From Beef Pickup to Blizzard Rampage
The fairy Haru who came to pick up the beef. No, the Primrose that Haru had become was currently staring at her reflection in the mirror, thinking, This isn't reality, is it?
Her body had suddenly transformed, and she was even dressed in clothes that matched her new female form. Why? She'd asked herself that hundreds of times already, but she still couldn't understand the reason at all. That alone was enough to scramble her mind, and on top of everything...
By the way... why is everyone staring at me?
They were looking so intently that her face felt like it was about to burst into flames with a poof. She wanted to bolt out of there immediately. She wanted someone to please get her out of this insane situation.
Woo-kyaaaak!
She was internally screaming just like Hunya, desperately denying reality, when the store manager stepped out. Without thinking, she answered with a bright “Yes!”
As she tried to leave, the men around her wore disappointed expressions. Just as she was sighing in relief, a strange feeling washed over her. Her elf-like ears twitched, and while she looked around thinking What? What is it? What’s happening?, a siren began to blare.
Monster attack detected. Please evacuate to a safe zone immediately. I repeat. Monster attack detected. Please evacuate to the designated safe zone immediately. This is not a drill—it is a real situation!
A loud disaster alert echoed throughout the city at the same time a text message arrived on her smartphone. It said a dimensional rift had opened in a nearby alley and monsters were pouring out. The message ordered people to leave the area at once, and if they were nearby, not to foolishly try running but to hide until the emergency monster response unit arrived.
The news sent the PC bang into an uproar. People were flustered, but since monster attacks happened frequently, most tried to flee. The moment they heard the monsters’ roars, however, everyone realized Going outside means death and froze in place.
The clerk flipped the main circuit breaker to cut all noise so the monsters wouldn’t react to the commotion. Normally the place would have filled with curses about games turning off, but not today. The terror that making even the slightest sound could get them killed dominated the entire café.
Everyone except one idiot who couldn’t read the room, that is.
“What the fuck is this?!”
A student playing the shooter game Abados ripped off his headset and shouted.
“My computer suddenly shut down! What the hell! Manager, get your ass out here!”
Because he’d been wearing a headset, he apparently hadn’t noticed the situation. Or maybe he was just furious that the game had closed at a critical moment. Either way, his curses rang through the entire PC bang.
“Are you insane?!” someone yelled at him.
He huffed angrily. “Ah, fuck, what are you saying? You wanna die? I’ll kill you, you son of a bitch!”
Is this the price of game addiction, or does he seriously not understand what’s happening? The moment that thought crossed her mind, another roar sounded—much closer than before.
The man’s face turned deathly pale. “Whatwhatwhat?!” he stammered, and it became obvious he really hadn’t known.
It was possible he genuinely didn’t know, but the situation was far too serious to brush off. The roar grew even closer, almost as if the monster were right outside. Is it coming here? No, there were too many humans around. There was no way it would single out this building.
The instant she thought that, something flew through the window and shattered the glass. Broken shards sprayed everywhere, cutting people who screamed in pain.
When everyone looked to see what had smashed through, they found a human corpse so mangled by the monster that its original shape was unrecognizable.
Everyone screamed. Moments later, the lowest-grade Level 1 undead goblin—its body half-rotted and covered in mold—revealed itself.
It scanned the room with its half-decayed eyes, spotted the people, let out a shriek, and charged.
Seeing it, she muttered “crazy, crazy” under her breath. What do I do? While she panicked, something suddenly flashed in the corner of her mind.
In the dream, corpses were always piled around this girl.
Since the girl looked like something out of a dream, maybe she was as strong as a dream, too? And since she was a different race, perhaps she possessed magic that humans didn’t have?
If she could use that power, maybe she could do something. The problem was she had no idea how. Aaaagh!
In the dream, the girl had fought with a weapon that could transform into anything. If she could summon that scythe… How did she call it again?
After a moment of thought she tried, Come forth! Nothing happened.
Yabbarippira-ppi! Some nonsense chant… Her face burned with embarrassment.
Please come out! Still nothing.
While she kept wondering what to do, the goblin was already rushing straight at her.
There’s no way it would pick me out of all these people, right? By the time she thought that, it was already right in front of her nose.
This bastard! There were plenty of bigger people who looked like they had more meat on them. Why her?
Then another thought hit her. From what I know, these things like magical power. Since I possess it, I must look like good prey. Damn it.
There was nowhere left to run. Was she going to die here? After finally becoming a beautiful girl, the world felt so empty.
Just as she thought that, RadiationCutie and RiceCake blocked the goblin with PC chairs.
“Muscles, run!! Necessary!” RadiationCutie said in short, game-like bursts. RiceCake followed right after.
“Muscles, get out of here right now!”
What? Why are they suddenly stepping up for me? Were they trying to raise their favorability now that she was a pretty girl?
Too bad. No matter what they did, they wouldn’t score any points with her. As a former guy, how could she possibly like men?
