Chapter 135: All the Diapers in the World
Anran first wanders around the shops near the community gate. Before the end of the world, this area was bustling with various stores—English training institutions, early childhood education centers, gyms, yoga studios, and more.
There are several supermarkets, but they have likely been cleared out by Yun Tao’s group. There are also a few maternal and child stores, but Yun Tao has just sent her a large truck filled with supplies. For a child like Doll, no matter how many diapers there are, they won’t be used up anytime soon.
Anran is indeed a very kind person. She thinks that maybe the items in these maternal and child stores could be left for other survivors. She isn’t greedy and doesn’t want to take all the diapers in the world for herself. She only thinks that a supply of diapers for the next month or two will be enough for Doll.
So, the plan to find more diapers becomes unnecessary. However, Anran still feels the need to take something back, thinking she can’t come out empty-handed. Her eyes fall on a car parked on the side of the road.
Since there aren’t many people in this area, most of the owners who bought houses here also purchased parking spaces in the community. Thus, the cars parked along the roadside are mostly owned by the customers of nearby shops.
Anran walks a few steps, scanning the luxury cars along the road. She begins thinking about how to break into these cars to scavenge for food and supplies.
She stops beside a white BMW 5X, taps on the window with her fingers, and considers the hardness of the glass. After thinking for a moment, she decides she will need a tool to break the window.
If she tries to pick up a stone from the roadside, the noise will be too loud, possibly scaring Doll and attracting zombies with their increasingly sensitive hearing from down the street.
Then, Anran notices a bus parked across the road and smiles. There is a window breaker on every bus—an essential tool.
Anran quickly turns around, gets on the bus with Doll in her arms, and grabs the window breaker hanging on the side of the bus window. As she does, she hears the sound of "ho ho" coming from zombies far away.
Anran, who is on the bus, looks out the window and sees a strange sight. She spots Xiao Mei, wearing a black windbreaker, riding a bicycle down the street. Behind her, a group of zombies follows, calling out to others to join them.
"Crazy!" Anran mutters to herself, watching Xiao Mei ride leisurely while being trailed by the zombies.
Panicking, Anran quickly runs down from the bus, clutching the window breaker in one hand and Doll in the sling in the other. She rushes back toward the community.
Once inside the community, she makes her way to the security room. When she arrives, out of breath, she sees Yun Tao teaching Hengheng how to write at the table, while Liu Yuan organizes supplies in the office.
"What’s wrong?" Liu Yuan, holding snacks in her hand, looks at Anran with a puzzled expression. "What happened?"
Yun Tao, who has been helping Hengheng, also looks up and frowns at Anran.
"There are too many zombies coming," Anran says, holding Doll and trying to calm her racing heart. She has run so fast just now that Doll, wrapped in the sling, has shifted uncomfortably, its little head moving anxiously.
