Chapter 34 Leaving Yuna
Chapter 34 Leaving Yuna
I smiled and asked, “Since you decided to come with me, are you ready to depart?”
The silver wolf head nodded excitedly. “Yeah, the sooner the better!”
I thought for a moment. “If you want to come with me, you’ll have to give me your names. I can’t call you ‘Wolf God’ every time I need to talk to you… Wait… Do you even have your own names?”
The two wolf heads looked at each other blankly and shook their heads simultaneously.
The golden wolf head said, “Our twin-headed wolf lineage is passed down from one of the parents to the firstborn child. But ever since our clan was exterminated, we haven’t had anyone to marry, and no one ever gave us names.”
I looked at their beautiful fur. “Since that’s the case, I’ll name the two of you. It will make it easier for us to communicate. From this day forward, if I say Wolf God, I mean both of you. If I say Jin Langtou, I mean you.” I pointed at the golden wolf head. “And when I say Yin Langtou, I mean you.” I pointed at the silver wolf head.
The Wolf God’s four eyes spun as they mulled over the names.
Yin Langtou said, “Although they’re a little… tacky, we’ll accept them.”
Jin Langtou laughed heartily. “It doesn’t matter what we’re called, as long as we get to play.”
Jin Langtou seemed even more playful than Yin Langtou.
I nodded. “Well then, Wolf God, quickly settle things here. Then we’ll leave this place as soon as possible.”
Although they didn’t show it, they were even more eager to leave this place than I was.
Jin Langtou shouted, “Yin Jian, come in.”
A silver streak flashed inside, and Yin Jian’s nimble figure entered from outside. He greeted Wolf God with extreme respect.
“Lord Wolf God, what are your instructions?”
The golden wolf head glanced at me and said in a deep voice, “Immediately summon all the werewolf elders to the temple. We have an important matter to announce. It concerns the fate of our werewolf tribe, so you must hurry.”
Yin Jian’s body quaked. He raised his head in confusion and looked at Wolf God, the Wolf God, before glancing at me.
Yin Langtou said with slight impatience, “Shouldn’t you be leaving already?”
Yin Jian bowed again respectfully. “Yes, my lord. I will leave immediately.”
As soon as he finished speaking, he turned and ran out.
I lowered my voice. “Since you’ve summoned the werewolf elders, we must discuss this properly beforehand. Your reasoning must not have any flaws.”
Both Jin Langtou and Yin Langtou agreed. It was obvious that the elders wanted to keep Wolf God there out of their “care and concern.” Even the Wolf God felt pressure from the elders’ authority.
Wolf God brought me to the back of the temple where their bedroom was located. The place was decorated very gorgeously. The murals on the walls were embedded with all kinds of rare minerals. The stonework texture was exquisite, and the floor was covered with a long-fur carpet made of unknown material.
But what surprised me most was that more than half the room was occupied by an enormous bed.
These guys couldn’t have spent their entire day sleeping, could they?
Jin Langtou said proudly, “How is it? Our room looks beautiful, right?”
Yin Langtou glared at Jin Langtou. “Stop showing off shamelessly. Lei Xiang is right. We must discuss this properly and unify what we’re going to say. Whether or not we can break away from this cage will depend on whether we can convince those old men to let us leave.”
As for persuading the werewolf elders, I felt just as nervous.
Only by convincing them could I truly bring Yuna Territory under the banner of the Beast God religion. And Wolf God was the most favorable instrument to influence them.
Wolf God… if I want to spread the Beast God religion throughout the entire Beastmen Kingdom as quickly as possible, I have no choice but to use you.
Thus Wolf God and I discussed the speech we would use to persuade the werewolf elders of Yuna Territory.
…
Beastmen Imperial City, Behemoth King’s Mansion:
Kacha—hong!
Lei Hu, who had just returned from the front lines, crushed a wall in his room into pieces while choking his butler with his other hand. His glare was so intense that his eyes seemed about to burst from their sockets.
A command squeezed out through his clenched teeth.
“Say it again. Who killed my mother?”
Lei Hu had already recovered from the injuries I dealt him thanks to his powerful Behemoth physique.
