Chapter 115: Shameful
Chapter 115: Shameful
The security room and the property management office are actually located in the same building, situated between the first and second phases of the community. A large square in front of the property management office has a teahouse with a romantic atmosphere. The wife of the security captain works as a waitress there.
Interestingly, Yun Tao’s family doesn’t own a house in the community but instead lives in the staff dormitory above the security room, provided by the property management.
Neither Anran nor Liu Yuan has ever been inside, so they don’t know the exact layout. However, whenever they pay the property management fees, they pass by the security room. Occasionally, they stop and look up to see security guards’ clothes drying in the sun, which has been a source of complaints from the residents.
Many owners, including Xiaomei, feel the clothes are an eyesore and detract from the overall appearance of the community.
Xiaomei is particularly vocal about the issues. Anran hasn’t had a great impression of her before. Xiaomei often complains about small details around the community, such as poor hygiene or security guards playing games during work hours. She is always one of the first to stir up trouble in the owners’ group.
Liu Yuan is second only to Xiaomei when it comes to complaints, and Wang Xin hates Liu Yuan because she is one of the people who most often criticizes him.
Although Anran and Liu Yuan have lived across from each other for a long time, they haven’t interacted much. But when Anran becomes pregnant, Liu Yuan becomes more attentive, knocking on her door, inviting her out for walks, offering pregnancy advice, and sharing her own parenting experiences. Over time, the two become closer.
As they approach the security room, Anran walks ahead, with Liu Yuan following behind. They cross a green flowerbed and walk along a path toward the lit-up security room. Liu Yuan whispers to Anran:
“Every morning, the survivors gather at the security room door to get food. They can only take food once a day, and I’ve seen them carry food out through the main door of the security room without going upstairs.”
The first floor of the security room is divided into three sections: a monitoring room, an office, and a lounge area that is spacious and filled with batons and walkie-talkies.
Anran nods as she walks ahead, her hand gripping the handle of the knife at her waist. She leads the way, crouching slightly as she approaches the security room. Liu Yuan, following behind, mirrors her movements and grips the kitchen knife in her hand. The two of them slowly crouch down near the window of the security lounge.
Inside, the lights are on, and Anran can see Ren Xian tossing Xiaomei around on the bed. The metal frame of the bed scrapes loudly against the floor, but Xiaomei, naked, doesn’t react, allowing herself to be manhandled.
Anran, crouching by the window, glances inside, then signals to Liu Yuan. They quietly move forward along the wall, reaching the front door. As they peek around the corner, they see piles of food stacked high in the office.
There is so much food that it almost forms a small mountain. Some of the packaging has been torn open, and trash is scattered everywhere. There are boxes of biscuits with only a few pieces eaten, discarded haphazardly on the floor. The security guards have a lot of food, but they don’t value it at all. Wasting food in such a way is truly shameful.
