The Opportunity Was... A Reincarnation Truck?
The opportunity was right there…
Five five-stars should’ve come out, but instead I got a dupe on a featured one. This is straight-up ruined. T_T Is this actually ruined? -Oh -Bitik you fucking bastard
These motherfuckers always test the limits of my patience. If I hadn’t experienced it myself, I might have tried to endure it. But seeing this with my own eyes? There was no way I could hold back.
If my luck had been even remotely average, maybe I could’ve brushed it off. But my luck is straight-up nuclear waste tier. Just looking at this shit makes my brain short-circuit. The rage starts in my cerebrum and spreads all the way to my fingertips and toes until my arms and legs are tingling. If the bastard who posted this bitik flex had been standing in front of me, I might’ve actually killed him.
‘Some people can’t pull a single one even after two thousand pulls and they’re losing their minds over it.’
These bitik bastards always use clickbait titles, so it’s almost impossible to avoid them. Even if I try to be careful, I can’t dodge every single one. Especially the posts whining about how their gacha is ruined—they have a high chance of being landmines, yet I always fall for them. I tell myself I just want to share the pain with fellow ruined souls, and I click anyway even though I know better.
Every time I saw a bitik post, it made my stomach hurt so bad it was unbearable. And the more painful it was, the more insanely jealous I became.
I want to bitik too.
At some point, that had become my one and only wish. I didn’t want to be on the receiving end anymore. I wanted to be the one doing the bitik. Just once… I wanted to make other people’s stomachs twist with envy. I wanted them to feel jealous of me. I wanted to make those demon-like bastards who never get tired of flexing eat shit for once.
But with my hopelessly trash luck, pulling off a bitik was more unrealistic than becoming president.
“In the end, this month is no different from last month! That damn shaman grandma scammed me, fuck!”
After starting the gacha and getting hit with that demonic bitik, I couldn’t take it anymore. That’s when I started clinging to religion and the occult. I visited churches and temples, bought every lucky charm and occult item I could find. But no matter what I did, my hopeless misfortune never improved.
So as a last resort, I went to see a shaman grandma who was rumored to be incredibly accurate after sixty years in the business. The moment she saw me, she spoke as if she already knew exactly why I was there, which startled me.
“It’s no use. Whatever you do, it’s meaningless. You can’t fix that, kid.”
“Huh…? What do you mean…”
“It’s your fate. A destiny you won’t be able to untangle until the day you die. It’s twisted beyond belief.”
“You’re saying my terrible luck is my fate…? That I can’t fix it until I die…?”
“That’s right, kid. Even I can’t do anything about it. Still, it’s not like you’re so unlucky you’ll actually die from it, so just endure and live.”
The words from that cranky old shaman dragged me down into a pit of dark despair. No matter what I did, it was hopeless… It was impossible for me to ever bitik in my lifetime… Then what kind of hope was I supposed to live with?
While I was drowning in despair, the shaman scattered rice grains on a wooden tray and began staring at them with intense focus.
“…Heh heh! Well now… Even with a fate this twisted, something like this can still happen. How truly remarkable.”
I heard her muttering but couldn’t understand what she meant, so I just tilted my head in confusion.
“Should I call this luck, or…”
“Yes?”
“Listen carefully. Next month, a truly enormous opportunity will come to you.”
“What? An opportunity? Not luck?”
“Yes, child. An opportunity. A tremendously huge opportunity. One so massive that even if you gathered every bit of luck you’ve ever had in your life, it still wouldn’t be enough.”
“…!!!”
Those words hit me like lightning. A chance that big… For someone who had lived his entire life in misfortune, it was beyond imagination.
“Whether you seize that opportunity or not is entirely up to you. When the moment comes, you will have to make a choice.”
“If an opportunity that huge comes, of course I’ll grab it!”
If what the shaman said was true, this would be the chance of a lifetime.
“Heh heh. Don’t take it lightly. Not just anyone can seize an opportunity like that. It will definitely be a difficult choice. It may even demand a tremendous sacrifice.”
The shaman tried to scare me, but my determination didn’t waver. If such an opportunity really came to me, I would absolutely seize it.
