Chapter 130: A Knife of Self-Harm
Chapter 130: A Knife of Self-Harm
“Anran, why are you standing here?”
Liu Yuan holds Hengheng’s hand, both of them dressed in clean clothes.
Hengheng looks a little upset, but when he sees Anran, he politely greets her, “Auntie.”
“Oh, Xiao Mei came to see me earlier and warned me to leave quickly. I’m not sure what she’s planning,” Anran replies, frowning. She wants to talk to Liu Yuan, feeling that Xiao Mei’s behavior is strange. Noticing that Liu Yuan is holding a notebook and pen, she asks, “Sister Yuan, where are you going?”
“Yun Tao asked me to register the supplies in the security room,” Liu Yuan says casually, holding Hengheng’s hand and smiling. “Xiao Mei’s mood seems a little off. I’ll talk to her later. Don’t worry about it. Just take care of Doll. If you don’t sit properly during the confinement period, it could affect your health in the long run. By the way, I forgot to ask you yesterday—did you get hurt? Are you okay?”
Anran pauses for a moment, then remembers being thrown by Yun Tao. It had hurt at the time, but it wasn’t serious. She shakes her head and replies, “It’s fine. It looked worse than it actually was. There’s no real problem.”
“I’m still sore,” Liu Yuan complains, twisting her waist. “But I think I’m recovering much faster than I would have before the apocalypse. Before, if I had been kicked out like that, I would’ve been bedridden for ten days to half a month. Now, I could walk right away, and I feel a lot better this morning. Do you think it’s because my strength has increased?”
“It should be,” Anran says, looking Liu Yuan up and down. She realizes that while the apocalypse has turned many people into zombies, it has also awakened strange powers in some. People with these abilities recover much faster than ordinary people. Anran wonders if the nature of their superpowers affects their physical qualities.
Anran had been thrown to the ground harder than Liu Yuan. Yun Tao had thrown her roughly, while Liu Yuan was merely kicked into the greenery. She remembers crawling toward Doll, unable to even stand, but then, a short while later, running back to the car with Doll in her arms. Could it be that her recovery speed is faster than Liu Yuan’s? Or is it because her ability to promote plant growth also helps repair her own body?
The growth of plants is a process filled with vitality. If she can make plants and flowers thrive, why can’t she repair her body as well?
Suddenly, Anran has a realization. She might have awakened a power even more remarkable than enhanced strength.
After chatting a bit more with Liu Yuan, the elevator arrives. Anran, lost in thought about her newfound ability, completely forgets about Xiao Mei’s visit. As Liu Yuan and Hengheng leave for the security room, Anran returns to her apartment.
She sits on the sofa, pulls out the war-forged saber from her waist, and, after hesitating for a moment, musters the courage to cut her finger with the sharp blade.
Bright red blood shimmers under the sunlight streaming in through the French window, occasionally tinged with a hint of green.
But that isn’t what catches her attention. What matters is that the cut is so deep, the bone is visible. The pain is unbearable, shooting through Anran’s body like a jolt of electricity.
