Chapter 55: Caught Red-Handed by Mom
Chapter 55: Caught Red-Handed by Mom
The stunningly beautiful woman clearly noticed the commotion on my end.
Mom turned her Phoenix Eyes toward me, a faint smile playing on her lips. "So happy? You're even humming a tune?"
I hurried forward, taking her handbag and the food container she was carrying. I gave a sheepish grin. "Just a little bit happy. Mom, did you just get back from the Group?"
Mom nodded slightly. "Yes. I just stepped out of the elevator; haven't even made it inside yet."
She opened her mouth to say something else, but the smile that had been gracing her cheeks suddenly vanished. Her voice turned cold in an instant. "Where exactly are you coming from?"
Meeting Mom’s scrutinizing gaze, my heart tightened.
She hadn't even entered the house yet, and here we were, running into each other at the door. She would undoubtedly realize where I had been.
In this specific building unit, where else could I have gone?
Only Song Yu’s home.
Watching the smile abruptly drain from Mom’s face, I became incredibly nervous, my hands fidgeting restlessly. "No... nowhere."
"Nowhere?"
Mom questioned me with a calm expression, then suddenly let out a cold laugh. "Are you trying to tell me you rode up in the same elevator as I did?"
Knowing I couldn't find a single plausible excuse, I could only hang my head in submission.
The two of us stood before the door, falling into an eerie, heavy silence.
In the hallway, the youth and the young woman stood still. The atmosphere was stifling and oppressive.
I wanted to say something to explain myself, but I truly didn't know what to say.
After all, I had just promised Mom that I would keep my distance from Song Yu, yet here I was, caught red-handed in the blink of an eye.
After a long while, just as I was about to steal a glance at Mom’s expression, her red lips parted slightly. "Come here."
Her voice was calm, betraying no emotion.
My back stiffened. I didn't dare step forward, yet I was afraid that if I didn't listen to her, I would only make her angrier. I took a small, tentative step toward her as a response.
"You...!"
Mom seemed a bit piqued by my hesitant movement. Realizing I was being perfunctory, she took the initiative to walk toward me. The thin heels of her stilettos struck the floor tiles with a sharp, crisp clack.
Deep down, I wasn't afraid of Mom using "physical force." What I feared was her actually being angry.
After all, she had to manage the massive Chiyue Group. Her professional life was difficult because her vision differed from my Uncle's, and at home, my Father was irresponsible, staying away for years at a time. She supported everything on her own.
I saw all of Mom’s hard work. I felt for her too much, and I loved her too much.
I didn't want her to be overworked, and I certainly couldn't bear to see her upset or enraged.
That was why I had learned to cook, improved my culinary skills, and studied hard to participate in various competitions—all to please her, so she could be happy, relaxed, and comfortable at home.
Mom took another step, coming very close to me. A blend of a mature woman’s rich perfume and Mom’s own unique, delicate fragrance wafted toward me, lingering in my nose. It stirred my heart, making me feel a bit distracted.
Mom’s voice was ethereal. "Lift your head."
Obediently, I tilted my head up slightly. I stared at Mom’s perfect, flawless face, momentarily dazed.
Mom was tall and slender. Her height of 173 centimeters, combined with her high heels, allowed her to look me directly in the eye.
Her gaze was profound. She leaned her upper body slightly toward me, her Phoenix Eyes narrowing into a hauntingly beautiful look. They were like a deep pool; my gaze was inevitably sucked in, and my heart began to thud quietly.
They say the eyes are the windows to the soul. As I locked eyes with Mom, it felt as if all my filthy thoughts about her—those feelings I shouldn't have—were being seen through, leaving me with nowhere to hide.
Mom pursed her red lips and said coldly, "Your eyes are darting around. Do you have a guilty conscience?"
I gave an awkward laugh. "Not at all. It's just that Mom is too beautiful; I’m embarrassed to look."
Mom’s face remained expressionless. My attempt to provoke an emotional reaction from her had failed once again.
Another seven or eight seconds passed in silence. Just as I was wondering what was happening, Mom suddenly took another step forward, pressing her entire body almost flush against my chest.
"Mom..."
With such warm, soft beauty in my arms, I didn't understand what she was thinking or what she was doing. I was at a total loss, not even knowing where to put my hands.
"Don't talk!"
Mom’s voice was still cold. Hearing her, I immediately fell silent.
One of Mom’s arms dropped to my waist, gently wrapping around me. She tightened her grip slightly, pinning me in place so I couldn't move, nor did I dare to break away.
In the next second, Mom gently closed her eyes and slowly buried her face into my chest.
What is Mom... doing?
I looked down slightly at her cascading black hair. After a moment of hesitation, I gently wrapped my arms around her slender yet shapely waist, returning the embrace.
Mom looked up slightly, gave me a quick glance, and then lowered her head again. Her nostrils flared slightly as if she were sniffing the scent on my body.
Again...
Seeing Mom acting just as she had in the car—trying to find Chu Ning’s scent on me, and now trying to sniff out Song Yu’s—I felt an indescribable mix of emotions. While I was incredibly nervous, I also found it a bit... funny?
How could the Queen Mother, the woman who controlled the Chiyue Group, Chi Qinglan, seem a little bit... cute like this?
With her face pressed against my chest, Mom sniffed here and there. It was adorable, yet the coldness on her peerless face only grew more intense.
But as I held her, how could I see her expression?
Just as I was starting to feel a bit lightheaded from the intimacy, Mom suddenly reached out and pushed me away, breaking the embrace and taking a step back.
Her face was covered in frost. "You went to Song Yu’s house again?"
Tsk, asking when she already knows the answer.
I obediently admitted it. "I went for a little while."
A faint, cold sneer touched the corners of Mom’s mouth. "A little while? The scent on you is so strong, you must have stayed for half the day."
I protested, "I didn't... it was just a short visit, a few minutes at most."
I hadn't been there long, but our behavior had been quite intimate.
After all, I had been playing with her Jade Feet and calves, and I had spent a good while lounging on the bed in her bedroom. It was inevitable that the scent of Song Yu would be a bit strong on me.
Mom fell silent, and the atmosphere turned stiff again. After about half a minute, she suddenly turned around, opened the front door, and walked inside.
I hurried to follow, but just as I was about to enter, Mom slammed the door shut with a loud bang, locking me out.
Having nearly had my nose flattened, I rubbed it helplessly. I had to re-enter the passcode myself before I could finally get into the house.
In the living room, Mom stood before the floor-to-ceiling window. Her beautiful eyes gazed out at the bustling, young city, leaving me with only the view of her graceful, moving silhouette from behind.
I placed Mom’s handbag on the sofa. After hesitating for a long time, I gritted my teeth and slowly walked up behind her.
I had rehearsed the words in my head for a while before I spoke softly. "Mom, don't overthink it. We just chatted for a bit. Like you said, we're just being simple friends."
Mom didn't respond. After a long pause, she finally gave a soft, detached reply. "Mm. Whatever you say."
Seeing this, I couldn't help but smile bitterly in my heart.
With a reaction like that, she was clearly still angry.
If only Mom were as straightforward as my Maternal Aunt.
But no matter what was on Mom’s mind, she always buried it deep in her heart, making it impossible to peer into her soul or guess what she was thinking.
Mom walked past me, her gaze not lingering on me for even a second. Her flat voice drifted from behind her. "Dinner should be ready, right? Let's eat first."
