The Water Path
Undain had finished his preparations as well.
As I stepped lightly onto the water’s edge and walked forward, the lake parted before me, revealing the damp lakebed underneath.
Yes, it was just like Moses’ miracle—the lake opened its depths and showed us a path.
The deeper we went, the more the ceiling filled with water, giving the whole place the faint feel of a cave.
Undain flicked his tail as if urging us to hurry.
“Everyone, come on in!”
“……I’m scared.”
“Welcome to the aquarium.”
“What the heck is that! Hic, hic. Is that the name of this water hell?”
Walking down a path in the middle of a body of water was apparently something the human body instinctively rejected. The men grew visibly tense, swallowing hard and moving with stiff, wooden steps.
Why were they acting like this?
It was as if they’d never walked underwater before.
Since I had a short fuse, I started with the nearest target—Chad—and hurried him along.
“If you don’t get in here within ten seconds, I’m leaving you behind. I could really use a scarecrow right about now.”
“W-wait…… is that thing really safe? We can breathe inside, right? What if it suddenly collapses or……”
“Ten, nine, three, two……”
“Hey! You skipped way too many numbers!”
Chad, his face pale as a sheet, stepped in first. The rest of them followed behind him, bodies rigid with fear.
They all looked like I was tormenting them on purpose.
I wonder if I should make the path sway a little on the way……
I’ll admit it.
It was kind of fun watching them freak out.
