Foosha Village and the Spar (Revised)
The next morning...
I woke up from the bed, took a deep drag of my cigarette, and turned on the stream. The title read: One Piece Trip Day 2.
—Hey
—Jin-ha!
—Jin-ha!
—What are we doing today??
—I checked the community!
The moment the stream turned on, a flood of viewers poured in. The count had already shot past eight thousand.
“What the—looks like the promo actually worked. Hello everyone, this is streamer Woojin on day two of the One Piece trip.”
—For real??
—I told you I saw it yesterday
—If it’s real show us Luffy
—I wanna see Nami
“Alright, alright! Don’t start off like that. Luffy’s probably still sleeping. It’s six in the evening back in reality, right? It’s morning here.”
—Huh? What does that mean? Morning??
—???
“Ah! I forgot to explain. When I turn the stream off, no matter how much time passes here, time doesn’t move in reality. But the moment I turn it back on, it always syncs to the next day at six p.m. in real-world time.”
—So if the streamer turns it off, we’re just frozen?? That’s kinda scary
—Wait, if turning it off skips to the next day, what if you accidentally end the stream in the middle of a fight? We’re screwed??
“Come on~ Even though time stops here, I’m not planning to live here for a thousand years. And even if I die here, I just get sent back to reality, so don’t worry. Plus, if I turn the stream back on within twenty-four hours, I get to choose whether to continue the same day or jump to the next. So no problems.”
—Whew, that’s a relief lol
—So what are we doing now?
“I raised my stats all the way to A yesterday, so I want to get used to my body first. Then I’ll ask the village chief how to buy a ship. I definitely don’t want to set sail on a little dinghy like Luffy did.”
—Luffy only survived because he’s the main character
—Otherwise he would’ve died right away lololol
“For now, let’s head up the mountain and loosen up a bit. If there are any wild beasts, I’ll fight them.”
I answered the viewers’ questions as I slowly made my way into the mountains. After walking deep into the forest, a loud thud, thud echoed, and an animal that looked like a wild boar appeared.
“That thing could probably take out kid Luffy or Ace, so it’s actually pretty weak. But since this is my first real fight, I’ll give it a go!”
The boar was watching me warily. I rolled my shoulders to loosen up, then slowly approached it.
Thud thud thud!
The moment I got close enough, the wary boar charged straight at me.
“Ushaa!”
Its movements were slower than I expected. I casually stepped aside and slammed my fist into its face with everything I had.
Wham!
Boooom!!
Screeeeech!!
The boar let out a blood-curdling squeal as it flew through the air.
“Huh? What the? One punch sent it flying that far??”
“Right? I was hoping to gain some experience fighting wild beasts, but they’re way too weak. Guess I’ll just spar with Luffy later. Since I’m already out here, I’ll test the Zanpakuto once and then head back to the village.”
I left the boar that had flown into the distance behind and walked deeper into the mountains in search of stronger prey.
Jingle!
“Ah! Observation Haki.”
I’d completely forgotten about it. I scratched my head lightly and activated Observation Haki. Even though it wasn’t strong enough to cover the whole forest, I could sense the movement of living creatures nearby. I slowly headed in that direction.
“My rank is still low, so it only works in my immediate area.”
I gave the viewers a quick explanation and moved toward where I felt the presence. This time, a tiger-like beast appeared.
“I won’t release the Zanpakuto. I’ll just fight it normally.”
—Yeah, no need to release it yet lol
—If it gets dangerous you can release it then lol
—What, you scared?? lololol
I let out a small chuckle at the viewers’ half-hearted provocations. It wasn’t a strong opponent; there was no reason to use Shikai on a single tiger.
Unlike the wary boar from earlier, the tiger charged the moment it saw me. It was faster than the boar, but still just an animal. Now that I had some breathing room against its speed, I moved quickly.
Instant movement technique
Swish!
I vanished in the blink of an eye, reappearing above the tiger. I lightly swung my Zanpakuto toward its waist.
Slice!
The tiger’s waist was cut clean through in a single stroke. I landed lightly beside the corpse. Looking at the dead tiger with its guts and blood spilling from the severed torso, I felt nauseous.