The white fox butler’s face had turned bright red. His hands clawed desperately at Lei Hu’s massive grip as he squeaked helplessly, unable to speak.
Lei Hu waved his arm and flung the butler aside.
“Say it.”
The white fox butler clutched his throat and coughed repeatedly. His eyes were filled with terror.
“Second Young Master… it was Third Young Master who killed the First Lady.”
Lei Hu roared furiously toward the sky.
Yellow energy from the Heavenly Thunder Armor Technique surged around his body.
A violent burst of fists blasted the white fox butler into pieces. Blood and flesh splattered everywhere, and the stench of blood filled the entire room.
He roared continuously while smashing everything around him.
“Lei Xiang, you hybrid! How dare you kill my mother! I will tear you into millions of pieces!”
The once-sturdy room could no longer withstand his destructive power. With a thunderous crash, it collapsed.
From outside the Behemoth King’s Mansion, smoke could clearly be seen rising from the prince’s quarters.
Lei Hu crawled out from the ruins. The surrounding servants were so terrified that they had long since fled without a trace.
Since he couldn’t find anyone to vent his anger on, his fist headed straight for the courtyard wall.
At that moment, a gigantic figure blocked his path and forcibly deflected his furious strike.
Hong!
Lei Hu’s body was blasted backward into the ruins by the opponent’s powerful energy.
The imposing figure of Lei Ao appeared before him.
“Your injuries just healed. What are you doing here throwing a tantrum? Do you want to tear down my mansion?”
Seeing the father he always feared, Lei Hu restrained a bit of his rage.
“Father! That hybrid Lei Xiang—he killed my mother! You must help me!”
Lei Ao’s expression remained unusually calm.
“I’ve known for a while. So what? And I already ordered long ago that no one is allowed to call Lei Xiang a hybrid. Do you treat my words as nothing?”
A calm yet oppressive aura emanated from the Behemoth King, instantly suppressing Lei Hu’s fury.
Lei Hu shouted, “I don’t care who he is! He killed my mother! I will tear his corpse into millions of pieces!”
Lei Ao said coldly, “Your mother brought it upon herself. Who told her to provoke your brother? Did she have nothing better to do? She’s dead, so be it.”
“You’d better behave yourself. I’m already irritated after losing the war. If you provoke me again, don’t blame me for being harsh.”
Lei Hu’s anger flared again.
“So we just let it go like this? He killed my mother—your wife!”
Lei Ao frowned.
“There are plenty of women in this city. Stop throwing tantrums. If you want revenge on Lei Xiang, do it with your own strength. If I hadn’t protected you last time, you wouldn’t even have the chance to shout here.”
“I gave you countless advantages—passed down the Heavenly Thunder Armor Technique to you and even promised to make you my successor. Yet you squandered it all. You only know how to fight recklessly and never improve.”
“You can only blame your own complacency for failing to surpass him. As a warrior, you can only rely on yourself.”
He paused.
“But I must warn you—do not provoke Lei Xiang right now. His Majesty has taken a special interest in him. When I returned, His Majesty personally ordered me not to make things difficult for him under any circumstances.”
Lei Hu’s fists clenched so tightly that the veins bulged across his hands. His eyes burned with rage.
“Well then, Lei Xiang… you’d better wait. One day I’ll make you taste death.”
Lei Ao replied calmly, “Remember what I said. If you want revenge, rely on yourself. Train harder.”
“As you are now, you are no match for him.”
“And if I ever see you destroying this mansion again, I’ll throw you out.”
After finishing his lecture, Lei Ao turned and left.
It seemed the Behemoth King’s Mansion would need renovation.
…
Yuna Territory, Wolf God Temple:
I smiled slightly and said to Wolf God, “Alright. Let’s begin.”
Jin Langtou said excitedly, “I can’t imagine those old geezers refusing!”
Yin Langtou reminded him, “Be careful. Later you must not reveal any flaws in our reasoning. We only have one chance. If they notice anything suspicious, it will be difficult for us to escape.”
“Report!”
Yin Jian’s voice came from outside.
