I Taught My Primary Wife a New Position, and My Concubine Taught Me One Too
"Minji, get out for a second."
After telling Minji to step out, I climbed over into the driver's seat, shifted into reverse, and backed the car up. Fortunately, only the front bumper was dented; the engine seemed undamaged. Since I didn't have anyone trustworthy to do auto maintenance, I'd have to find another car to drive in the future. Sure, Jeong Hyeonguk used to work as a lathe operator at Baekjin Precision, but it wouldn't be surprising at all if that old bastard intentionally sabotaged a perfectly good car just to kill me.
"Luckily, the car isn't broken. Get back in the driver's seat."
Minji looked a bit terrified.
"It's fine. You won't die. Do you think we became Awakeners for nothing?"
Of course, I had absolutely no intention of taking such a risk myself. After reassuring Minji, I resumed her driving lesson.
"Keep your foot on the brake, then slowly let off it while pressing the accelerator."
Vroooom—
Fuck, that sounded like the car's lifespan was being shaved off. I didn't own a car myself, but even I knew that doing that wore down the brake pads and rotors while putting immense strain on the engine and transmission. Well, whatever. It wasn't my car anyway. It was the same logic as treating my fucktoy Ye-jeong with care while using Jeonga, who wasn't my fucktoy yet, however the hell I wanted.
"Right, just like that. Slowly move your right foot from the brake to the gas pedal. Just press the gas gently. You're doing great."
They say praise can make even a troubled soldier dance, right? Scolding a total screw-up only makes them lose confidence and make more mistakes. This was all practical wisdom I'd beaten into me during my time at the non-commissioned officer training academy. Of course, I'd been forced to drop out halfway through because of the useless instructors and my trash-tier peers.
"When you want to go backward, put it in R. When you park, put it in P. When you're driving, keep it in D like this. N is for idling, and don't worry about the numbers next to it—you don't need them right now, so just ignore them."
Teaching her too much at once would only confuse her and lead to mistakes. It was best to only teach what was immediately necessary to keep things simple and error-free.
"Oh, and if you ever experience sudden unintended acceleration like earlier, or if the brakes stop working, shift the gear to P and pull the handbrake."
In reality, most cases of "sudden acceleration" weren't actually vehicle malfunctions; they were usually caused by idiots like her slamming on the gas instead of the brake and convincing themselves they were braking. So, in a way, it was sudden acceleration. Though, considering the Toyota recall scandal over unintended acceleration, it wasn't always 100% driver error.
"Ah!"
Looking at Minji's thighs as she drove in her skirt reminded me of something important I'd forgotten. I immediately got out of the car.
"Jihye~"
"What is it?"
"You have a skirt uniform, right? As far as I know, all officers have them except for prison guards."
"I do."
"You said there's a locker room at the substation, right? Since you mentioned the chief installed a spycam there? Are there lockers?"
"There are two-tier lockers, like the ones in public bathhouses. My dress uniform skirt is in there. But I only wear it for official events."
"Bring that skirt uniform too. I want you to wear it whenever I feel like getting off."
Hearing that, Jihye gave me a sly, seductive smile. She was gorgeous. Fuck, when it came to women, youth and looks really were everything. Even a psychopathic bitch like her looked adorable.
"Can I ride the motorcycle on the way back?"
A real man couldn't be seen riding a pathetic little scooter like some chick squatting to take a piss.
"Instead of the scooter? Have you ever ridden a manual motorcycle before?"
"I haven't, but I have a driver's license and I know how to ride a bicycle. How hard could it be?"
"Just bring the scooter back slowly instead of causing an accident like Minji~"
Jihye giggled. Unlike before, this laugh felt suspiciously like she was mocking me. Ugh. My manly pride was taking a hit. Still, after seeing Minji crash just moments ago, if I insisted on riding the motorcycle and crashed after Jihye's warning, I would look like an absolute clown. I decided to swallow my pride and stick to the scooter. Jihye gave me a quick crash course on how to operate it.
"Mr. Doyoung, have you ever driven a manual car?"
This bitch was completely looking down on me now. Did my title just get demoted from 'Husband' to 'Mr. Doyoung'?
"I have a Class 1 manual license just like you, you know."
"Then this will be easier to explain. Unlike high-displacement manual motorcycles, scooters have automatic transmissions instead of manual gear shifts. That's why manual motorcycles are called 'manual bikes.' You wouldn't expect a first-time driver to jump straight into a manual car, right? It's the same for me."
Fuck, that made perfect sense. For a former high school bully, why was she explaining this like a star academy instructor?
"So, just like an automatic car, as long as you know how to use the throttle and the brakes, a scooter will move. They were originally designed so even idiots could ride them."
Was this bitch taking a jab at me?
"Since you know how to ride a bicycle, explaining the brakes will be simple. But it's actually the opposite of a bicycle. The brake lever on the right handlebar controls the front wheel, and the one on the left controls the rear wheel. If you instinctively squeeze the right brake hard like you would for a bicycle's rear brake, the front wheel of the scooter will lock up, and you might flip forward."