“I didn’t feel it when I punched, but actually cutting a living thing with a blade feels… pretty awful. It’s both creepy and gross. I think I’m gonna throw up…”
—That’s fucking disgusting ㄷㄷ
—Right? In the manga you only see a little blood, but actually slicing someone with a sword ㄷㄷㄷ
I already felt like throwing up, and imagining cutting a person made it even worse. That’s when the system sound rang out.
Would you like to change the [Effect] from [Realistic] to [Shonen Manga]?
Changing the effect will reduce realistic sensations, wounds, smells, etc., to the level of a shonen manga.
“Hmm? So if I change it, even if an arm gets cut off or someone gets hurt, it’ll just show blood? Then I should definitely switch. I can’t handle full realism.”
—Yeah that seems better
—It’s easier to watch that way
—Honestly it doesn’t make sense that novel or manga protagonists can just slice people up from the start without issue
—If you change the setting, does the streamer get affected too?
After changing the setting, the gruesomely dead tiger now just lay there with blood leaking from its waist.
“Much more bearable now. I don’t know if the actual feeling of cutting with a blade changed too, but I’ll check that later.”
After changing the setting, I decided fighting more beasts was pointless and headed back to the village. I planned to ask the chief how to buy a ship.
“Excuse me, Chief. I’d like to buy a ship. Where can I get one?”
“Hm? Is that you, Jin? A ship?! Are you trying to become a pirate too?!”
“No, I have no plans to be a pirate. I just want to travel, and I need a ship for that. I have some money, so is there any way I can buy one?”
“A ship, huh… Our village only has small boats. You’d have to go to Loguetown to find anything decent.”
“How do I get to Loguetown… Do I have to take a dinghy?”
“I know someone in Loguetown who sells ships. I’ll contact him with a Den Den Mushi. How big do you want it?”
“Big enough for about five or six people. I’ll only use it for a year, so it doesn’t have to be anything fancy.”
“Then I’ll contact him and let you know.”
“Thank you, Chief. Also, can you contact Grandpa Garp for me?”
“Garp? What do you need him for?”
“I have something I want to ask him.”
“Wait a moment.”
A short while later, the chief came back with the Den Den Mushi. He contacted Grandpa Garp and handed it to me.
“Hello? Grandpa Garp?”
“Hm? Jin? What’s going on? Don’t tell me Luffy already set sail as a pirate?”
“No, it’s not that. I just have a question.”
“Oh? What are you curious about?”
“I’m thinking of sailing the seas as an adventurer and sort of a pirate hunter. Is that illegal?”
“Hm? Then forget about being a pirate hunter. This old man will make you into a strong Marine!”
“No… I don’t want to be a Marine. There’s no freedom, and I don’t like how they protect the Celestial Dragons. You’re an exception, Grandpa.”
“Those damn Celestial Dragon bastards… Well, if that’s how you feel, I can’t force you. At least you’re not a pirate, so that’s a relief. There’s no official adventurer class, so I’ll talk to Sengoku and get you official government credentials as a pirate hunter. Just keep taking down pirates while you travel.”
“I’ll definitely take care of Morgan, Grandpa.”
“Gahahaha! Good. Stay healthy and call me sometimes.”
“Yes. Take care too, Grandpa!”
I ended the call with Garp and went to find Luffy.
“Luffy! I’m heading out to sea.”
“Huh? I thought you said you’d wait a year!”
“I thought about it and realized there’s no reason to wait a whole year. But I’ll stay in the East Blue until you set out, so I’ll come back often!”
“Really?! Ishishi! It’s a shame we can’t go together, but go on ahead and wait for me, Jin!”
“Got it! Hey Luffy, before I leave, wanna spar with me once?”
“Huh? With me? But Jin, you’re weak.”
Crack!
“I’m weak…?”
“Ahaha! Our Luffy still doesn’t know how strong his big brother is, huh? Follow me…”
My stats were higher than his, so hearing him call me weak made me snap. I decided to fight him and led him to an open area with no people around.
—Oh we’re actually fighting Luffy?? lol
—This is gonna be fun??
—Isn’t the streamer stronger right now?
—Yeah, 15-year-old Luffy is nothing… streamer’s stats are higher lol
—But the streamer only just fought a boar and a tiger earlier…
Chatting with the viewers, we reached the beach. Luffy and I put some distance between us.
“Let’s start, Luffy.”
“Okay!”
Tap tap tap!