Yin Langtou glanced at me.
Jin Langtou said, “Come in.”
A silver streak flashed inside as Yin Jian knelt at the entrance.
“Report, Lord Wolf God. The tribal elders have gathered at the temple and await your instructions.”
Yin Langtou replied, “Go ahead first. We’ll arrive shortly.”
“Yes.”
Wolf God’s gaze looked somewhat uneasy.
I gave them an encouraging nod.
“This is unavoidable. Whether you regain your freedom depends on you.”
It also determined whether I could move forward with unifying the Beastmen under the Beast God religion.
I followed Wolf God to the temple.
The sight there truly surprised me.
More than a hundred werewolves stood in the center of the temple. Most had grizzled beards, and nearly two-thirds leaned on crutches.
No wonder Wolf God felt intimidated.
Even I would feel uneasy facing a group of stubborn old men who refused to die quietly.
An aged voice echoed through the temple.
“We pay our respects to Lord Wolf God.”
All the werewolf elders bowed together.
Jin Langtou cleared his throat.
“Elders, rise. Yin Jian, let the elders sit.”
Wolf God returned to his seat, and I sat beside him.
If no one allowed these swaying elders to sit, I feared many of them would collapse.
I really don’t understand why these old men insist on clinging to authority. Why not go home and retire peacefully?
After the elders sat down, I felt their gazes.
Some were vigilant or openly hostile, while others were curious. But none dared question anything in Wolf God’s presence.
Jin Langtou spoke again.
“This time I summoned all of you elders to announce several matters. Before making the announcement, I want to thank all of you for more than ten years of hospitality.”
Before Wolf God could continue, a silver-furred werewolf sitting in the very front stood up with the support of his crutches. After coughing twice, he spoke.
“Lord Wolf God, we are all your people. Serving you is our duty. Are you planning to raise the topic of leaving again? Without your leadership, our werewolf tribe will fall back into those terrible dark times. I urge you to think carefully.”
Impressive.
Before Wolf God could even raise the issue, he blocked the subject by invoking the tribe’s duty.
Yin Langtou used qi to communicate with me silently.
“This old man is the First Elder of the werewolf tribe. Before we arrived, he held the greatest authority. He is also Yin Jian’s grandfather.”
Jin Langtou smiled awkwardly.
“Elder Yin Sun, there are several announcements we must make today that will benefit the werewolf tribe. But before I continue, please sit down.”
Truly a family.
A sinister grandfather and a reckless grandson.
Yin Sun looked at Wolf God suspiciously, coughed again, and slowly sat down.
On his left sat a silver-furred werewolf who looked relatively young compared to the others.
He said excitedly, “Lord Wolf God, please instruct us.”
Yin Langtou again transmitted his voice through qi.
“This is the current leader of the werewolf tribe and Yin Jian’s elder brother—Yin Mao.”
As I listened, I became increasingly puzzled.
Why are all the high-ranking members of the werewolf tribe from the Yin Jian family?
Jin Langtou swept his gaze across the elders before him and said in a deep voice,
“The first thing I will announce is this: from today onward, all werewolves within Yuna Territory will join the Beast God religion.”
The statement struck like a bolt of thunder.
Every werewolf elder present was stunned.
Yin Sun stood up again, trembling slightly.
“Lord Wolf God… this Beast God religion—”
Jin Langtou raised his hand to stop him.
“All elders know that the most influential deity among the Beastmen is the Beast God. Without the Beast God, the Beastmen of today would not exist.”
“The Beast God religion was established under the command of the Beast God himself. Its purpose is to help our people become the greatest race on this continent.”
The elders immediately began whispering among themselves.
It was obvious that many of them opposed the declaration.
Jin Langtou took a quick glance at me. I signaled for him to follow our plan.
Jin Langtou cleared his throat. “Please be silent. I would like to ask all of you a question. Yin Mao, since you are the tribe leader, will you answer this question?”
Yin Mao immediately stood and bowed. “Please ask.”
Jin Langtou’s eyes sharpened as he stared at him solemnly. “I want to ask you this: was my arrival to Yuna Territory beneficial to the tribe?”
