The Rental Girlfriend's Rescue
The only one still standing—the guy who looked like the boss—shouted, “Y-you! What the hell are you?!” His face was the picture of someone who’d just come face-to-face with a monster. He stumbled backward while staring at me, tripped, and collapsed onto his rear.
I had been about to beat him down when I decided to hear the victim, Kim Eunha, first. Keeping an eye on the fleeing men, I walked over to her and sat her down on the chair she was tied to.
“You okay?”
“Huh? Oh, y-yeah… I’m fine…”
When I reached her, she looked completely dazed, as if she couldn’t tell whether this was a dream or reality. After glancing at the gangsters sprawled across the floor, she spoke in a trembling voice.
“A-are you going to kill me too?”
“You asked me to save you, so I came to save you. Why would I kill you?”
“…This isn’t some drug-induced hallucination, right?”
“Get a grip. This is real. If it were a hallucination, it wouldn’t be me showing up—it’d be a prince on a white horse.”
“Yeah… that’s true.”
She responded lightly to my joke. I’d been worried she might panic after being kidnapped, but she seemed surprisingly normal. Or at least, she’s pretending to be.
Everything else she could fake, but her eyes gave her away—her pupils were shaking violently. Getting kidnapped out of nowhere and watching people die right in front of her… the fact that she was still holding it together said a lot about her mental strength.
“Can you stand?”
“Ah, um, yeah.”
Once I untied the ropes binding her to the chair, she stood up and glared at her kidnappers like she wanted to kill them. If I hadn’t shown up, she would’ve suffered far worse than death. Just as I was about to ask what she wanted to do with them, the boss suddenly jumped to his feet and started running—not toward the exit, but deeper into the building.
Wondering what he was up to, I watched as he punched a code into a safe, pulled out a handgun, and aimed it at me with a triumphant grin.
“Eek! A-a gun!”
“So it is a gun.”
When I didn’t react with fear, he snapped, “Hey, you bastard! This is a real gun!”
“Then go ahead and shoot.”
Instead of being intimidated, I stood my ground, which only made him more nervous. After seeing how inhumanly strong I was earlier, he clearly suspected I had another trick up my sleeve. His hands trembling, he steadied the gun and pointed it at my head.
“Fuck! Even if you’re a monster, a bullet to the head should kill you. Die!”
Bang—!
A bullet flew straight at my head. I casually tilted my head to the side and dodged it. The man’s eyes widened in panic, and he fired again.
Bang! Bang—!
Both shots missed, embedding themselves harmlessly into the wall.
“Damn it! Try dodging this! Die!”
Realizing shooting me was pointless, he swung the gun toward Kim Eunha behind me. His expression said he knew I wouldn’t be able to dodge this time without her getting hit. He pulled the trigger.
“Kyaa!”
Kim Eunha screamed as the bullet raced toward her. He’s crossed the line. Kidnapping a woman was already bad enough, but trying to commit murder with a gun? That was going too far.
The bullet came at us faster than the eye could see, but to me it moved in slow motion. I snatched it out of the air like catching a fly.
“What the fuck?! Are you even human?! How the hell did you catch a bullet with your hand?!”
Seeing me grab the bullet instead of just dodging it, the man completely lost it and tried to shoot again. But the gun clicked empty. I decided to return the favor with the bullet I’d caught.
Flicking it with my finger, I sent it flying straight into his stomach.
“Gah!”
The bullet punched a massive hole through his abdomen. He collapsed, screaming, and dropped the gun. I crushed it under my foot, flattening it like a soda can.
Turning to Kim Eunha, I asked, “What do you want to do with him? Kill him like this, or get some revenge first?”
I handed her a baseball bat one of the other gangsters had been carrying. Without a word, she took it and started swinging at the man.
“You bastard! You’re worse than trash!”
She screamed as she poured out all the fear and terror she’d been holding in. For someone who looked like an ordinary woman, she was remarkably strong-willed. I could feel the solid impact of each swing. The man passed out after the first hit and couldn’t even fight back.
I watched until her breathing grew ragged, then grabbed her arm.
“That’s enough.”
“Haa, haa… Why?”
“If you keep going, he’ll die. Are you ready to kill someone?”
“……”
Watching someone die and doing it yourself were two completely different things. She might be fine now, but it could haunt her for life. I stopped her and finished the job myself. After dealing with the rest of the twitching gangsters one by one, I activated the Clean skill.
Nothing beats this skill for cleaning up trash.
Because of their size, it consumed quite a bit of Sex Power, but the bodies vanished without a trace, leaving the place spotless as if nothing had happened.
With the situation finally resolved, the rescue mission was over. In movies, the rescued heroine usually throws herself into the hero’s arms, but Kim Eunha just stood there frozen by the sheer unreality of it all.
“Y-you… Just who the hell are you?”
Her eyes went wide as she stared at the spot where the gangsters had disappeared. I gave her a meaningful look.
“Want to know?”
“N-no. I think I’d rather not.”
She exercised her right to remain ignorant. Humans instinctively feared the unknown. Showing her something clearly beyond human limits was a much more effective way to keep her quiet than half-measures. Even if she tried to tell someone, who would believe it?
“You’re not hurt anywhere, are you?”
“I can manage… sir.”
She almost spoke casually out of habit, then quickly switched to polite speech after remembering I’d just saved her. I checked her over. Her clothes weren’t torn and there were no signs she’d been assaulted—thankfully, I hadn’t been too late. There was a faint red mark on her cheek, though, like she’d been slapped.
When I reached out to heal her, she flinched in surprise. After nearly going through something horrible, she was probably terrified of a man’s touch. Forcing anything now would only backfire, so I quietly focused on treating her wounds instead of trying to win her over.
“Healing.”
The moment my hand touched her cheek, the mark vanished. I also used Clean to remove the bloodstains on her clothes. Kim Eunha stared in disbelief, pinching and pulling at her own face.
“What the… Haah, I’m too tired to even be surprised anymore.”
She let out a long sigh.
“…The police won’t come looking because of this, right?”
“Don’t worry. Nothing will happen. A dozen people disappeared, but they were gangsters to begin with. Since we have no connection to them, even if the investigation catches anyone, it’ll be other gangsters—not us.”
After confirming she was fine, I offered to take her home. As I turned to leave, she grabbed my hand.
“Wait. Where are you going?!”
“You wouldn’t want to be around me, would you?”
“N-not really… Besides, you’re just going to leave a woman alone in a place like this? You jerk!”
I chuckled at her sharp “jerk.” She was clearly trying to act tough.
“Aren’t you scared of men?”
“Hmph, I’m perfectly fine!”
She grabbed my hand the same way she had when pretending to be my girlfriend. There was a brief tremor, then she squeezed tightly. We hailed a taxi to head home. Kim Eunha stayed silent the entire ride, holding my hand without letting go. Even when the taxi stopped in front of her studio apartment, she still hadn’t released it.
“You know you can’t tell anyone about what happened today, right?”
“Do you think I’m an idiot? I won’t say a word, so don’t worry. And… um, thank you. Really. For saving me today.”
“I’ll make sure to collect proper compensation next time. Get some rest and I’ll see you later.”
I tried to let go, but she still wouldn’t release my hand. After a moment of hesitation, she looked at me and spoke quietly.
“Hey… Do you want to come up and have ramen? Or, you know… watch Netflix?”