No matter what kind of sacrifice it requires…
That was last month. And today is the very last day of July—the July that the shaman spoke of. July 31st.
From the beginning of July until today, I had lived with sky-high expectations, believing the shaman’s words. I stayed on edge, wondering what would happen. But in the end, the opportunity the shaman mentioned never came.
Up until today, I lived exactly like always—commuting to work, enjoying subculture stuff. Nothing about my daily life had changed at all.
Today was finally the last day. But I had already given up on any expectations. It would be ten o’clock soon. I still hadn’t found even a trace of this so-called opportunity. It looked like nothing would happen and the day would just end like this. I should’ve listened to my dad when he said all famous shamans are frauds.
“That famous shaman grandma charged me a million won in fees… Fuck… I could’ve done two thousand pulls with that money!”
No matter how much I regretted it, my precious million won wasn’t coming back.
“Life is such shit… Guess I’ll go smoke.”
I looked for my cigarettes only to realize I was out.
“Agh, fuck.”
I thought about holding out until tomorrow, but I knew I couldn’t. “I’m even craving alcohol now. Might as well buy some drinks while I’m getting cigarettes.”
I threw on some clothes, slipped on my sandals, and left the house. I walked to the nearby convenience store, bought my usual cigarettes, some domestic beer, a bottle of soju, and some snacks, then came back outside. I was about to head straight home.
But for some reason the moon looked especially bright tonight, so I decided to take a walk to the park, drink while stargazing at the moon. I headed toward the main road on my way to the park when I noticed a strange guy.
A man standing blankly in the middle of a six-lane road. The problem was, he wasn’t on a crosswalk.
Is he drunk? He should at least drink in moderation. Tsk tsk, look at him.
He was wearing all black too, so it was obviously dangerous. It wasn’t a busy area, and since it was already past ten at night, there was no one else around.
“Sigh…”
If he got into an accident, I’d probably have nightmares. I figured I should help him. There weren’t any cars on the road at the moment, so I quickly approached the seemingly drunk man and called out to him.
“Hey, mister! It’s dangerous to stand there! You’re in the middle of the road!”
But the guy didn’t seem to hear me. He didn’t even turn his head or move. With no other choice, I stepped onto the road myself, grabbed his arm, and tried to pull him.
“I told you it’s dangerous here.”
Smack!
“Get the hell away!!!”
“…”
This bastard actually slapped my hand away and yelled at me. I was completely stunned. I came all the way onto the road to help a drunk, and this is what I get? Honestly, it pissed me off, but I told myself he was just drunk so it was understandable.
“Hey… mister. I’m telling you, this is the middle of the road. Cars drive here!”
I tried to persuade him again, but…
“I said get lost!!!”
He wouldn’t listen to me at all.
How much did this guy even drink? Should I call the police?
But strangely, there was no smell of alcohol on him. Normally if someone drank that much, the smell would be overpowering…
Is he a lightweight? Or maybe… he’s on drugs…?
While I was wondering what to do, I heard the drunk guy muttering to himself.
“It’s coming… They definitely said it would come here… It’ll be here soon…”
What the hell is he muttering about?
His eyes were bloodshot as he stared down the road, muttering like he’d lost his mind. It was honestly a bit scary. I was starting to seriously suspect he was on drugs. I quietly took out my phone, tapped the call icon, and started dialing 112 when his muttering grew even more intense.
“It’s coming… It has to come… This is the right place… It’s coming… It’ll come here… The ‘Reincarnation Truck’…!”
“…!?”
I froze right before pressing the call button. I had heard what he muttered.
What did he just say…? Reincarnation truck…? Haha, what the hell is this guy talking about.
It was such an absurd thing to say. The probability that this guy was on drugs shot up even higher.
A reincarnation truck… There’s no way something like that actually exists.
It shows up all the time in manga, anime, and novels these days, but I never thought it could be real. Most hardcore otakus probably wouldn’t believe it either. And yet this guy was acting completely serious, like he genuinely believed a reincarnation truck would appear.
He was seriously insane.
But why…?
Maybe it was the desperate conviction I saw in his eyes that made me think ‘what if.’ Even though I knew it was impossible, I swallowed hard and felt myself growing tense.
