28. Iron ingots won't drop
"That was the tastiest bread I've had in a long time."
"Want me to make more?"
I asked Ranma, who was staring into space with a wistful look, unable to forget the taste of the bread. I'd eaten some too, but bread is bread. I felt like I was going to die of happiness now that some carbohydrates were in my system.
I want to eat lots of bread too! But the problem is how dry it makes my throat.
"Did you get many materials from the Monster Farm?"
"I only went in and out once, how could anything good have dropped? It's your turn now, so get in there."
"Alright. But what are you going to do?"
"I'm going to make bread ingredients."
I answered Ranma's question. Bread is a treasure, something you could call a gift to humanity. I really hope a Chicken Jockey spawns soon so we can get some chicken meat. Making cooked chicken isn't hard. We have a Lava Bucket, after all. If we pour it and scoop it up quickly, it should drop cooked chicken when it dies.
It looks fucking hot, so I've never touched it, but I bet it'd be fine if I did, right?
Potatoes wouldn't taste good raw, and we need a Furnace to eat baked potatoes, so I'll have to hold off on those. Carrots can be eaten raw, so it'd be nice if those dropped first, but if I had to choose between bread and apples versus carrots... that's a hard question to answer.
Still, the more the merrier, right? You can never have too many ingredients.
"Then I'll go in this time."
"Yeah. Remember what I said? Call me immediately if a Chicken Jockey spawns."
"Got it."
Ranma nodded and went back into the Monster Farm. After watching him disappear into the dark corridor for a moment, I went back to the Dirt Block I'd set up earlier and harvested the wheat. I had some Bones from the Monster Farm, so I'd be able to keep harvesting wheat from now on.
Asagi was logging nearby, watching what I was doing, then she slowly crept toward me. All my attention shifted to her. Well, I am a man, after all. Only those who have seen it know how sexy Asagi's body is. Plus, that combat suit is cheating. A full-body tights suit, seriously.
"Um...."
"Yes? Go ahead."
Asagi spoke up, looking hesitant. She also stopped at a distance from me. Every time she does that, my heart takes damage, but what can I do? She says I smell.
Asagi got straight to the point.
"Can we keep making bread?"
"Probably? If we make more Dirt Blocks and find some water, we might be able to make even more at once."
"We need to gather the materials quickly."
"Uh... right? Why?"
When I asked, Asagi got that dreamy look on her face too. Hold it, Junior! She's just making a face thinking about the taste of bread! It is absolutely not a sexy situation!
Asagi's dreamy expression was fucking hot. It was enough to make my dick hard on its own. I quickly shoved my hand into my pocket to adjust my crotch. Asagi seemed to notice and fixed her expression, looking at me. I could see her eyes trembling.
So fucking embarrassing.
"Can you make more bread?"
"That's easy."
"I'm sick of apples.... I've eaten too many. I don't even want to look at an apple anymore."
Asagi said with a straight face. Getting sick of apples after only 3 or 4 days is a bit spoiled, but I can't make Asagi suffer. She is, after all, the only woman here. Ranma turns into a girl when he touches cold water, but.... isn't his true form a man?
"I'll make sure you can eat bread every day."
"Excellent. Whoever invented bread deserves a Nobel Prize."
Asagi said happily at my words. I chuckled at Asagi's exaggeration.
"Which Nobel Prize, if I may ask?"
"The Peace Prize."
I'll give her that. I ate the bread too, and it was definitely delicious. I just wish we could find some water.
Since I'm replacing all my hydration with apples, I'm lacking water. If only it would rain once....
"Anyway, good work. I'm going back to logging."
"Take a break if you're tired."
"I'm not particularly tired. Maybe it's because I ate bread, but I feel like I have energy to spare."
"......."
So Asagi likes bread. Should I make a note of it? No, wait, bread is going to be a staple food anyway, so it might not be necessary.
As Asagi went back to logging, I sat down and harvested wheat. Ranma definitely takes a long time once he goes in. That means monsters spawn frequently. I can't stay in there for long because they don't spawn that well for me, but Ranma takes quite a while.
I made him a new Wooden Sword with better durability, so he must have killed more monsters than before.
Maybe we'll get Iron Ingots sooner than expected.
While I was busy producing wheat, I suddenly heard Asagi calling me.
"Come over here! Quickly!"
"Yes!"
"Something appeared here!"
I was startled by Asagi's voice and ran over. I should have kept my distance from Asagi, but now wasn't the time to worry about that.
Did a monster spawn!? It's morning right now!?
I rushed over and stood next to Asagi, and I saw her holding her breath with a gasp.
I was hurt.
"What's wrong!?"
"Over there.... there's something like a fox."
"A fox?"
