God of Thunder and a Flirty Ride to New Mexico
After wrapping up my chat with Thor, the God of Thunder, I casually asked Natasha if she wanted to grab a drink. She shot me down hard. Guess I'll have to wait for the next opportunity. I spent the night at the accommodations SHIELD had arranged for me, and the next morning I met up with Hawkeye.
"Technically, I'm here to help if things go south, but once we arrive I'll be heading off on my own to gather intel. By the way, can I take a look at your bow, Hawkeye?"
"Sure, but just look—don't touch. She's a sensitive girl!"
I watched as Barton grabbed his compound bow instead of the recurve bow he usually favored.
"That's not your main weapon, is it?"
"Huh? How'd you know this isn't my go-to?"
"I've got pretty solid intel sources."
I turned it over in my hands, inspecting it from every angle, but it didn't seem to have any special features. After that, I followed Barton onto the Quinjet.
"Kid, can you sit still for five seconds? Stop taking pictures."
"Don't worry, I'm not gonna post them anywhere!"
"That's not the point. I'm trying to fly this thing and you're distracting me."
I stopped filming the Quinjet's interior and turned my attention back to the chat.
"With my current stats, I'd lose to Thor right now, wouldn't I?"
"I'll test myself against the Destroyer. If it looks bad, I'll bail."
"Jane's probably already head over heels for Thor by now, right?"
"Deal! I'll give it a shot!"
The Quinjet began its descent as we approached our destination. Once it landed and the door opened, the scorching heat immediately made me grimace. Barton said he was heading straight into the operation, so I took the earpiece comms he offered, told him I'd go gather intel (and ogle Thor and the girls), and went off to find the God of Thunder.
While searching for him, I spotted a ripped white guy drinking at a nearby pub. Jane and Darcy were sitting right beside him. I walked over and greeted them.
"Hey there."
"Hello? Are you a tourist?"
"I'm here to sightsee, so yeah, close enough."
"Whoa, are you a Korean idol or something?"
Jane, noticing I was an Asian face rarely seen around these parts, asked if I was a tourist. Darcy, with her bright smile, immediately followed up by asking if I was an idol.
"I'm Korean, but not an idol. I'm an international student."
"What brings you all the way to New Mexico?"
"I heard a hammer-like object fell not far from here. They say even a truck couldn't budge it, so I came to check it out."
"What?! Where exactly??"
Thor shot up from his seat the moment I mentioned it.
"Just keep going in that direction. About two hours by car??"
Thor bolted out immediately, his group following close behind. I casually slipped in with them and started running too. It took Darcy a moment to notice my natural integration. When she pulled up in the car, she tilted her head at me.
"Where are you going?"
"To see the hammer, obviously. Take me with you. I wanna watch."
"That hammer is mine! You there, woman! Take me to it at once!"
Darcy glanced at Jane, who looked back at me once before nodding in approval. I didn't want to sit next to Dr. Selvig, so I took the front passenger seat. Darcy grinned at me.
"Why are you smiling like that?"
"It's just weird having someone who looks like a K-pop idol sitting next to me."
"Weird? I'd say I'm the lucky one, riding shotgun with a cute girl like you driving."
I flashed her a playful grin. She laughed first, so I played along—only for her to get flustered.
"Whoa—watch out!"
The car swerved wildly and nearly slammed into a tree.
"I didn't expect you to say that. You got me. I'm Darcy. Darcy Lewis. Nice to meet you!"
"Nice to meet you too, Darcy! I'm Woojin. Just call me Jin."
"That sweet talk is nice and all, but are we going the right way?"
"Yep, just keep heading this direction!"
Darcy completely ignored the people in the back, happily chatting away with me as she drove. Before long, we arrived at the spot where Mjolnir and Barton were waiting. That's when Barton's voice crackled through the earpiece.
I shrugged and pointed at Thor with my finger. The moment Thor got out of the car, he sprinted straight for Mjolnir. Hawkeye drew his bow and took aim. But then Coulson's voice came through.
Hawkeye kept his bow trained on Thor but didn't fire. Thor reached Mjolnir, smiled confidently, and grabbed the handle. He tried to lift it, but it wouldn't budge. His face twisted in confusion. He tried with his left hand, then both, even putting his whole body into it. Nothing worked.
Barton figured the situation was over. Coulson ordered agents to move in and detain Thor. The SHIELD agents approached, but Thor just knelt there in front of the hammer, looking devastated. When an agent tried to cuff him, Thor suddenly sprang up, shoved them aside, and tried to run.
I told Barton to wait and approached Thor. He was so worked up that he didn't distinguish friend from foe anymore. He even swung at me. I dodged and countered with Renewed Taekwondo.
Triple Spin Kick!
Thud! Thud! Thud! Boom!
After landing the three spinning kicks right on his head, Thor collapsed unconscious.
"So the sealed version of Thor is basically a glass cannon."
The agents hauled the unconscious Thor away and arrested what they assumed were his accomplices—Dr. Selvig, Jane, and Darcy. The three of them glared at me with pure contempt, clearly feeling betrayed. I walked over to the agents holding them.