"That sounds a bit confusing."
"If you slam on a bicycle's front brake suddenly, you flip over too, right? People transitioning from bicycles to scooters often get the left and right brake functions mixed up, so it's safest to ride slowly at first."
"If even a scooter is this confusing, how do you ride a proper motorcycle?"
"Hehehe. On a manual motorcycle, the left handlebar lever is the clutch, just like in a manual car, used for shifting gears. The rear brake is actually a foot pedal in front of your right footrest, so the brakes are actually less confusing. But since shifting gears is tricky, it's much harder for beginners."
"Then how do you accelerate?"
"You see how you're holding the right handlebar? That's called the throttle. If you twist your wrist downward, you accelerate. If you let go, a spring automatically snaps it back to its original position, slowing you down. Just think of it as the gas pedal."
"Are there any other precautions besides not mixing up the left and right brakes?"
"Don't ride with your right fingers resting on the brake lever like you would on a bicycle. When you brake, you need to roll your hand forward to release the throttle before grabbing the brake lever. Beginners often panic and squeeze their hand shut, which actually twists the throttle and makes them accelerate. For a beginner, it's much safer to slow down with the left brake first, then release the throttle and grab the right brake as a two-step motion."
"And?"
"The rest is pretty much like a car. First, insert the key and turn it to the ON position. Next, squeeze the left brake lever. If you don't hold it down, the engine won't start even if you press the ignition button. Then, use your right thumb to press the start button on the right handlebar, and the engine will turn over. Once it's started, just balance yourself like you would on a bicycle and go."
First, insert the key. Turn it to ON. Squeeze the brake with the left hand, and press the start button with the right thumb.
Vroom—
"Oh, it started."
"Only twist the throttle gently. Unless you want to shoot forward like Minji did."
Did this bitch think I was some trash-tier rookie like Minji? She kept looking down on me. I'll show her what a real man can do!
I twisted the throttle toward my body incredibly slowly. The scooter crept forward at a snail's pace.
Pfft—
Fuck, I could hear Jihye trying to hold back her laughter. If I looked back and got mad now, I'd just look pathetic. I'll just ignore her and keep practicing.
My scooter practice and Minji's driving practice finally came to an end. We decided that Jeonga would drive the patrol car, while Minji would drive Choi Jihun's sedan. I rode the patrol scooter, and Jihye rode the patrol motorcycle as we headed back to the Haenggung Officetel. Jihye, who was highly skilled in driving and combat, took the lead. Jeonga followed behind her, Minji followed Jeonga, and I brought up the rear, keeping a watchful eye on our surroundings.
We finally arrived at the officetel. After parking the two cars, the manual motorcycle, and the scooter in the parking lot, Minji stayed behind to guard the gear while the three of us began hauling it up. Once we reached Minji's apartment on the second floor, I stayed behind to guard the stash and ordered Choi Jihun and Ye-jeong to help carry the rest. Finally, all the weapons and gear were moved into Minji's place. Come to think of it, I recalled seeing solar panels on the roof of the police substation earlier.
"Juho, when we went to the substation earlier, I saw solar panels on the roof. Can we move them here and install them?"
"It's definitely possible. If they're already installed, all the necessary parts should be there. Plus, since it's a police station, they'll have batteries too, not just panels, since they need electricity at night. But right now, the radiation makes it too dangerous. We'll have to wait at least two weeks before we can do it."
"Two weeks? You mean two weeks from the nuclear blast?"
"Yes, exactly."
Juho was starting to look like a goddamn treasure chest. Fuck, wasn't there something I could give him as a reward? It was still too risky to unlock his handcuffs, though. I didn't trust him not to stab me in the back.
"Ye-jeong, I mean, Mother-in-law. Is there any special food we can make for Juho?"
"A special meal, all of a sudden?"
"Well, he's been a huge help, hasn't he? Like blocking the fallout at the beginning."
Ye-jeong glanced at Juho's wrists, then down at her own. But it was still a no-go. Juho wasn't a useless human being like her; freeing him would be far too dangerous. Females had no real function beyond being cock-sleeves anyway.
"Should I make some Jjapaguri with ham?"
"Oh, that sounds delicious. Let's make enough for everyone. Everyone worked hard hauling gear from the substation today."
While Ye-jeong and Jeonga were busy preparing the Jjapaguri, I found myself craving fried eggs to go with it. We had used up all our eggs making fried rice and spicy stir-fried pork on the first day of the nuclear war, but we had the fresh batch of eggs we looted from the substation today.
Once the Jjapaguri was ready, I first dished out portions for those who had worked hard today—Minji, Jeonga, Jihye, and myself—along with a serving for Juho. Next, I served Ye-jeong, who had worked hard cooking, and Jihun, who had helped carry the supplies. I hesitated over whether to feed Jeong Hyeonguk, but since he was still Minji's father and Ye-jeong's husband, I gave him a bowl of Jjapaguri too—though I made sure to pick out all the ham.
