inner petals near the stamens are tinged red and black, shriveled and covered in sharp thorns.
It has mutated.
That is Anran’s first thought as her expression darkens and her gaze locks onto the strange flower. But no, this is no ordinary lily. It has two layers of petals, and its roots lack the softness of a normal lily. As Anran observes it, the flower secretes a strange liquid, and the thorns within it tremble as if taunting her.
Anran can tell that she has no control over this mutated flower. The difference between it and the lilies is like the difference between humans and zombies. If she can't control it, then this flower will either eat the zombies—or her.
The most unsettling part is the feeling it gives her. Unlike the lilies, which radiate a sense of kindness, this ability user flower exudes madness, cruelty, and a murderous aura.
It wants to eat her.
Realizing this, a sudden killing intent rises in Anran’s heart. But before she can act, the ability user flower moves first. With a swift bend of its stem, it vanishes among the lilies and disappears in an instant.
Anran takes a step back as countless tiny voices echo in her mind.
"Ouch, you knocked me down."
"It hurts.
"Run."
"It's coming."
