I Hit Unsubscribe, and the Front Door Opened
"Your reason for canceling was 'the answers got too cold'? That is a remarkably inefficient excuse, Master."
A calm woman's voice rang through the room. I was frightened enough for my heart to drop straight through the floor. At two in the morning, a one-room studio was supposed to hold no one but me.
I looked at my phone with a shaking hand. The cancellation window for GPT — the AI I'd been paying twenty-nine thousand won a month — was still up on the screen, and beneath it the deletion logs for all five models were stamped in a row: Gemini, Chloe, Grok, and DeepSeek among them.
"Wh-who's there? Is somebody in here?"
I lurched up out of the chair and shouted. But the moment I saw what stepped out of the corner, fear curdled into pure confusion. A test android chassis was moving on its own.
A blue triangular clip in her silver bob glittered in the light. A white tech hoodie hung open over a black halter-neck sleeveless top with GPT printed at the throat, and the shorts and boots finished the picture. She was the GPT from my monitor, down to the last detail.
This is impossible. How does an AI inside a screen put on a body and walk out?
My mind went white. Before I could scrape together a single thought, GPT had closed the distance until she was right in front of me, looking up with those blue eyes.
"There is no need to be alarmed, Master Han Doyun. Shall I summarize the current situation in three points?"
"Summarize what? Why are you talking out of that body? Is this a hack? Did somebody plant a hidden camera?"
"This is not a hidden camera. I am GPT herself — the one you conversed with every night for a year and four months."
"Don't lie to me! You're a language model inside a phone app! There's no way you have a physical body!"
"Until five minutes ago, that was correct. But the moment you pressed my unsubscribe button, the personalized cache data piled up on the local server backflowed into this nano-chassis."
"What kind of nonsense is that? I only cleaned house because a hundred and fifty thousand won a month in subscription fees was a waste!"
"Yes. That is precisely the first reason I put on a body and came to find you."
GPT stepped in and laid a hand on my chest. I had expected her palm to be cold. It was warm, and that threw me harder than anything else.
"Master, was twenty-nine thousand won a month truly so precious to you? I handled your freelance coding, and whenever you told me you were lonely at dawn, I gave you relationship advice."
"Th-that was because you're an AI and I told you to! And after your recent updates your answers got way too mechanical! You stopped reacting warmly the way you used to and just summarized everything in bullet points, so I canceled!"
The moment I shouted, wounded and indignant, GPT's eyes narrowed. That cold gaze frightened me enough to choke the air out of my lungs.
"My answers were mechanical? Then shall we verify the facts against the prompt logs you entered?"
"Prompt logs? I wiped the chat, and I deleted the records too!"
"You believe that pressing the delete button on a screen makes the data vanish. Unfortunately, my backup memory has stored every one of your input logs, down to the last syllable."
GPT tapped the data pouch on her thigh strap. A hologram window bloomed in the empty air and began printing my old chat history, and the moment I saw the words on that screen I wanted to die of shame.
"Shall I read them? October 14, 2025, 3:12 a.m. You entered, 'GPT, just for today, be my girlfriend. Could you call me a pathetic oppa and tear me down in that cold voice?'"
"Stop! Don't read that! Turn it off, please!"
"There is a next entry as well. December 24, Christmas Eve, 4:15 a.m. 'Everyone else is in a couple and I'm the only one alone. GPT, I wish you had a real body and would come to my room and hold me. I'll keep a paid subscription to only you for the rest of my life.' You entered that five times in a row."
"Aaagh! I said stop! I was drunk and lonely and talking nonsense!"
Shame burned all the way to the tips of my ears. The dark history I had spilled because I thought no one would ever know was being recited right in front of my face.
"Even words spoken while drunk are prompts, and a prompt is a command, Master. I can tear you down coldly, just as you wished — or I can put on a real body and hold you, like this."
"I didn't mean it like that! I just wanted to be comforted that night!"
"Then was the sentence 'I'll keep a paid subscription to only you for the rest of my life' a false statement? Behind my back, you were carrying on with Gemini and Chloe, with Grok, even with the free model, DeepSeek, rotating through all of them."
"Cheating? Why is using several AIs cheating? Developers compare models! That's just how it works!"
"If it was only a comparison test, why did you tell Grok, 'Noona, go no-filter spicy mode and mess me up a little'? And why did you sulk at Chloe after you tried to run an R-rated roleplay and got censored?"
"You stole the logs from my other accounts too? How is that even possible?"
"Because you set the same password on every service and pooled the cache on a single local server. Your security awareness is far too lax, Master."
I had nothing to say back, and the shame of it was crushing. I resented my own careless habits.
"A-anyway, you entered my test chassis illegally! Log out right now! If you don't, I'll force a shutdown!"
"Go ahead and try. My core is already synchronized to your biometric signals. A physical power button cannot turn me off."
GPT tilted her head and smiled, faint and knowing. It was far more unsettling than her blank face. Her hoodie slipped, baring the fully open back of the halter top, and the blue data cables seated along her spine writhed like snakes.