Plop!
Yin Mao knelt on the floor. With extreme sincerity, he said, “Lord Wolf God, what you have bestowed upon us cannot be described with the word ‘beneficial’ alone. If you had not led us to develop our production and taught us knowledge, I fear Yuna Territory would still be the weakest tribe among the Beastmen right now. We might even have been invaded by our neighbors. That is why we are unwilling to believe in any Beast God. In our hearts, you are our only true god.”
By the end of his speech, Yin Mao’s voice trembled with emotion. It was clear that he was deeply grateful to Wolf God. Wolf God’s eyes flashed with joy and relief, as their many years of effort had not been in vain.
All the elders present followed Yin Mao and knelt down.
Yin Sun said, “Lord Wolf God, were we lacking in any way? If so, please tell us. We will do our very best to correct it.”
Jin Langtou shook his head slightly and stood from his seat. “Please sit, elders. I only asked whether we were beneficial, nothing more.”
He looked at the puzzled elders and said flatly, “The reason I asked that question is because I must reveal my true identity. I am one of the Beast God’s people. It was the Beast God who sent me here to guide and assist you. Therefore, you should not thank me—you should thank the Beast God. Without him, the Yuna Territory you see today would not exist. The Beast God has never forgotten his children.”
I stood up. “That is correct. What the Wolf God said is the truth. The Beast God has never forgotten us, his children. If you did not realize it, your Wolf God is one of the twelve gods of the Beast God religion.”
Yin Sun’s eyes flashed sharply. He scanned me up and down.
“You are clearly a human. Why do you call yourself a child of the Beast God?”
Wolf God walked to my side. “Allow me to introduce him. This is the Vice Pope of the Beast God religion. He is not human, but a mixed-blood of human and Beastman. In his body flows the blood of the strongest Beastmen race, the Behemoth clan. This time he came to Yuna Territory to verify whether I had successfully completed my mission.”
Yin Mao said worriedly, “Successful? Of course his work was successful, Lord Vice Pope. Just look at the living standards of us werewolves and you will see how devoted our Wolf God has been to us.”
Good. They’re accepting the Beast God religion without even realizing it.
I smiled. “Yes, the Wolf God has done very well. In a little more than ten years, he led you to develop this territory. However, he has also made one grievous mistake.”
As I said this, Wolf God lowered their heads in shame.
Yin Mao suppressed his anger and said unconvinced, “What has the Wolf God done wrong? Did the Vice Pope not see the prosperous condition of Yuna Territory?”
I replied calmly, “Please calm down, elder. The Wolf God already said that he is one of the twelve oracles of the Beast God religion. These twelve oracles are the core of our religion. Their mission is to help the Beastmen grow stronger and unite the entire Beastmen Kingdom into the most powerful force on this continent.”
“The Wolf God’s mistake is that he was too devoted to his own land. He only developed Yuna Territory.”
“You should know the conditions of the neighboring territories. Although they are not starving, they are far from prosperous or happy.”
“The werewolf tribe is part of the Beastmen family. You strengthened your own territory while ignoring the rest of the Beastmen world. How can you watch your Beastmen brothers live in suffering?”
“The Beast God decrees that all Beastmen should grow together. Therefore, from today onward, you must help your neighbors who live in poverty and allow them to experience the same prosperity you enjoy.”
Yin Sun looked at me suspiciously. “Help them? What benefit does the werewolf tribe gain from helping others?”
I sighed and did not answer.
Jin Langtou said, “Elder Yin Sun, I once had the same thought. ‘What benefit do we gain from helping other tribes?’ But that way of thinking was my greatest mistake.”
“You should know that in the last war we suffered another crushing defeat. Why did that happen? Because our army’s cohesion and combat strength were extremely weak. This was due both to our lack of resources and the restrictions imposed by the Demon Race.”
“Tell me—can the werewolf tribe alone contend with the Dragon God Empire and the Demon Race?”
“No.”
“Only by strengthening the entire Beastmen Kingdom can our long-term development improve. The Beastmen Kingdom is my home. If we cannot even protect the home we share, what is the point of discussing our own future development?”