I was surprised by Asagi's words and looked in the direction she was pointing. I saw a fox standing on a Grass Block. Did it spawn on top of a Grass Block?
But the important thing was that the fox was holding something in its mouth.
"It's holding something."
"Yeah, it is."
It was holding something with a greenish tint. I realized what it was immediately.
It's an Emerald.
How the hell does this happen? It's holding an Emerald!
Not that we have any use for it right now.
The fox was just standing there on the Grass Block. Normally, they can't jump over fences. If there was prey around, like a chicken, it would have jumped over, but there are no chickens here.
I quickly took out an apple. If a fox can hold food, and what it's holding isn't food, it will drop what it's holding and grab the food instead.
This is our chance to get an Emerald.
It would take us an enormous amount of time to get an Emerald. But we could potentially use an Emerald as early as tomorrow. Since we only have one, there's not much we can use it for, and even if we did, we'd have to use it on the best item, but getting an Emerald now is a huge windfall.
"What are you doing?"
"I have to get it to drop what it's holding and get it off the Grass Block."
I answered Asagi's question immediately. Foxes run away when they see a player; they never attack. Wild foxes can't be tamed. To tame a fox, you need at least two foxes and Sweet Berries.
Come to think of it, there's no point in taming them anyway.
If it keeps stepping on the Grass Block, it might turn into a Dirt Block. I don't remember exactly, but even if you stack Dirt Blocks on top of a Grass Block, it turns into a Dirt Block. I couldn't let this fox ruin our only Grass Block.
I ran over and threw an apple at the fox. It probably wanted to run away when it saw me coming, but the area around the Grass Block was blocked by fences, so there was nowhere for it to run.
Naturally, the fox spat out the Emerald it was holding and grabbed the apple instead. It's fucking cute. I want to keep it! But I can't!
I quickly opened the fence to let the fox escape. The fox darted through the fence door I opened, looking around for shade.
Minecraft foxes are nocturnal. During the day, when the light level is 15, they have a habit of looking for shade. Fortunately, there was a tree Asagi hadn't logged yet, so the fox quickly settled there. Then it curled up and started to sleep.
I really want to keep it. It's so cute. I have to keep it. But there's no way to keep it.
I sighed inwardly. There was no way to keep this cute creature. In fact, I have to kill it.
Foxes hunt chickens. If it were tamed, it wouldn't attack chickens, but a wild, untamed fox goes crazy when it sees animals weaker than itself, like chickens or rabbits. Foxes jump to attack when hunting, and since their jump height is about 2.5-3 blocks, they can jump over even high fences.
In other words, even if we build a fence, we can't stop that little bastard.
We can get chickens if a Chicken Jockey appears. We didn't have enough Dirt Blocks yet to hope for natural spawns of pigs or cows.
To eat chicken, we have to kill that bastard.
No, wait. Should I just build the fence higher?
If I can stop the fox from jumping over, it might work, and we have apples in abundance.
Let's do that.
I quickly picked up the brilliantly sparkling Emerald lying on the Grass Block.
Emerald get!
It's not useful right now since we only have one, but it's certain we'll have a use for it someday.
I finished my task and looked at Asagi. Asagi was watching the fox curled up under the tree she was about to log, looking at a loss. It was fucking cute how it was holding the apple.
When I approached Asagi, she asked with an uneasy look.
"What should we do with that? Should we kill it?"
Asagi, who was clearly radiating an "I don't want to kill it" vibe, looked at me with pitiful eyes and asked. I decided there was no need to kill the fox anyway, so I shook my head. We'd have to sacrifice one Oak Tree, but it didn't seem like we needed to kill the fox right now.
It would be best to keep it locked up somewhere until a Chicken Jockey appears and we get chickens.
We need to lure chickens with Wheat Seeds and put them in a coop, and if this bastard attacks them then, it'll be a disaster.
"Let's not kill it."
I said. Asagi's face lit up with a smile at my words. Asagi is so pretty too. It breaks my heart that we're keeping our distance, though.
"But we still have to put it in a fence. We need to stack it at least 3 blocks high so it can't jump over."
I told her. Once we build that and lock it up, and throw it a few apples, it'll do just fine on its own. No, wait, it's a wild animal, could it despawn?
I decided to cross that bridge when I came to it.
If having a fox around lowers our stress levels, that's a good thing.
And there's another harvest. We figured out what biome we're in.
Taiga biome.
There's no snow, so it's not a Snowy Taiga biome. Still, it's surprising that it's actually livable, considering it boasts a northern climate.
It's not that cold.
But once we're done with everything we need to do here, we might have to use a Bridge to move to another area.
There are plenty of biomes better to live in than the Taiga.
