Nothing Can't Roll
“Did everyone have a blast today? What a legendary match, and Starforce took the win in the end. Best day ever, for real.”
“Of course, I got to meet viewers, and Starforce won, so gotta smile. Right?”
Yeah, it was the best. First time trying a street broadcast, had some trial and error, but everyone helped out so it went off without a hitch. And my old team Starforce won—couldn't ask for more.
“Yeah, it was great. So what's next? Sightseeing, food, then head home? Yeah, time to call it.”
Right. Nothing left to do anyway. I'd been to live matches before, even without the stream, and I'd soaked up plenty of the fun already.
Time to shut down the stream, grab food, and head home… That's when I spotted someone familiar.
“Huh?”
“Nah, thought I saw someone I know… Oh, yep. That's Yuseung!”
“Yep, Jesus. Looks like he came to watch live too.”
Yuseung was wandering around, glancing about—probably hunting for the vending machine. He spotted it and headed straight over.
“Not super close, but I've run into him a few times thanks to Ji-cheol. Should I go say hi? Maybe snag an interview?”
“Player bashing gets you banned. Good day like today, no need for that, folks.”
Some people just look for trouble every chance they get. Anyway, I headed to the vending machine where Yuseung was. At that point, I had no clue this would blow up.
“Yuseung? That you?”
“Who… Oh, Chang-sik hyung?”
“Yo, good to see you. You here for the live match too?”
“Uh, yeah…”
Yuseung didn't look thrilled.
“Hey, you streaming right now by any chance?”
Oh shit, did I screw up?
“Uh, yeah. Problem if you show up on stream?”
“Nah, not that bad.”
But his face was kinda stiff. Come to think of it, basic courtesy is to ask permission before approaching someone mid-stream. I just hit record without thinking.
“Whoa, hold up. Lemme kill the camera and audio real quick.”
“No, it's fine. Already caught on cam.”
“Still… Sorry. First street stream, wasn't thinking.”
“Happens.”
Damn, felt bad. No idea why, but he clearly didn't wanna be on camera.
“Look, I won't upload VODs or anything. Probably no big deal.”
“It's cool. Sorry I couldn't play along on stream—my group's waiting.”
“Alright, I'll be more careful next time.”
“I said it's fine.”
Yuseung left, and I turned the camera and audio back on. Chat was already exploding, but nothing I could really say—it was on me.
“See? Dudes yelling to go say hi, now flipping the script. Yeah, my bad. Gotta watch every little thing—shoving a camera in someone's face when they don't wanna be on stream sucks.”
“Sorry. I'll be careful next time.”
Would've been nice if that ended it… But nope.
…Sorry, Yuseung. So that's what it was.
Then dude in same clothes ID'd as Jesus on Chang-sik's stream lololol
But that girl… stupid pretty. Doesn't make sense. Could debut in a girl group as center tomorrow no cap. How can you not hate on Jesus for this
Pay 5x taxes bitch
“So that's the mess now, huh.”
“Yeah.”
Chang-sik's stream didn't affect me at all, true.
But it hit Yuseung hard.
“Lmao. So you're single af but getting roasted as having a gf?”
“Driving me insane, fr.”
“Kekekeke. How tf do you run into him right when you're ditching her? Wild.”
“You laughing rn?”
“Not gonna laugh and explode?”
“You'd love being treated like my gf.”
…Ah.
Wait, is that what this means?
They don't know who his “gf” is, or that it's me—but the one getting “gf” treatment is me.
“…Take it back. Mood soured.”
“You've gotten dumber since turning girl.”
“Sexist.”
“Dumbass.”
“Noob.”
“Crybaby.”
“Butcher.”
“Mid support.”
“Wanna die?”
“Touched a nerve?”
Yesterday was Tundra vs. Starforce finals. No holding back, Yuseung spilled about me to the coach right away. I was set to meet the coach today.
So now Yuseung and I were heading to E Revolution Gaming's office, a bit far from home.
“Did you really need to pick me up?”
“I went home yesterday. Your place is on the way from mine.”
“Almost touched.”
“Says the crybaby from last night.”
“Fuck off.”
Last night, I'd already chatted a bit with the coach over phone.
First impression wasn't great. Needing a test? Fine. Conversation normal.
But something off. Heard my story, no shock—just calm. Not normal.
Maybe cuz he's young, unlike old coaches before.
At E Revolution Gaming's office, I was pleasantly surprised. 2nd div teams are usually tiny, but this rivaled 1st div. Way better than CM Revolution days before I left.
“Why's the building so huge? Where's the money from?”
“Rich owner bought us out after we left.”
“Why care so much about marketing then?”
“Rich don't tolerate endless deficits.”
“Esports ever profitable?”
Anyway, seemed stable—no disband or vanishing risk. (Not that I know if that happens.)
Following Yuseung to the office, I met the coach, Ive / Kim So-cheol, from last night's call. Yuseung left us alone; I bowed to Kim.
“Hi.”
“Hey, good to meet. I'm Kim So-cheol—call me So-cheol hyung, casual.”
“Pardon?”
“Dice, Seo Yeonwoo, right? Surprised yesterday, even more seeing you now. Sorry if that offends.”
“No, it's fine.”
…This guy's weird. Says surprised but face blank, “amazed” but eyes on papers, not me.
“Up front: Yesterday's test talk was formal. I've already greenlit you—unless you change your mind.”
“Wait, already decided?”
Biggest worry was him. Front office seemed hype-focused, fine. But he was quirky.
“Yeah.”
“…My skill doesn't matter?”
Had to doubt. But he said opposite.
“Nah. If you sucked, I'd block you hard.”
“Pardon?”
“Dunno what Yuseung said or your front office thoughts. But I won't turn this into a gimmick marketing squad.”
Kim looked up from papers, eyes meeting mine properly for first time.
“I'm here to make this team win.”
“ECK Challengers… 2nd div?”
“No.”
Eld Cup, Worlds.
“That's my target.”
Earlier I called him weird? Correction.
He wasn't weird.
He was insane.
“You're nuts?”
“Gotta be a bit crazy to aim for the throne.”
My ultimate goal: Crush Proud, win Worlds. I'm no saint either.
But even I wouldn't take this roster to Worlds. Yuseung aside, all underleveled—including me.
This lineup to Worlds win?
Not ordinary crazy.
“I've had targets from the start for that.”
“Am I one?”
“Yeah. Didn't expect Dice, though.”
Even thought I was just some streamer girl, he targeted me.
“Haven't been that standout lately.”
“True. Solo queue? Average. But post-change, played team games?”
“Yeah.”
“Not last year's early scrims—recent, stabilized?”
“…No.”
What’s he getting at?
“Thought since you were pro: Your eyes are special. Opinion, but you were Tundra's ops core.”
“Wasn't main caller.”
“Main caller? Irrelevant. Spotting details to enable it? You led that. Right?”
“…Yeah.”
I wasn't Tundra's main caller. But I handled details, info aggregation. How'd he know?
“Tundra lost yesterday cuz ops style shifted, couldn't fill your gap—not just Proud superplays.”
“Don't think mid would've won it.”
“Fair. But point: Your role mattered big.”
…Not ordinary crazy.
“Trust me. I'll get you to Worlds.”
World's crazies split two ways.
“Coach, weren't you 10th place team coach?”
“No real power there. I'd have avoided limp 10th.”
One: Confirmed lunatic, keep away.
“So washed-up me, girl support, relegation ADC to Eld Cup.”
One:
“Yeah.”
Confirmed lunatic, but makes you believe, wanna follow.
“You're the best.”
I like those types.