Luffy dashed forward instantly, stretching his arm behind him.
[Rubber Rubber Pistol]
I twisted my body slightly and spun sideways to dodge the incoming fist, then grabbed Luffy’s arm and yanked him forward. His body followed, and I delivered a spinning kick to the back of his head.
Bang!
Luffy flew straight into a wall. But he seemed completely unfazed. He brushed the dirt off and walked out like nothing happened.
“Hey Luffy, isn’t rubber totally broken?”
“Ishishi! Attacks don’t work on me! But Jin, you’re pretty fast. I didn’t expect to get grabbed and hit like that.”
“I still have a lot more to show you, Luffy.”
I answered and took the offensive this time. I rushed in and threw a high kick.
[Upper Roundhouse Kick]
It wasn’t a skill, but it was still fast. Luffy ducked and easily avoided it, then punched upward, smashing my jaw.
Wham!
“Ugh!”
The impact was stronger than I expected and made my head ring. I shook it off and swept a low spinning kick at Luffy’s legs as he charged me.
[Low Roundhouse Kick]
But he jumped over it easily again, then spun forward and stretched his leg for an attack.
[Rubber Rubber Axe]
Booom!!
Luffy stomped down at me, but I dodged to the side and his foot slammed into the ground. After dodging, I quickly closed in on him.
Luffy seemed to dodge my simple attacks too easily, so I switched to a hit-and-run strategy. I rapidly kicked both of his legs with alternating strikes. He tried to catch my fast movements by reaching out with his hands. I backed away to create distance.
To attack me, Luffy stretched both arms behind him and charged again.
—Oh!! That’s it!!!
—Rubber Rubber Bazooka!!!
Knowing the technique, I instead ran toward Luffy, looking for an opening.
[Rubber Rubber Bazooka]
Swish!
The moment Luffy tried to slam both hands into me, I stepped in close, planted a hand on his shoulder, jumped over the attack, and delivered a powerful kick to the back of his head.
Wham!
Booom!!
Luffy flew forward, skidding across the ground. A moment later he stood up, brushed himself off like it was nothing, and got back to his feet.
“Jin! You’ve gotten insanely strong! You didn’t even use that Navy martial arts or your sword earlier?”
“I wanted to fight you bare-handed, Luffy… Now that I know where I stand, shall we call it here?”
—For a first fight that was pretty good
—No matter how high his physical stats are, fighting Luffy bare-handed on his first try and holding his own…
—When you think about it, the streamer only got hit once, landed three or four hits…
—Wait, doesn’t that mean he won?!
I smirked while reading the chat, then returned to Foosha Village with Luffy.
“Jin, I found you a ship in Loguetown. It costs forty million berries. Can you afford it?”
“That much is doable. How big is it?”
“They said it’s Caravel class. If you say yes, they’ll deliver it here.”
“Then I’ll buy it, Chief.”
“Alright, I’ll tell them to bring it tomorrow.”
Luffy, who had been listening nearby, looked at me with envy.
“So you’re really leaving tomorrow…”
“Yeah. I know it’s sad, but just wait a little, Luffy… You’ll set out in two years too.”
“Okay! When that time comes, let’s fight again, Jin!”
“Sure, Luffy.”
After finishing our talk, we headed to Makino’s bar.
“Makino! I’m heading out to sea tomorrow.”
“Huh? So soon?”
“Yeah! But I’ll be traveling around the East Blue for the next two years, so I’ll come visit often.”
“I didn’t expect you to leave this quickly. It’s a shame… Take care of yourself and come back often, okay!”
“Will do, Makino!”
I ate dinner with Makino and Luffy—it doubled as a farewell party—then returned home.
—Nothing happened with Makino? That’s disappointing
—Exactly, can’t we get with Makino?
“No, guys! I only met Makino yesterday… In the setting before I arrived, I was just like a neighborhood kid to her, same as Luffy. There’s nothing I can do right now. I don’t have a Charm skill or anything…”
—We’re just sad, that’s all… sad…
—In two years we’ll roll the gacha until we get some lewd skills and come back for Makino!
“Yes! If I get something like that, I’ll come right back.”
—Classic guy behavior lololol
—All men are the same lololol
—At first it was Makino, then Nami, then “hueeeeng~”
I chatted and joked with the viewers like that until I eventually fell asleep.
