Chapter: 60
Chapter Title: Civilization
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Civilization.
This turn-based strategy game, commonly known as the time machine, lets you grow your civilization from ancient times, outmaneuver other civilizations, and win by becoming the world's greatest.
Victory conditions range from domination, where you conquer all other civilizations, to science, culture, religion, and more. Players can adapt organically to their playstyle and the ever-changing situation.
Doesn't that sound fun just from the description?
It really is fun, and it's still hugely popular with series after series coming out.
Of course....
-No way fuck
-You're really doing that?
-Don't joke
-I'm down lol
-All-nighter go
As expected from a turn-based strategy sim, it can come off as a bit boring to spectators.
The flow of time feels different for the player and the viewer.
"Like, I went way too hard last stream, right? Thought I'd take it easy with a game today."
-Even then fuck lying down
-No other games today?
-You're really doing this?
-Cool
-Kya Civilization lol
As expected, opinions are a bit split.
It'll probably look fun to those who've played it before.
Whether that fun lasts, even I don't know.
"So, what difficulty should we go with?"
You have to set all sorts of options once you start.
From difficulty to resources and special events.
-God mode go
-Go play LoL even now plz..
-Fleecing ants? Abandoning us??
-Miro's an individualist
"Individualist is such an old meme. Immortal it is, then."
Immortal is just below the absolute highest god-like difficulty—extremely tough. Without my level of smarts and experience, it's unimaginable.
While setting things up, I spot stuff that wasn't in previous games.
"Secret society? Heroes? What's this?"
Was this always a thing?
Definitely not in past series.
-Vampires in secret society OP af
-Heroes good but unbalanced;
-Secret society fun
As expected from a popular game, the Civ experts pop up instantly to explain.
"Vampires? There's such a thing?"
-New addition, super fun
-Gets stronger eating units
-Slow and frustrating but rewarding to raise
"It gets stronger? No limits?"
-Yep keeps getting OP
-No limits
What? Such a thing exists?
Civilization's a proper tech game.
The fun is in steadily advancing tech to build your mighty army....
"Why have such gimmicky stuff? True power comes from science."
???
-It's a game tho;
-Just do it raise vampires
"No thanks."
Not raising that crap.
A true battlefield blooms with iron, spears, gunpowder, and guns.
No room for nonsense like vampires appearing outta nowhere.
After firmly declaring no gimmicks, I finalize settings.
-Leader who?
-Sejong go go
-Korea boring tho;
In Civilization, you pick a leader as your player character.
They get traits based on the nation's or leader's history and achievements.
"I usually go Korea, but I've done it a ton in past series... Trying something else this time."
-Played past series too?
-Masterpiece yeah
-No Korea then what?
"What? War-focused?"
Civilization means war, right?
Other stuff's appealing, but combat's the best for me.
-Gran Colombia fun
-Russia OP
-Germany?
-Japan go go
Civ masters deliver as chat suggests.
"War means this, right?"
I pick the leader.
[Germany - Frederick Barbarossa]
-Kya lololol
-Germany's science #1 in world
-?? Controversy lol
-Oof.. Germany?
"Ahem, Holy Roman Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Zero controversy."
Straight in from the start.
Internet streams got tons of haters.
I just want Germany's production power, U-boats, and strength.
After stern warnings, game starts.
"Nice land?"
-Yep perfect lol
-Wtf is what
-Not too late yet...
-Wanna tie no?
"Ahem, turns out it's got spectator appeal."
With that, I use the starting settler to build my first city.
Aachen.
The city that served as the Holy Roman Empire's capital since Charlemagne, now built anew on this land millennia ahead.
"Starts with one warrior—use it to scout roughly and build scouts."
Civilization has barbarian tribes. Mid-game you steamroll them, but early-game they're a nightmare.
So I keep a warrior garrisoned in the city, never too far—that's my style.
"Wandering like this, you'll find ruins."
An ancient ruin appears before the warrior unit. Ancient even back then, these sites hold boons for players.
"See—grab it, population +1. Good start."
-Wtf r u saying fuck
-No clue whatsoever
-Just play already
-Scout next what?
-Monument first
-Settler go go
Hmm—chat's chaotic.
But early-game jitters pass; over time, casuals drop, leaving diehards and true Civ fans.
"Settler next. Land around looks good."
Few days in, it should stabilize, right?
Game progresses.
And Civilization.
Hits my tastes harder than expected.
A stream that'd normally end in 2 hours drags to 5, 6, 7 hours past sunrise without stopping.
Even diehard viewers complain of fatigue.
[Anonymous, 1,000 won donation! Thanks!]
How long is this going? Plz... I wanna sleep...
"How long? One sec... Finish this war first."
-Fun tho no trolls
-Plz stop...
-Fr no idea what's happening
-Am I only one having fun?
-Chat slowing lol half asleep prob
-Fr dying of sleep
-Sleeping pill no cap
"Sleep through if you want."
Seriously, sleep. Even I'd nod off watching someone else play Civ for hours.
-Miro's spoon radio ㄷㄷ
-Long streams good just keep going?
-Oh pattern fucked
-Why only cavalry? Pikemen plz;
"Why pikemen. Sigh, no clue. War's blitzkrieg. Blitzkrieg—read Art of War?"
Never read it myself.
But blitzkrieg's fact, right?
-You've been at war over 100 years in-game
-Germany Japan friendly mutual destruction lol
-Huh? This total lololol
-Wtf Japan so strong? lol tanking hard
-Samurai bullshit OP lol
"Reinforcements soon."
Japan's samurai a wrinkle, but so what.
Not enough against my knight legions pouring from Germany's superior production.
"Oy island sword-swingers, fear. Knights who once ruled Europe."
-Kya lololololol
-High af
-Why so fun
-Go go lol
As I ready the knight charge....
Clunk-
Door opens, presence from soundproof booth behind.
"Huh...!"
No one home?
Burglar? Robber?
Flashback to chat mid-game.
Streets unsafe lately....
Grab desk cup for defense, turn—but presence faster.
Smack-!
"Ow!"
"Damn girl! Sun's up!"
"M-Mom?"
Why Mrs. Jang? Oh, right—coming today?
"Always holed up!"
"W-Wait!"
"Wait my ass! Came home for this? Adult now and still same kid!"
Pain second—urgent issue.
Mic...! Turn off mic!
Before disaster, lunge for mic on back desk—but too hasty?
Thud-
Elbow knocks mic off desk.
"Ah!"
"Ah my ass!"
No, no. This blows up stream.
"Mom wait! Timeout! Remember the hotel stay I sent?"
She pauses.
Hotel memories hit hard, huh.
Stun locked, I crawl under desk for mic.
"Why under desk!"
"Sec!"
Where? Dark, but mic big—found quick.
Click!
Shut off, climb out.
Out: one side Mrs. Jang's stunned face, other...
-lolololololololol
-lolololololololololololol
-MOM LMAOOOOOOOOOO
Ha.
Insane.
Why now of all times.
Face burning.