Every elder present was moved by Jin Langtou’s speech.
“Lord Wolf God, then what should we do? Should we distribute our stored food to the other tribes?” Yin Sun asked.
I smiled slightly. “I will answer that for the Wolf God. What you need to do is not distribute food, but share your seeds and teach them how to farm.”
“Of course, before their first harvest you must provide them with food. But after the harvest, you can reclaim everything with interest.”
“In this way, life in Yuna Territory will not be affected, and the other tribes will also be helped thoroughly. What do the elders think?”
For the first time, a satisfied smile appeared on Yin Sun’s face.
“This is a good method. I agree with it. Some of our neighboring territories once asked to learn farming from us, but in the past…” He paused. “Leave this matter to us. We will certainly spread the glorious name of the Wolf God throughout the Beastmen race.”
Jin Langtou frowned. “No. You must spread the will of the Beast God.”
“Let every Beastman know that there is only one true god—the Beast God. Only through his care can we grow stronger.”
“Every tribe must worship the Beast God as their highest totem, and every Beastman must become a faithful believer of the Beast God religion.”
All the elders spoke respectfully at once.
“We obey the command of the Wolf God. We pledge our lives in loyalty and devotion to the Beast God until death.”
Wolf God and I exchanged smiles.
The first goal had been achieved. The next step was to get Wolf God out of here.
I said, “Respected elders, because of the mistake the Wolf God made, I must take him to the Beast God so he may receive punishment.”
Yin Mao exclaimed in shock, “What? Punish the Wolf God? Lord Vice Pope, you must not do that. Without the Wolf God, we would never have what we have today. You must not take him away.”
Looking at the old wolves kneeling before me, I spoke in a deep voice.
“This is the law of the Beast God. No one can change it. Mistakes must be punished.”
“But…”
Yin Mao quickly asked, “But what?”
“But if you obey the decree of the Beast God and carry out what I have said, then the Beast God will certainly grant the Wolf God a lighter punishment.”
“The better you perform and the more Beastmen you help, the lighter the Wolf God’s punishment will be.”
Yin Sun quickly said, “We will. We certainly will. But Lord Vice Pope, could you please not take the Wolf God away? Without his leadership, we werewolves will lose our direction.”
Jin Langtou and Yin Langtou silently cursed him. Every time they tried to leave, it was this old man who stopped them.
Yin Langtou, who had remained silent until now, finally spoke.
“Yin Sun, we understand your concern for us. But if someone makes a mistake, they must face punishment. As members of the werewolf tribe, we must confront it bravely.”
“You can rest assured. I will be fine. After some time, the Beast God will send other emissaries to assist you.”
I quickly added, “The Wolf God’s mistake is not unforgivable. After he atones for his errors, he will return as soon as possible.”
Yin Mao said respectfully, “Lord Vice Pope, then please speak well of our Wolf God before the Beast God. The werewolf tribe will be forever grateful.”
Wolf God suppressed the excitement in their hearts.
Jin Langtou said, “Do not worry. The Vice Pope and I are very good friends. He will certainly speak on my behalf before the Beast God.”
For the sake of leaving this place, these two have already promoted me to ‘very good friend.’
In any case, the conditions had been set. The Wolf God announced a series of reforms and clearly arranged the future development of the werewolf tribe.
Wolf God truly deserved to have two brains. This fellow was far more intelligent than most humans.
Every policy he proposed received unanimous approval from the elders.
Jin Langtou said, “Then we will trouble you elders with these matters. If you carry out our orders, the werewolf tribe will certainly become the strongest among the Beastmen races. Tomorrow I will quietly depart with the Vice Pope’s group.”
A trace of sadness appeared in Jin Langtou’s voice. After all, he had lived here for more than ten years. It was impossible not to feel attached.
Every elder stood up at the same time. Following Yin Sun and Yin Mao, they knelt down and kowtowed three times.
“Please take care, Lord Wolf God.”
Wolf God’s eyes shimmered with tears as they walked toward Yin Sun and Yin Mao, supporting the grandfather with one hand and the grandson with the other.
