Sniper Carry
Suddenly, a voice laced with irritation cut through the air. I turned around and the sight of an ice wall rising at the entrance to the base hit me like a truck.
Just from that alone, I could guess the situation well enough.
I figured it was some kind of sabotage from a teammate sniper, but it turned out to be a player who was actively disrupting the game.
Not just any disruption, either — a sniper that completely shut down normal play.
If someone like that was on the same team, that game was basically over.
The trolling from the sniper didn’t stop at simple path-blocking.
The ice wall didn’t last forever, so after a few seconds it would vanish and let Seoyeon slip out of the base. But every time the cooldown finished, she kept using it to harass Seoyeon.
She blocked her view completely, prevented her from returning when she was focused and trying to hide behind the tank, or even slammed an ice wall under the character Seoyeon was attacking to send her flying. All kinds of ways to mess with her.
“Hey you crazy bitch! Stop it! Seriously, can you guys report that guy, please?”
Every time she fell victim to the sniper’s interference, Seoyeon’s screams spilled out over the voice chat.
The same team seemed to have noticed the situation. At least, as a silver lining, they didn’t throw the game out of annoyance?
Of course, the chat window only showed people laughing while watching Seoyeon suffer.
Playing along with the chat, I learned there wasn’t just a sniper on our team — there was one on the opposing team as well.
The character was playing Road Pig. Normally they would hook an enemy character to break the formation or pull a low-health one for a one-shot. But this sniper hooked Seoyeon and then dropped her off a cliff.
“Aw, there are two snipers. Can we even win this?”
Seoyeon was basically helpless with two snipers on the field.
But having a sniper on the opposing team was actually a blessing. If the other five played properly, winning would be an absolute nightmare.
I finished the chat and immediately dropped a heal on our team while aiming at the Shadowmaker on the opposing side. Ena’s basic attack healed our team but dealt dot damage to enemies.
I sniped the Shadowmaker who was trying to snipe while half-hidden behind a building, and the weird phenomenon of the dealer character being followed by the healer character occurred.
It was an unavoidable call — our team’s dealer Seoyeon couldn’t deal proper damage because of the sniper. Our team realized there was no other way to win, so she kept going without saying anything.
Somehow I ended up giving orders. It was subtly annoying to issue them through chat. That’s why using a mic is so much easier...
I used to give orders via mic back in the original world, so trying to do it through chat felt even harder.
Should I buy a mic…? In the original world, being male didn’t matter much in games, but here it was a very important issue. Maybe I’d run into crazy people.
I’d seen plenty of stories about weird people when women played Overwatch in the original world.
There was no guarantee such people didn’t exist here, and the worst part was that the target of those stories had become me.
Let’s just win this game first.
As a healer I attacked the opposing team’s dealer to harass them or healed our Rainhardt and Erci, concentrating several times harder than usual.
Since we were in the bronze division, maybe it was possible. Or perhaps the opposing team’s level and understanding were just too low. The Shadowmaker kept getting followed by me several times but never lowered his ultimate and just sniped from afar.
If I had switched to another character earlier and joined the main team, we would have been pushed. Plus, the opposing team’s Road Pig — their tank — kept going after Seoyeon, meaning they had no one to protect themselves. That had a huge impact.
Even though they thought they had numerical superiority, they kept getting pushed and now they were fighting among themselves in the whole chat. If this continued, we might actually win...
I saw Seoyeon join our main team and our sniper using the ice wall, so I immediately shot a sleep bullet at the Road Pig and then used Nano enhancer on Seoyeon right away. I had seen her ultimate was full but unused because she was alone until now, and the timing was perfect to wipe out the opposing team.
“Eh? Nano scope is coming~~~”
Seoyeon didn’t know Nano had arrived and immediately used her ultimate, spraying at the opposing team. With no hiding spots, she couldn’t avoid the tactical scope that automatically aimed at enemies, and the kill log filled with Seoyeon’s soldier securing every kill.
After barely wiping out the enemies and pushing the payload, we took the first point. Now it was time to defend...
Thanks to the sniper who wasn’t playing the game properly? The opposing team players, thinking it was a lost game anyway, didn’t come out of the base and did nothing.
When the words “victory” appeared on the screen, I felt my strength drain away. It had been a game where I concentrated hard for a long time.
“Senior Gosu, I’m really sorry. It was hard because of the sniper, right?”
After the game ended, Seoyeon apologized to me in a sorry voice.
“Aw, I’m really sorry! It wasn’t supposed to be sniped from the start, but today the sniper came so quickly…”
As expected, streamers have no choice but to suffer from snipers when playing games. If I streamed on the internet too, would I have to endure something like this? It was a bit scary.
It was the moment I was about to turn off Overwatch and go to sleep because I had to go to school tomorrow.
“Aw, wait! Senior Gosu, I’m going to upload the game I played with you last time and today’s game to YouTube. Is it okay?”
YouTube? Seoyeon also had a streamer channel on YouTube.
It was a bit unsettling that my traces would be uploaded on the internet, but since my voice wasn’t included and there was no information to estimate my real self, it should be fine?
“Aw, thank you, Senior Gosu~ Then have a good sleep~”
I turned off Overwatch while listening to Seoyeon’s greeting and started preparing to sleep.
Ah, but thinking about going to school tomorrow, I really don’t want to.
@ Kang Seoyeon
I greeted Senior Gosu with gratitude and sat on the chair, sighing.
“Sigh… It was really hard. Well, then let’s process the Toto results?”
The chat window was naturally full of people who expected us to win three games, so it was a mess saying the points were gone.
“That’s why I should have believed in my own skills. I saw you using your scope to wipe out the enemies at the end.”
“Aw, bus riding is also skill. Senior Gosu believed in me and gave me Nano at the end.”
Chats guessing who Gosu was came up in the chat window. Honestly, I didn’t know either.
It couldn’t be a pro player’s sub-account because my record before playing with him wasn’t bad, and if it was a sub, there was no reason to play with me. It wasn’t necessary to make a mistake.
Since it wasn’t a sub, he would boldly do a duo in the broadcast with me.
Who is Senior Gosu?
Well, anyway, that’s not important. I should make a video about meeting someone flying in bronze and upload it.
If I organize the appearance of carrying while being sniped and upload it, it should be pretty good? Since it’s with Senior Gosu, there will be video length and it’s really good.
Next time we meet, I have to beg him to play together.
