Please Let Us Be Your Neighbors
Because of Refu’s completely backward judgment, Do Gyeong and Lee Yebin — who had only planned to film a few WGM beats and then go their separate ways — were suddenly thrown into crisis mode.
Of course, from Do Gyeong and Yebin’s perspective it was an absolute disaster, but from the viewers’ perspective it was content saving the game itself.
The most famous Dobi Couple on Peonchi right now was Do Gyeong and Lee Yebin.
They had already shown plenty of moments that felt even more like a real married couple than most real married couples, and the way they could casually roast each other while still looking out for one another every so often gave viewers both laughs and butterflies at the same time.
Before they got entangled with each other, both of them had been broadcasters whose images leaned toward two different kinds of appeal: cool and handsome on one side, cute and pretty on the other.
Do Gyeong, for all the clown energy he gave off, was fundamentally a skilled gaming broadcaster. Even pro gamers had been confident enough to say that if he’d gone pro instead of streaming, he still would’ve done well.
That was why he was so popular: he had serious gaming skill, flashy banter, and a deep, mature voice that stood in sharp contrast to the nonsense he kept spouting.
As for Yebin, her game skill was a little questionable, but she had her own appeal as a broadcaster — an image of being smart, an adorably bright voice, and the occasional dumb little slip that only made her cuter. Her banter was strong, too.
Once the two of them met, those old images shattered, and the sight of them honestly insulting each other while still taking care of each other felt like something entirely new to the viewers.
Thanks to that, there was a saying inside Peonchi: if you got involved with those two, success was basically guaranteed.
Maybe that was why the broadcasters on day one split into two major camps.
One side wanted to race ahead inside the server as fast as possible. That meant making full use of the streamer server created by Refu, and plenty of broadcasters were focusing on that route.
The other side didn’t care whether they surged ahead in the server or not. They just wanted to move into the apartment next door to the Dobi Couple.
If you became their neighbor, you’d naturally have a lot more chances to interact with them. Hell, just moving in next door and bringing over some housewarming rice cakes to say hello would be enough to create a fun scene.
The streamers who understood that started scraping together money to buy a house by any means necessary.
They wanted to ride the Dobi Couple’s coin, to squeeze every last drop out of the jackpot that was already guaranteed to moon.
Meanwhile, the actual owners of that coin were…
“Hey, why would you put the bed there!”
“What, why? You wanna make the bedroom separate?”
“We should, you psycho!”
“This is Dig Craft, you know? What the hell would we even use a separate bedroom for?!”
They were arguing over where to put the bed.
* * *
Lee Yebin really was just a game noob, no matter how you looked at it.
“Hey, game-noob Vini.”
“What is it, Do Gyeong-who’s-already-out-of-date?”
“You’ve never played Dig Craft, have you?”
“I’ve played plenty.”
“Don’t bullshit me. If you’d played plenty, I’d be a professional Dig Craft broadcaster.”
What kind of lunatic worries about a bedroom in Dig Craft and actually places the bed like that? She should just put it in some corner where it won’t bump into anything.
When I complained about that, Yebin went off like I’d set off a fire alarm.
“I’ve been saying for ages that your drawing sucks, and now your house sense is dead too? Unbelievable. Fine. When you buy a house later, just tell this older sister. I’ll pick the interior for you.”
Husband? If husband means “the other side,” then I’ll be Yebin’s husband.
Yebin’s opposing side — that’s my life’s goal. Seriously.
“Quit saying nonsense about interior design. Who the hell cares about that in Dig Craft?”
“You didn’t even check the shop earlier, did you?”
“The shop?”
Yebin dragged me over to the marketplace, and there was a merchant there I hadn’t expected at all.
A props merchant. The kind with all sorts of cute little decorations.
“This server has a props mod, too. Wouldn’t it still look kind of nice if we decorated the place with stuff like this?”
“...That costs money.”
“Hey, if you do a little mining, you make money, don’t you? Let’s decorate the place and live comfortably, okay?”
