Chapter 144: I've Gained Weight
Chapter 144: I've Gained Weight
Before giving birth, Anran prepares a small amount of postpartum supplies at home. The maternity bag she brings to the hospital is long used up, but she still has some sanitary napkins and milk pads left.
However, because the hospital environment is so dangerous, Anran doesn’t eat or rest properly. Her breast milk supply is low, barely meeting Doll’s needs. Even then, Doll has to feed every hour or two due to hunger. Anran wonders if she will ever need those milk pads again in her life.
But who would have expected what happened last night?
Pushing the stroller, Anran complains to herself as she walks to the entrance. Yun Tao asks her to go to the security room early this morning. Now it’s already 8 o’clock, and she has to hurry.
As she passes the living room, she suddenly stops. Her gaze falls on the black leather sofa, where a line of white lime powder is scattered. She walks over and touches the lime on the back of the sofa. When she looks at her palm, it is covered in some white lime foam that hasn’t been rubbed off.
Beneath the lime powder, her hand is covered in dense blue veins, reminiscent of old tree bark. It looks slightly swollen, almost unnatural. The flesh on her body feels tighter than usual, though it isn’t exaggerated—just a bit uncomfortable in her clothes.
What is this? When did my body energy become so abundant? Anran finally begins to wonder.
She follows the trail of lime and notices a plastic bag next to the sofa with some scattered crystal cores on it.
The line of lime leads directly to the bag.
She can’t remember how she fell asleep last night. Her last memory is of playing with the crystal cores in the plastic bag. What happened?
Anran moves around to the front of the sofa. With her swollen, bear-paw-like hands, she lifts the plastic bag containing the crystal cores. Upon closer inspection, she notices traces of lime powder inside. The crystal cores that had resembled diamonds from the hospital seem to be missing.
The crystal cores from the zombies she killed in the community over the past two days—those shiny ones—haven’t been touched much.
Anran stretches out her veined hand and takes a handful of the crystal cores from the bag. For some reason, a wave of nausea washes over her—the kind that comes from overeating. Her stomach churns, as if it has reached its limit.
Quickly, Anran puts the crystal cores back into the bag, ties it shut, and places it in her backpack. She then heads to the master bedroom, finds a pair of plastic gloves she usually uses for cleaning, puts them on, and pushes the stroller outside.
Her terrifying hands will surely scare anyone who sees them.
When she hurries to the square in front of the security room, Yun Tao is already waiting impatiently.
Anran opens her mouth to explain that Doll was a little noisy when she left, but Yun Tao cuts her off with a harsh tone.
"Nine to five? Do you think this is a regular job? In the apocalypse, do you also tell the zombies you need to feed them before killing them? Look at how fat you are. You really are living too comfortably in An Yi."
Yun Tao is furious. Anran’s lateness already irritates him, but her swollen face makes it worse.
Is this a Sichuan Opera transformation? In just one night, Anran has gained so much weight!
