Chapter 116: Superpowers
Chapter 116: Superpowers
Anran turns around, exchanging an angry glance with Liu Yuan. Then, she squats down, places her hands on the ground, and scoops up an open box of Oreos from the doorstep, handing it to Liu Yuan.
Liu Yuan, who has been following behind, immediately brightens. She moves forward slightly and gently picks up a large bag of chocolate biscuits from the ground, shaking her head at Anran to indicate she can’t carry it.
Liu Yuan only has two hands: one is holding a kitchen knife, and the other is clutching two boxes of biscuits. It is already quite a struggle, but they still have to remain silent so as not to alert the people inside.
The person inside, Ren Xian, isn’t too dangerous, but the main threat is Yun Tao. Ren Xian is easy to deal with, but Yun Tao has trained and is far more capable. She can’t afford to take him on directly.
Anran nods and places a bag of potato chips into Liu Yuan’s hands, signaling that Liu Yuan should hold onto it. She grabs a few more bags of food near the door and subtly motions with her chin that it’s time to go.
They can’t be greedy. Today is just for scouting, and there’s no need to attract Yun Tao over for a few bags of food.
As for Xiaomei, who is being tortured in the security room, neither Anran nor Liu Yuan thinks about rescuing her. Xiaomei hasn’t even tried to save herself. She has been sent away by her husband without resistance, and Anran and Liu Yuan can’t even protect themselves. Why should they risk their lives for her?
Escaping the misery always comes from one’s own efforts.
The two women, both mothers, move like thieves, retracing their steps. They haven’t seen where Yun Tao went and assume he is probably sleeping at home.
When they are far enough from the security room, they both sigh in relief, smile at each other, and then run for the building where they live, clutching their food.
For Liu Yuan and her son, who have been hungry for so long, the few bags of biscuits they have gathered feel like a great haul. Liu Yuan is in an exceptionally good mood.
When they reach the building where they live, Anran tosses the food into Liu Yuan’s arms, then runs to the green space to retrieve the potted "Pink Snow Mountain" she has left earlier and decides to take it back home.
“You still have the mood to grow flowers at this time?” Liu Yuan asks, holding a pile of food and looking at Anran with some confusion as they enter the elevator together.
Anran smiles, hugging the pink snow mountain pot in her arms. After a moment of thought, she suddenly asks, “Sister Yuan, do you think that since there are zombies in this world, the survivors might have superpowers?”
“Superpowers?” Liu Yuan tilts her head. “Well, I think my strength has increased a lot. What do you think?”
“I agree, your strength is really extraordinary,” Anran replies.
Compared to Liu Yuan, Anran still feels the pot of pink snow mountain is a bit heavy. Though she too feels her own strength has increased, it still isn’t comparable to Liu Yuan’s. Liu Yuan can kill a big man in seconds, but Anran? Can she do that? She feels a little embarrassed to even mention her power, which seems trivial—only able to make flowers bloom.
In a survival crisis, what use is it to create flowers for zombies to admire, or to turn into a flower for men to look at?
Anran can’t help but envy Liu Yuan’s immense strength.
Reader's Note: Why was the elevator still working during a power outage?
Author's Note: As explained earlier, the community has two separate power systems. The solar power storage system runs the property’s utilities, including the elevator, lighting, and security monitoring. The residential power system powers the owners' homes, but those have no electricity at the moment.