“Wouldn’t it be better to use that money for mining upgrades and make even more money instead?”
“If you came into this server, at least enjoy it a little, you gaming addict.”
There were people saying Yebin was right, but if I thought about it now, Yebin’s side actually lined up with Refu’s intentions better.
Refu had said the Refu Mountain server had a story to it, sure, but at its core it was a healing server, so everyone should just do whatever they wanted and live however they liked.
Maybe that was why the house Yebin and I had bought was priced cheap enough that selling one relic would cover it outright.
Either way, there was no denying that Yebin was playing the game more in line with Refu’s design.
So naturally I decided to deny it. I was going to twist the facts with everything I had.
“Ah, but I still absolutely can’t spend money. Why would anyone waste money on stuff like this?”
“Honey, do you want to die?”
“Honey, it’s because you’re an idiot.”
Everyone was handing Yebin the win, and I had no idea why. I was absolutely refusing to accept it.
“We still need to get the upgrades done quickly and find the relics.”
“...At this point, I think it’s already too late to talk about upgrades and whatever else.”
“Huh?”
“Think about it, DodoDodoDodo. You’re already hanging out with me like this, so there’s no way you can surge ahead now.”
“Ahem. Fact banned.”
“You stupid Dodo bird. Bird-brain Dodo.”
“What are you, chicken-head? You’re banned, asshole.”
Just play along a little, would you? This isn’t roasting anymore — it’s pure, unfiltered abuse.
There’s only one person allowed to give me that kind of treatment, and that’s Lee Yebin.
Anyway, I’m a broadcaster too, so I had to pay attention to any opinion that made sense. And right now, the opinion that Yebin was right was clearly the correct one.
Would stubbornly arguing back make the situation any more entertaining?
No. Absolutely not.
The choices in front of me were these: follow Yebin’s lead and enjoy a little slow-life nonsense by her side while continuing to roast her; share the house but stay away from her; or somehow persuade Yebin and go mining with her according to my own opinion. Those were the three options.
That second option — each of us doing our own thing while only sharing the house — was the weakest possible play for broadcasting. In the end, I had to act together with Yebin. That was the mood that had been created.
Which meant the only sensible choice left for me was to follow Yebin’s lead and enjoy a little lazy, harmless slow life together.
“...Tch, fine. Do whatever you want.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
“For real? I can just decorate however I want?”
“Just don’t decorate it like your pigsty.”
“What did you just say?”
I still had to do the roasting. No, wait — this wasn’t even roasting, it was just the truth. Her room really was pigsty-level messy.
Seriously, if the housekeeper hadn’t been around, she would’ve lived in absolute filth by herself.
Whether I said that or not, the viewers were focused on something else entirely.
They were viewers who had inferred from the word “pigsty” that I had once been inside Yebin’s room.
Fine. This was one I could play along with.
“The last time I went into your room, it was insanely messy.”
“That was because I couldn’t clean that day...!”
“So it was that messy? Dolls, books, clothes, everything just strewn all over the place?”
“S-stupid— you— you’re dirty too... Aaaah! Why is it clean, whyyy!”
For the record, I clean twice a day, every day. Once when I get up in the morning, and once before evening.
It’s not like I’m some obsessive neat freak, but when you use a computer for a long time, dust gets everywhere, so I don’t really have a choice.
“You’re the dirty one, you pig.”
“Pigs are actually pretty clean animals, you know.”
“Then that just means you’re worse than a pig.”
“Are you insane?”
“Yeah, come to think of it, pigs at least help out by being meat. You don’t even help with m...”
I almost said “tasty,” but if I’d actually said that, the viewers would’ve torn me apart like starving dogs.
Good thing I stopped myself from saying the word at all.
Of course, whether I liked it or not, that crazy bitch Yebin was…
“Do you seriously want to get torn apart that badly?”
She was sending me murderous intent with every ounce of anger she had. If she’d been standing right next to me, she probably would’ve taken a bite out of my head.