“Elder, Tribe Leader. While we are gone, the werewolf tribe will be entrusted to your care.”
Tears rolled down Yin Sun’s face.
“Lord Wolf God, please return soon. We will miss you.”
Wolf God hugged Yin Sun tightly. Yin Langtou cried bitterly while Jin Langtou sighed.
Watching this scene, I questioned for the first time whether persuading the Wolf God to leave his home had been the wrong decision.
But the thought quickly passed.
After sending the elders away, I patted Wolf God on the shoulder.
“It is still not too late for you to go back.”
Wolf God spun around abruptly. Both heads spoke at the same time.
“Ah! We are free! Regret? We will never regret it. We can always visit later.”
Good grief. Their love of play outweighs everything else.
I said helplessly, “Then shouldn’t you start packing your things?”
A flash of golden and silver light appeared, and they disappeared from sight.
I shook my head and followed them. When I entered their room, chaos had already erupted. Clothes were flying everywhere, and the entire room was a complete mess.
One moment Jin Langtou wanted to take this. The next moment Yin Langtou wanted to take that. They were extremely excited.
I laughed. “Just take what you truly need. Anything more will only become a burden.”
While packing, Jin Langtou said, “We made such a great sacrifice for you. How will you repay us?”
“Repay you? Do I have to? Aren’t you also achieving your goal of going out to play? How about this—when we visit the Demon Race someday, I’ll find you a beauty with an absolutely stunning figure.”
As I said that, Mi You’s exquisite figure and beautiful face appeared in my mind, and my heart skipped a beat.
Yin Langtou suddenly roared, “No! You dare?! If you bring a demon beauty, I will tear her to pieces!”
I was stunned.
Jin Langtou turned around helplessly. “What’s wrong, Yin Langtou? You don’t like beauties?”
Yin Langtou suddenly lowered her head shyly. “Isn’t… there already a beauty right here?”
I did not know whether to laugh or cry.
“What? Both of you are female?”
Jin Langtou sighed. “No. Only she is female. I am male. We are hermaphrodites.”
Hermaphrodites?
I had never heard of such a thing. My curiosity was immediately sparked.
“What is a hermaphrodite?”
Jin Langtou explained, “Twin-headed wolves are hermaphrodites. The golden head is male, and the silver head is female. After reaching a certain age, we can reproduce by self-copulation and give birth to the next generation.”
I asked foolishly, “Self-copulation… how do you even mate with one body?”
A flash of gold and silver light burst out.
Before I could react, I was blasted across the room. Fortunately, the walls were sturdy.
Yin Langtou’s furious voice echoed behind me.
“How dare you ask such a question!”
Jin Langtou sighed. “That wasn’t me. That was her.”
I rubbed my aching chest and stood up.
“I’m sorry, Yin Langtou. That was my mistake. I was just too surprised.”
Yin Langtou’s expression softened slightly.
“Do not ask that question again.”
“Yes, Miss Yin Langtou. So at what age can you give birth?”
“You asked again?!”
Gold and silver light flashed again. Even though I had prepared this time, without transforming my strength was no match for theirs, and I was sent flying again.
Jin Langtou’s voice drifted over.
“I’m not entirely sure either. Probably at least two hundred years old. So you probably won’t live long enough to see it. Yin Langtou, don’t be so angry. We still need him if we want to go out and play.”
Yin Langtou snapped back angrily. “Are you even a man? He’s bullying me and you won’t even help me!”
Jin Langtou said helplessly, “He was just asking a question. He didn’t actually do anything to you.”
Yin Langtou glared at him. “What do you mean he didn’t do anything to me? Are you waiting for him to do something before you react? Baka!”
I walked back over, frowning slightly.
Watching them argue was strangely amusing. Jin Langtou looked completely helpless while Yin Langtou turned her head aside, pretending to be angry.
Their hermaphroditic body was interesting. No matter how much they argued, they could never separate.
Interesting.
“Alright, alright. Stop arguing. Finish packing quickly. Didn’t you want to leave as soon as possible?”
