Chapter 134: She Doesn't Want to Be Like This
What state of mind is Anran in right now? She doesn't even know herself. In the end times, a woman like her could have a man like Yun Tao, who promises to protect her and keep her from harm. Anran should be like Liu Yuan, who understands the situation and smiles sweetly at Yun Tao.
But Anran doesn’t know why she can’t just accept the situation. Is she unwilling? Or is it because of her worries? After all, Yun Tao has no real connection to them. Isn’t Chen Jiao’s example enough of a warning?
At the critical moment, Chen Jiao even abandons her own son to draw zombies away. How can Anran trust Yun Tao with the future of herself and her baby after seeing that?
Moreover, like Liu Yuan, trying to please Yun Tao always makes Anran feel like she’s sharing her life with another woman’s husband. She doesn’t want that.
So, for the sake of her independence, Anran knows she has to rely on herself.
Taking a deep breath, Anran gets into the driver’s seat of the pickup truck, baby in her arms. She unties Doll from the sling and places the little one on the passenger seat. The keys have been left in the truck by Yun Tao, so she starts the engine, carefully drives the truck into the basement, and parks it next to her designated spot.
She then goes to the security room square, drives Zhan Lian’s car into the basement, and parks it in her family’s parking spot.
The pickup truck is full of baby supplies, and Doll won’t need all of it right away. She plans to move some of the supplies into her ex-husband’s car and then take the rest home.
the baby carrier still sits in her ex-husband’s car. It seems that Wang Xin and his group haven’t bothered to remove it, probably because it’s too much trouble. They’ve left it there, but all the food supplies have been taken—Wang Xin and his friends have cleaned the car out.
When Anran starts the pickup, she notices the fuel gauge is nearly empty. She won’t be able to drive far without refueling. The truck is a gas guzzler, not ideal for city driving. It consumes more fuel at slower speeds, which explains why Yun Tao has likely abandoned it. He can handle the zombies outside on his own now, and taking a fuel-hungry bulletproof car out wouldn’t have been necessary for him.
By the time Anran finishes organizing Doll supplies, it’s almost noon. She sits in the driver’s seat, snacking on a pack of biscuits that Yun Tao has likely given to Hengheng. Hengheng has opened the bag but left the whole pack behind in the car.
After finishing the biscuits, Anran places the empty pack on the passenger seat. She feeds Doll, then wraps the little one in the sling and places it on her chest. She leaves the basement, stands in the sunlight at the community gate, and takes a deep breath. With determination, she opens the gate and walks outside.
After being back in the community for over a week, this is the first time Anran ventures out. She feels an overwhelming sense of nervousness, afraid that zombies might suddenly appear and surround her and Doll. The thought of a potential tragedy weighs on her.
But her fears are unfounded. Since Yun Tao has just come back from outside and has taken Liu Yuan and Hengheng for a walk, it means there are no zombies outside. Even if there are, Yun Tao has dealt with them already. Now, Anran can step outside with more confidence.
