Chapter 147: Reason
Chapter 147: Reason
Anran plans her day carefully, figuring out what to do first and what to do next in this situation. After all, as Yun Tao continues killing zombies, the bodies of the first ones to die will eventually be buried under the newer ones.
If she waits until tonight to take the crystal cores, she’ll have to move the upper-layer zombies and flip over those at the bottom—wasting precious time.
Tomorrow morning, if Yun Tao still wants her to go to the security room, she doesn’t want to be late!
Sometimes, it’s not even what Yun Tao says that irritates her—it’s the way he says it. But after calming down and thinking about it, she realizes his words make sense.
When facing zombies, could she negotiate with them and ask for time to feed them before dealing the final blow? She had been late—so what? Complaining won’t change anything. The solution is simple: if she doesn’t want to be late, she needs to prepare in advance. Sleep three minutes less, be a little less dazed, walk faster with Doll, and get to the security room a few minutes earlier.
Would Yun Tao still scold her then?
So, in the future, when facing people or situations that make things difficult for her, Anran decides she will complain less about others’ unreasonableness and focus more on preparing herself. If she becomes stronger and more capable, her baby will be safer and better protected.
While gathering crystal cores from the zombies, Anran has this epiphany. Of course, she also kills some zombies along the way.
Her movements grow quicker and more efficient. She’s no longer satisfied with just sneak attacks. Now, during combat, she also uses her feet. When facing two zombies at once, she kicks the closest one away, deals with the other, and then quickly turns back to finish off the one she kicked.
After all this time, Anran is no longer content with just picking off weaker zombies. Occasionally, she even steals kills from the zombies near Yun Tao. Though he doesn’t say anything, he has his fun with her. If Anran wants to snatch zombies, he releases a few more, surrounding her, knowing she can’t resist and will have to retreat. Anran then returns to her "fishing" and continues gathering crystal cores, undeterred.
Perhaps because Doll vomited that morning, Anran’s milk supply has increased. Doll isn’t as hungry as usual. In fact, she sleeps peacefully in the stroller until 11 o’clock, only waking up and crying when she needs a diaper change.
Anran tends to Doll, pushing the stroller upstairs to change the diaper, lifting her shirt to nurse, and swapping out her wet milk pad. Once Doll is fed and content, she pushes the stroller back downstairs.
By noon, the sun is high and growing stronger. Anran stands under the rain shelter in front of the corridor, squinting at the sky. It feels too bright. She gave birth on October 11th, and it’s already mid-December. In a typical year, Xiangcheng should be well into winter by now. So why does it feel like summer?
Feeling hot, Anran rolls up her sleeves to cool off. That’s when she notices the blue veins covering her wrists—still encased in gloves—stretching up to her elbows. She wonders if they’re spreading elsewhere on her body.
She still feels full, but the sensation has lessened after nursing Doll and continuing her zombie hunt. Despite her efforts, the change isn’t as noticeable as she expected.