While she thought that, the goblin broke through the two of them and charged at her again. What had been a bit of play earlier was now genuinely dangerous. The moment her instincts screamed that—
Enemy Detected. Eliminate.
The words flashed through her mind, and her body moved on its own. She stepped in front of the goblin that was about to kill the two men, swung, and sliced its body clean in half.
“...Huh?”
The moment she thought that, she felt something strange in her hand. When she looked down, a giant scythe roughly twice her height rested in her grip.
How is this tiny body holding it? The question didn’t even form. It simply was there.
Clearly I was… screaming in terror inside the PC bang only moments ago.
Before she knew it she was outside. She felt something vanish behind her, and when she turned, the undead goblin that had charged her had already disintegrated into dust.
Along with it came a foreign sensation. She realized it was the “corrupted magical power” that monsters possessed—the power that converted all living things into their own kind.
According to internet hearsay, magical power carried the feeling of its attribute. Fire felt warm, water felt cool. But her own magic felt like emptiness. Nothing came to mind. Every existence in this world was frail and futile.
Haa… The moment she exhaled, the surrounding air seemed to change. When she looked ahead, she saw the undead goblins. They moved so slowly they looked like trivial ants.
Come to think of it, undead goblins are weak monsters that always travel in packs.
She needed some kind of area-of-effect skill. She felt something inside her—probably magical power—and manipulated it the same way as before, creating thin threads. She linked the surrounding monsters with the threads, yanked them close, then swung the scythe in a wide arc. Their bodies split apart.
I just swung it normally, but they all died in one hit… Isn’t this an insanely broken skill?
Normally, adult men had to risk their lives or land one or two rifle shots to kill a Level 1 goblin. Yet she had ended it with a single swing.
But there were far too many enemies to handle this way.
The same energy is everywhere. It looked like dozens had been summoned here. To deal with them she needed long-range magic.
She recalled the dream where the girl with this exact appearance had used ice magic. Since she looked the same now, maybe ice-type magic would work?
But how did one use ice magic? Humans couldn’t cast spells. Since she used to be human, there was no way she knew how.
What do I do? Still, she had to do something.
Then she remembered how Daisy and Sorcia had cast their spells.
If I just copy them… will it work? Magic was incredibly difficult; there was no way simply mimicking them would succeed. But right now she had no other options.
Let’s just try. If it fails, I’ll dump every bit of magical power I feel inside me. Who knows—maybe it’ll go poof like a miracle.
She hadn’t actually expected it to work, but—
Whoaaa… The magic was working. It was really working.
An ice missile should be enough.
Sorcia had said basic attack magic was so easy even children could do it. Thinking that, she poured power into creating the beginner ice spell known as Ice Missile.
The surrounding air began to convert in response to her magic.
...What is this?
The cold that started at her fingertips spread uncontrollably. It felt like turning on a faucet only to have a fire hose explode outward. A blizzard began to rage.
Waaaait… this, this is wrong!
What she had wanted was a few ice missiles to take down the monsters in front of her! Not this!
Another roar rang out—this one from what seemed to be the strongest monster in the attack. But the roar carried pain and fear.
Seeing that, she poured in more power. The blizzard grew fiercer, freezing everything around it.
At that moment she leaped forward.
This is insane.
Her speed felt like a fighter jet. At this ridiculous velocity she was still moving without any strain. Just what was this body?
While thinking that, she spotted what appeared to be a goblin necromancer controlling the undead horde. She wasn’t a soldier or a monster expert. To ordinary people, the lowest Level 1 monsters like zombies and goblins were common, but she had no idea what rank a goblin necromancer was.
It was panicking from the blizzard and hadn’t noticed her. Now’s my chance. She didn’t miss it. She charged at full speed and passed straight through the necromancer.
Behind her, its body split into two.
She took a deep breath.
“I-it’s… it’s dead, right? It is, isn’t it? It’s not going to revive or anything, is it? If it does, that’s totally unfair!! It’s a complete bug!”
Without realizing it, a high-pitched, feminine tone had slipped out. After saying it she realized it sounded like she was acting cute, and her face burned with embarrassment.
“More importantly, it looks definitely dead… so I need to do something about this blizzard. How do I dispel it?”
As she wondered, she noticed something white trailing in front of her. When the material converted around it, she grabbed the thread and snapped it. The blizzard vanished.
Perhaps because she had used too much power, sudden dizziness hit her. It was hard to stay standing, so she leaned against the wall for a moment until the feeling passed.
“Haa… I’m tired… uuuu, I’m really tired.”
She plopped down on the ground and considered heading home, but then she shot back up.
“Ah…! The precious protein source—the beef I was supposed to feed Hunya and Daye—I still haven’t received it yet!”
The moment she remembered the most important thing, she hurriedly ran back to the store manager, RadiationCutie, to get the beef.
