The Heavenly Demon's Overdrive (4)
The standoff between Myeong-yun and the killers continued.
Meanwhile, the other survivors were busy cranking generators.
A perfectly peaceful generator time.
Thanks to all the killers heading to the movie theater to capture a single survivor, the rest of the group could repair the generators without any interference whatsoever.
“As expected of the Heavenly Demon! Taking on two killers all by himself!”
“I want to go watch the Heavenly Demon too, but we each have our own roles! Since he trusted us enough to leave the generators in our hands, we’ll repair them with everything we’ve got!”
“Let’s spin every single generator on the map!”
Myeong-yun’s viewers repaired the generators with fierce enthusiasm.
In Overdrive mode, eight generators needed to be repaired.
With six people working on them—excluding Myeong-yun and one stalker—the repair speed was absolutely monstrous.
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Four generators lit up in the blink of an eye.
Including the ones they had already activated earlier, only two generators remained.
With six people working together, two generators would be finished in no time.
And sure enough, the remaining generators were soon repaired as well. Lights flickered on all across the map.
The survivors immediately sprinted toward the exits.
Since opening an exit didn’t require many people, Myeong-yun’s viewers gathered together to discuss their next move.
“I believe we should go help the Heavenly Demon.”
“I agree completely.”
“Wait, everyone, think about it. Do you really believe the Heavenly Demon would welcome our help?”
“No matter how strong the Heavenly Demon is, facing two killers one-on-one seems impossible, right?”
“Look, several minutes have already passed since the standoff began and he hasn’t been hit even once! You clearly don’t trust the Heavenly Demon!”
They debated seriously, sounding exactly like devotees of the Heavenly Demon Cult—arguing whether they should rush to Myeong-yun’s aid or if leaving would actually be more helpful.
In truth, every single one of them wanted to run straight to Myeong-yun right now.
How often did anyone get the chance to witness the Heavenly Demon’s majesty up close?
But they had a feeling that doing so would earn them a very stern scolding.
“…Even if I get yelled at, I’m going to help the Heavenly Demon!”
One person suddenly broke away and sprinted toward the movie theater.
The rest clenched their fists and immediately followed.
“Let’s go see the Heavenly Demon!”
“We’re going to help the Heavenly Demon!”
“I’m going to shake his hand!”
“Hey! I’m going for a hug!”
Each of them harboring their own ulterior motives, the four viewers raced toward the theater.
But when they burst inside, what they saw was Myeong-yun standing there without the slightest sign of fatigue or even a single scratch.
On the contrary, the killers were actually backing away from him.
It was a sight truly befitting the title of ‘Heavenly Demon.’ The viewers instinctively dropped to their knees.
There was an overwhelming aura radiating from Myeong-yun that demanded such reverence.
Those tainted by demonic energy naturally submitted before an even greater demonic presence.
The kneeling viewers bowed their heads in unison and shouted as one.
THE HEAVENLY DEMON HAS DESCENDED! ALL DEMONS KNEEL AND WORSHIP!!
“The Heavenly Demon has descended! All demons kneel and worship!!”
“The Heavenly Demon has descended! All demons kneel and worship!!”
“The Heavenly Demon has descended! All demons kneel and worship!!”
“The Heavenly Demon has descended! All demons kneel and worship!!”
The perfectly synchronized chant and the sight of people slamming their foreheads to the floor startled the killers locked in a standoff with Myeong-yun. They whipped around in alarm.
There they saw several people with their faces pressed to the ground, along with one very confused succubus looking around in bewilderment.
“W-what the hell is going on?! What is this?!”
Tio couldn’t follow the flow of events at all.
She understood that a survivor had started a one-on-two fight against two killers.
But everything after that was so absurd her brain simply refused to process it.
It was already amazing that he could deflect the Butcher’s blade, but then he adjusted the trajectory mid-motion to bounce back the Gunslinger’s bullets too.
It looked like some kind of sorcery.
The killers, realizing their attacks weren’t working, hesitated and began retreating.
The roles of survivor and killer had been completely reversed.
And now the survivors who had finished repairing all the generators and come to help were kneeling and chanting some incomprehensible slogan.
It looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
No—everything that had happened so far could have been its own horror film.