"Let these people go. They have nothing to do with this. They're just civilians who got caught up in the mess."
They stood there silently. I turned to look at Coulson.
"We'll investigate and make that decision ourselves."
"I know more about this than any investigation you could run. Just release them. Or do you want me to stop sharing information?"
It was a bit of a bluff, but Coulson thought it over and eventually agreed to let them go. I approached the girls to explain.
"Sorry I couldn't tell you the truth earlier. Thor should be released by this afternoon. I'll bring him to you guys later."
Meanwhile, Coulson was interrogating the restrained Thor. He'd mistaken him for some kind of mercenary trained overseas and started asking for his identity. But Thor, still in shock, remained completely silent. Coulson eventually stepped out for a break from the unproductive questioning.
"Since I released them as you asked, let's hear this information of yours."
"I'll tell you if you believe me."
"I'll listen and decide for myself."
I grabbed a beer from the fridge, took a sip, and answered.
"Name: Thor. Age: Extremely old. Occupation: Prince of Asgard and God of Thunder. Family: Father Odin, Mother Frigga, Sister Hela, Half-brother Loki. Oh, and that hammer is called Mjolnir. That's all!"
"Are you joking?"
"Believe it or don't. I just told you what I know."
"I let them go just to hear this nonsense..."
He clearly didn't believe a word and was already regretting freeing the girls.
"You promised, so don't touch them. And release Thor too. I'll stay with them and keep an eye on him. If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility."
Coulson thought for a moment, then nodded in agreement.
While Thor was left alone in the interrogation room, Loki appeared and lied to him—claiming that Odin had died from the shock of banishing his son and that he himself had taken the throne. Thor begged Loki to take him back. Loki pretended to be sad, saying he'd made a peace treaty with Jotunheim that included Thor's exile, so it was impossible.
After Loki left, I went to the interrogation room. Thor looked at me with a weak smile.
"Sorry about earlier. For a human, you're surprisingly strong."
"Once you get Mjolnir back, let's have a proper spar. For now, just follow me out."
As I led Thor out, Dr. Selvig approached us, apparently having found a way to take Thor with him. We all got in the car and returned to the girls. They were happy to see Thor but eyed me warily. I explained the situation.
"So you're saying you're an agent from a secret organization and you came to investigate Thor?"
"Not exactly an agent. I was just asked to help out this one time..."
"And you actually believe Thor is a god?"
"Yes, I do! Just the fact that neither a car nor a crane could lift that hammer is already abnormal. And then a guy falls from the sky without a scratch and knows the hammer's name? You think that's all coincidence?"
"How did you know he fell from the sky?"
"Hacking."
"Hacking?"
I fiddled with my smartphone, used my hacking skill to access Darcy's laptop, opened a notepad, and typed in my phone number.
"If I can do this much with just a smartphone, you think I couldn't dig up your records?"
Jane was so shocked she couldn't close her mouth. Darcy grinned, saved my number on her own phone, and waved it at me playfully.
Over the next few days, I spent a lot of time with them and we grew pretty close.
A few days later, we were drinking beer at the same pub where I'd first met Thor. Four guys dressed in medieval armor showed up looking for him. Thor happily greeted his friends. From their conversation, he learned that Loki had deceived him. His rage was palpable.
At that exact moment, Loki dropped a Destroyer right into New Mexico where we were.
Just like in the movie, Thor got blasted away by the Destroyer. As he lay on the ground, static electricity crackled around his body and Mjolnir flew straight to him. The moment he grabbed it, his seal was broken. Seeing this, Loki dropped a second Destroyer.
While Thor fought one Destroyer, his friends tried to stop the second one but were completely overpowered. I stepped in.
Renewed Taekwondo - True Spin Kick!
Bang!!!
The Destroyer flew backward and crashed, but only a small part of its body was destroyed. It stood back up and fired a heat beam at me.
Ziiiing—!
I dodged the beam and dashed between its legs.
My pride was a little hurt too. I quickly moved behind the Destroyer and jumped.
Eight Gates Release - Fifth Gate: Gate of Limit, Open!
Jin Mori Original - Blue Dragon's Kick!
Booom... KABOOOOOM!!!!!
With the gates open, I poured overflowing mana into my leg and swung with everything I had. A dragon-shaped aura pierced straight through the Destroyer's body and exploded violently.
Thor had just finished destroying his own Destroyer and was coming over to help me. When he saw me blow a massive hole through the other one and end the fight, his face went slack with disbelief. The rest of Thor's friends looked equally shocked. Jane was surprised too, but her attention was clearly on Thor. Darcy ran over and jumped into my arms. In her excitement, she planted a kiss right on my lips.
"What are you? You look like a Korean idol but you fight like a total badass! Are you a god like Thor?"
I smiled and gave her a gentle kiss back.
"I'm not a god. Just a special kind of human."
"Special human? So you're still human, right?"
"Yep. If you don't believe me, why don't you come check tonight?"
My dirty line made her blush bright red, but she didn't seem to mind at all.
Once everything was wrapped up, Thor left. I asked Darcy if she'd like to visit me in New York. Without the slightest hesitation, she started packing her bags.
