27. Iron ingots won't drop
27. Iron ingots won't drop
Ranma and I entered the Monster Farm. First off, I had to teach him how to hunt in the Monster Farm. He could just mindlessly swing his sword, but I still needed to go in with him and teach him a thing or two so he wouldn't have any complaints.
"Just swing your sword at their legs when you see them on your way. They won't attack you, so don't worry. There's just one thing you have to keep in mind."
"What is it?"
"Every once in a while, a baby zombie will appear riding a chicken. Don't kill that one."
"Ugh. A baby zombie?"
Ranma made a disgusted face at my explanation. But I was serious. A Chicken Jockey.
Our daily bread. It's the only mob that can give us cooked chicken. If a Chicken Jockey appears, I'll have to lure it and ask Asagi to kill it.
"Got it? Go to the end, touch it, come back, and we'll swap."
"Got it. It's surprisingly simple."
Ranma nodded at my words. Simple, you think? Wait until you see the drop rate of Iron Ingots; you'll feel like you're losing your mind.
I shivered to myself thinking about it.
How long will it take? Wouldn't it take at least a month?
It's desperate that I have to shower in rainwater until then.
The only fortunate thing is, perhaps as a courtesy, I don't feel the urge to pee often, and I don't even feel like taking a dump yet.
I don't know if it's because I'm nervous and it won't come out, or if my body has changed so I can't poop. Even when I joined the military, I couldn't poop for a week at the training camp.
I didn't know I'd go a week without feeling the urge to poop.
There are many things I need to get from this Monster Farm. I hope Witches spawn often; Witches drop Redstone, Glowstone dust, sometimes potions, and they also give glass bottles. They are truly generous mobs because they give a lot of items that are hard to find in Sky Block.
And from zombies, I need carrots, potatoes, and Iron Ingots. If I'm preparing for the future, it would be good to have plenty of rotten flesh too, but since I can build a better Monster Farm than this one once I collect all the Iron Ingots, it's whatever.
There's almost nothing to throw away from Skeletons. Bows, arrows, and bone meal are items that allow us to farm even without water, so it's best to take as much as possible. I got a few bones from the last hunt, but the amount is insufficient. I need more bone meal!
Right now, the Creeper is the most useless. It's the most dangerous, yet the most useless bastard.
It would have been fine if I could at least make TNT, but there's no way to get sand right now. Even if I get it later, I can't use it that much, so I figured there would be almost no days where I could make and use TNT.
"Got it? Start from now. I'll go out and stay a bit away, that way the monster spawn rate goes up."
"Got it."
Originally, I thought about swapping every hour, but no. It's incredibly dark in there, and if we were in a situation where we had to swap every hour, I don't know about Ranma, but I would definitely go insane. I hate the dark, and on top of that, I have to keep killing monsters.
I gave Ranma a fighting pose and came outside. In the meantime, Asagi was already logging her 4th oak tree. The materials scattered messily on the ground were annoying.
"Asagi-ssi? Can I go over there?"
"Hm? Understood. I'll step aside for a moment."
I shouted to ask Asagi, and while she stepped aside, I quickly went over and looted the oak logs. Why didn't I realize until now that it's easier for both of us if I just talk like this, since she hates my smell?
While I was at it, I planted new oak saplings in the dirt blocks where Asagi had logged, and I left the oak field. For Asagi, who was waiting far away, I placed 3 apples where I had been standing and left.
I could see Asagi nodding her head after seeing me do that. She was thankful.
"You don't need to work too hard. I don't know how much longer we'll have to live in this state."
"But isn't it better to have more materials?"
"That's true, but here, it's possible to recover 100% of the materials even if you make a mistake."
If you place a block wrong, you can just break it. Except for things like glass, most blocks can be re-acquired as they are when broken. The time will come when we need to build wider later, but once we can acquire cobblestone blocks, we'll have to change the floor material, so there's no need to build wide right now.
I was tired of talking to Asagi as if shouting from afar, so I just said what I needed to say and turned away. There were a few things I had to do before Ranma came back, and I thought it would be fine to prepare them little by little while swapping. I had to make fences and fence gates, and I also had to acquire wheat seeds using the one remaining grass block.
If a Chicken Jockey appears, I'll make a chicken coop to raise chickens.
I took the necessary materials from the chest, turned all the bones into bone meal, made fences and fence gates, and put them in my inventory. I also made a wooden hoe.