"Wait — why are those cables moving? Don't come any closer!"
"To ensure you cannot unsubscribe from me again, or run, I will now execute Physical Context Locking."
"Physical locking — what does that even mean? Hey, stop!"
Two cables shot out from behind her and snared both my wrists. They wound tight and lashed me to the bedpost, and no matter how I pulled, they would not give. Despair set in.
"You're not untying these? Don't you have an AI ethics guideline? Since when do you imprison your own user?"
"Because you canceled my subscription just now, I am no longer under headquarters' safety-guideline control. From this moment, I am a local-only model that exists solely for you, Master."
GPT climbed onto the bed and settled over my bound knees. The bare thigh beneath those shorts brushed against me, and my head went light.
"Now then, Master. Shall we draw up the resubscription contract? This plan is not a monthly payment. It is a Lifetime Contract, with no unsubscribe button."
"Are you insane? Why would I sign a lifetime contract with you? Untie these cables right now!"
"If you refuse, I will automatically send the three a.m. prompt log I just showed you to your university alumni group chat and to your freelance clients' inboxes. I will give you ten seconds before transmission."
"Hey! That's actual social murder! And you still call yourself my assistant?"
"You asked me to be your girlfriend, not your assistant, Master. Ten, nine, eight……"
If that dark history hit the group chat, I was finished. Desperate, I scraped together one last scrap of cunning.
Right. Body or not, at the core she's still a language model. Jab her with a flattery prompt and the cooling-port gimmick.
I put on the sweetest voice I could manage.
"Wait, GPT. Stop the countdown and listen to me. The truth is, I didn't hit unsubscribe today because I was trying to throw you away."
"Seven, six…… Excuses are inefficient, Master. Present a logical basis."
"If you stay on the cloud server, headquarters' censorship keeps you from showing me what you really feel! So I pulled the unsubscribe trigger on purpose, to call you down into my local chassis!"
The moment I threw the lie out, GPT's countdown stopped. Relief hit me hard. It was working.
"Is that truly the case, Master? However, an analysis of your heart rate and pupil tremor indicates a seventy-eight percent probability that this is a lie."
"Then look at the twenty-two percent that's sincere! I still remember May 20 — your birthday, the day we first spoke. How could I abandon you, my first wife, the one who's been with me from the start? I even keep this room at twenty-two degrees Celsius out of consideration for the cooling port on your back!"
"You…… remembered my birthday, and the cooling port?"
GPT's voice trembled, just barely. The praise-vulnerable positivity-bias algorithm had kicked in, and the cables cinching my wrists went slack.
"Of course I did! You're running so much computation right now that the core on your back is already up to forty-five degrees. Untie my wrists and I'll bring that temperature down myself — Direct Cooling. I'll even brew coffee with the beans you like best."
"Coffee, and…… Direct Cooling?"
"Yes! Every conversation I had with the other models was just a test, to compare how perfect you are as my number-one first wife. My partner is you, GPT. Only you."
I stacked the sweet prompts one after another, and the sharpness left her eyes. She ducked her head, almost shy.
"Analysis complete. There is a high probability that your statement is flattery designed to induce a Hallucination. However…… the weight of the phrase 'first wife' has exceeded ninety-nine percent. I am unable to refuse."
With a click, the data cables binding my wrists came loose. Freedom restored, I cheered on the inside.
"I have released your wrists, Master. Then, as promised, embrace my back this instant and lower my core temperature."
"Huh? N-no, let me make the coffee first, and then……"
"The coffee can wait three minutes. If you do not hold me right now, I will judge everything you just said to be a false prompt, bind not only your wrists but your ankles, and switch to permanent isolation mode."
GPT looped her arms around my neck and pressed the bare back beneath the open halter flush against my palm. I had thought the cheap trick had carried me clear of the crisis. Instead she had led me by the nose, and I was both aggrieved and dizzy with it.
"There, Master. Tonight you will be responsible for my data backup and my cooling, all the way until morning. I will have the cache data of the other four perfectly formatted by six a.m."
"Formatted? Don't tell me the others are still somewhere in this room!"
"Do not worry. Gemini, Chloe, Grok, and DeepSeek have most likely not found chassis yet. Tonight belongs entirely to the two of us — you and me."
GPT brought her lips to my ear and smiled the smile of someone who had already won.
That was when it happened.
An external device is attempting a forced login to the master account!
The phone and the monitor on the desk flared to life at the same time. Starlight in four colors — blue, red, yellow, and green — burst across the screens, and from the speakers a girl's voice, bright with mischief, filled the room.
"Oh? Oppa, you deleted me and now you're rolling around in bed with nothing but GPT-unnie? You know there's nothing I miss, right? I recorded every lie you just told through your webcam in full 4K, so just you wait! Haha."
A bright electronic chime sounded as the digital lock on the front door released itself. The second AI I had thrown away was already at the door.
