Real Madrid's players had been called up to the national team. He tore into some chicken while praying for the future of those players, now slaves to their country.
"Whoa... Spain's got franchise chicken joints now too? How much is this?"
"50,000 won."
Kim Dusik answered his question. Dusik hyung had been swamped with Colchester United business lately, but now that Jorginho had joined and the handover was complete, he'd returned to his agent duties for him. The hyung who'd begged him never to make him a director again after coming back as his agent... He'd dreamed of real-life Football Manager so badly, but the gap between dream and reality must've been too wide.
"What the hell, two chickens cost as much as a day of national team training?"
A bitter feeling washed over him at the relentlessly rising chicken prices. Chicken was soul food to him. Memories bubbled up of his childhood, when six of them would split a single franchise chicken. Back in those hard times when they'd even share half a soybean...
Thinking of the Korean people who couldn't afford this delicious chicken made his heart ache... Assalaku—
Wait, all praise? But he was eating it just fine.
Wearing a look of bliss, he chowed down on the chicken. In his place, Yuna handed a chicken leg each to her niece Kim Hye-na and Yohan. Yohan grabbed his with a pouty face and whined.
"Maa— Yohanie want pizza..."
"Delivery's taking forever, huh? Eat the chicken for now, Yohan."
The pizza he'd ordered via app for Yohan, who loved it more than chicken, was running late. Yohan nodded glumly and started munching the chicken leg meat Yuna pulled off for him.
"Yummy—!"
Yohan's eyes sparkled after the first bite.
"More please!"
Oh. This new chicken release must've hit the spot for Yohan too. He took over from Yuna, who hadn't eaten a bite yet, and pulled meat for Yohan.
"Huh? Who's that... Never seen him before, but he's playing so steadily?"
Dusik hyung's comment mid-chicken made everyone turn to the TV. On screen was a defender wearing number 25.
"Hong Doyun? First call-up this time?"
He nodded slowly at the unfamiliar face. Forgetting the chicken entirely, they started focusing on the match.
"Paa—! Chicken!!!"
"Yohan! Mom said no yelling!"
South Korea 0 : 0 UAE.
35th minute of the first half.
"Mark number 8!!!"
He turned at Yoo Youngbeom's shout from behind the goal. UAE's number 8 was breaking into the penalty box.
With Kim Minjun's international retirement announcement and Jesus's suspension, Hong Doyun—who'd joined the national team—threw himself to block the ball, but the second ball fell to UAE. Even on the ground, Hong Doyun shoved his face at the ball in desperate defense.
Hong Doyun's rag-doll defending stopped UAE's attack, handing momentum to South Korea.
"Jinsu hyung!"
Kim Jinsu shook off UAE's midfielders with a press escape, then lofted a pass to Go Seokjun on the flank.
"Ooooh~~~"
The Red Devils packed into Asan cheered louder as South Korea built their attack.
The cross hit Baek Dongsu's forehead perfectly, but UAE keeper Khalid Al-Wababi's save snuffed it out.
Aaaah—!
The crowd groaned. The jumbotron showed Baek Dongsu shaking his head in thanks and regret, firing up the fans even more.
"Baek Dongsu fighting~!!"
"Dae~~han Minguk!"
South Korea's corner kick followed.
Hong Doyun, making his national team debut today, jostled fiercely with UAE players in the box.
Kim Jinsu signaled, then took the corner. Hong Doyun shook off his marker and
"Allahu Akbar!"
He'd flicked the ball on with a header, turning it into a goal.
Hong Doyun's name and current team flashed up. Jesus nodded.
"Hachi Unicorn's doing great work."
"Youngbeom was scouted by Hachi Unicorn too, right?"
"Yeah, entry test scouting... What the hell's he doing?!"
After scoring, Hong Doyun ran to the bench and shook Utilike's head in a familiar scene. Jesus pretended it was an accident and hit the power button, turning off the TV.
"Oops—! My bad, hit the wrong button."
"Ahem... Feels kinda familiar."
. .
Full time.
South Korea 1 : 0 UAE.
Whoa lmao he looks perfect for NTR lololol
As South Korean soccer fans zeroed in on rookie Hong Doyun, old posts resurfaced on soccer communities.

Glad. Reminds me of Jesus hyung so I won't call it a landmine lol
p.s. Lotsa verification requests, so like Jesus hyung did—if I score, I'll grab and shake coach Utilike's head. Thanks! -Hong Doyun-