If someone made a first-person short film from Tio’s perspective, it would be a masterpiece.
“I-I don’t understand any of this! I’m sorry my brain is so slow!”
Myeong-yun stood with his hands clasped behind his back, calmly surveying the current situation.
If they had finished repairing the generators, they should have escaped already. Why had they come here?
It wasn’t that he couldn’t understand.
In his previous life, the cult members had often waited for hours on the road just to catch a glimpse of him.
Still, he hadn’t thought his viewers would go quite that far.
It seems I misjudged them.
Myeong-yun let out a small chuckle, then extended one hand and declared in a booming voice.
His voice carried overwhelming dignity.
The words echoed throughout the screening room, reaching everyone’s ears with perfect clarity.
The intense voice seemed to strike directly into their brains. Everyone—including the cult members—began to tremble uncontrollably.
A hint of anger could be felt within it.
Yet that anger soon transformed into benevolence.
The fury subsided, and his now gentler voice pierced straight into their hearts.
A declaration that he was not someone who needed protection.
Instead, he stated that it was his duty to protect them.
That was what it meant to be the Heavenly Demon.
He had an obligation to watch over all those who had come beneath his umbrella.
People arbitrarily believed in the Heavenly Demon and made him the object of their faith, yet the Heavenly Demon never turned his back on them.
Myeong-yun continued.
“As you command!”
“We shall obey!”
“Heavenly Demon, you are so cool!”
“The coolest Heavenly Demon ever!”
The viewers left their comments, then jumped to their feet and began fleeing at full speed.
Tio looked back and forth between them and the Heavenly Demon before shouting “Ah, whatever!” and running after them.
Now only two killers and Myeong-yun remained.
The torn screen.
Inside the small screening room where the sound of film still played, Myeong-yun spoke to the pair.
Whether his words had snapped them out of their daze or not, the two killers charged at him.
The killers used every method at their disposal to try to bring Myeong-yun down.
They swung their weapons with everything they had.
The Gunslinger, whose bullets had run out, drew the machete from her waist and slashed wildly, but Myeong-yun deflected every strike so cleanly that not even a hair on his head was touched.
The Gunslinger’s player, Sexy4Eva, was internally screaming This is insane! over and over.
Experiencing it firsthand, she couldn’t believe how mystical his movements were. It felt like he was possessed by a ghost—no, it was truly a divine technique.
Even though Overdrive mode increased all speeds by 1.3 times.
There wasn’t a single wasted motion in Myeong-yun’s movements.
“I will follow you for the rest of my life! Heavenly Demon! Starting today, you are my favorite!”
That was not something one should say while swinging a machete.
And finally, every survivor except Myeong-yun had escaped.
A heavy clunk echoed through the theater.
It was the sound of the emergency exit opening—the one that appeared when only one survivor remained.
The moment they heard it, the killers moved frantically.
“Damn it, it opened inside the theater?! Find it and close it! I’ll hold him off here!”
The panicked Butcher shouted as he hurled his chains. The Gunslinger sprinted off to find the emergency exit.
Now in a one-on-one with the Butcher, Myeong-yun moved almost as if he were toying with him.
The Butcher tried to stick close so Myeong-yun couldn’t escape.
The Butcher’s blades couldn’t reach him, so his balance was inevitably thrown off.
Myeong-yun, hands still clasped behind his back, leisurely walked past the stumbling Butcher and headed for the exit.
The Butcher chased after him with heavy, thunderous footsteps, but for some reason the distance between them never closed.
Even though Myeong-yun was walking slowly with his hands behind his back, the Butcher simply couldn’t catch up.
And then, at some point, Myeong-yun’s figure vanished like a mirage.
In the first place, the Butcher hadn’t been chasing Myeong-yun at all.
The viewers reacted with confusion as they watched the killer running in the opposite direction of Myeong-yun.
Myeong-yun slightly lifted the corner of his mouth and added an explanation.
What the killer was chasing wasn’t Myeong-yun, but the afterimage he had left behind.
Using his footwork, he had created an afterimage visible only to the killer, then moved off in the opposite direction.
To the viewers who couldn’t see the afterimage, the killer simply looked like he was acting strangely.
The only one who knew the truth was Myeong-yun.
He walked with relaxed steps, moving to bring the game to its conclusion.