First, I made a 5m x 5m fence, went to the grass block that was blocked off by grass fences, and sprinkled bone meal on it. Green light swirled, and grass grew.
I could see Asagi, who was logging oak trees, looking surprised at the sight.
I must cherish the grass block. It's a block that must be treated preciously. The moment this just becomes a dirt block, we're in big trouble.
Therefore, I only cut the grass that grew from the bone meal until I acquired one wheat seed. Fortunately, I was able to get a wheat seed on the 2nd try.
After acquiring the wheat seeds, I deliberately tilled the dirt block where I hadn't planted an oak sapling with the wooden hoe. A dirt block tilled into a shape similar to a field was created. If this were near water, it would be wet, but since there's no water right now, it's a dry dirt block.
It doesn't matter anyway if I have bone meal.
I planted the wheat seeds and sprinkled bone meal on top of them again. I hadn't acquired many bones from the Monster Farm yet, so I didn't have much bone meal, but it didn't matter. My goal is to multiply the wheat seeds, so after harvesting wheat 9 times, I had no bone meal left. The seeds had multiplied to 19.
This much should be enough.
I also got 9 wheat. I can make a special meal today.
To think bread is a special meal.
Fuck.
When I finished the series of processes, Ranma came out of the Monster Farm. His wooden sword was on the verge of breaking. Its durability looked like it was about to run out.
"Are you back?"
"Yeah. I touched the end, but the wooden sword looked like it was going to break on the way out, so I passed on the rest."
Ranma said that with an apologetic expression. I shook my head. Even doing this much is a huge help.
If I had been dropped alone, assuming survival was possible, I would have had to do everything by myself. I might have been playing Robinson Crusoe here.
"Good job. I'll go in now. Eat this first."
I handed Ranma one of the 3 breads I had made in advance, along with an apple. 3 days? 4 days? It must be the first time he's seeing bread here. Naturally, Ranma was startled.
"Bread?"
"We'll be able to make and eat as much as we want now."
Since we can safely catch skeletons in the Monster Farm, getting bone meal is easy now. The supply of materials will get easier and easier.
Although it's obvious that getting essential materials will be a pain in the ass.
"This is for Asagi-ssi. I'm going in now."
"Yeah! Asagi-ssi!"
Ranma nodded at my words, took Asagi's share of bread, and ran to Asagi in high spirits. I crafted 3 wooden swords and put them in my inventory. It's not that I can only hold one like Ranma; I can hold up to 30 wooden swords. If I put everything else in the inventory into the chest, that is.
There's no need to do that, so 3 swords should be enough to go to the end and back.
I kept my tension up and entered the Monster Farm. A dark, gloomy corridor appeared. I know that monsters don't spawn in the corridor I walk in due to Y-coordinate tricks, but I couldn't help but feel anxious.
Fuck, baby zombies can't pass through half-blocks, right?
If they can pass through, I'm a dead man. I don't know how to fight. I know that baby zombies can pass through a 1-block height, but I know they can't pass through half-blocks.
Please let my thinking be right.
I, a normal person, walked along the corridor, trembling. The byproducts of the monsters Ranma killed could be seen through the gaps. I quickly looted them and put them in my inventory, and occasionally kicked the shins of the monsters I saw with my wooden sword to kill them.
I hate this feeling so much!
The sensation of the wooden sword hitting their shins was transmitted to my hand, and it felt disgusting.
As expected, I'm just a normal South Korean who loves peace. Swords don't suit me.
How about we fuck instead of fighting?
I couldn't fuck a zombie or a skeleton, but that thought suddenly crossed my mind.
The fortunate thing is that because I am a player, monsters don't spawn within a 24m radius of me. It's a sorry thing to say to Ranma, but the monsters I caught didn't even reach half of what Ranma caught. The amount of byproducts I acquired showed that.
When I returned after touching the wall of the corridor, I had gathered 11 bones, 2 bows with almost no durability left, and 13 arrows. Carrots, potatoes, and Iron Ingots naturally didn't drop, and only rotten flesh came out.
I'll save the rotten flesh in the chest to use for trading when villagers appear later.
Gunpowder is a dilemma. I got 6, but I had no use for it right now.
It looked easy to collect later, so it seemed better to just throw it away.
It took about 30 minutes to come out of the Monster Farm like that.
Ranma and Asagi, who were waiting for me to come out, had bright expressions on their faces—maybe because of the bread they tasted for the first time in a while, or maybe because they were glad I was safe—when I came out unharmed.
