The Real Perk Is Looks
Yeon Dohui.
A woman my age — twenty-four. The ally I'd grown close to after coming to this world.
"I figure it's about time I started getting ready for the apocalypse."
After reincarnating, I spent about two weeks just getting my bearings. I studied how society was structured, how the system worked, how similar this place was to where I'd lived before — I was pretty thorough about it.
Thanks to the Goddess's consideration, I'd been handed a small studio apartment the moment I arrived. That kept the adjustment period from dragging on too long. If I'd started from a complete zero, just getting on my feet would've taken half a year or more.
Landing in a civilization that resembled my old Earth had a lot to do with how fast I adapted, too. It had a cyberpunk edge to it, a notch more advanced than the Korea I'd known, but the overall style didn't feel alien.
"Hah... two billion won. The kind of money I'd never have touched in a lifetime of backbreaking work. And I got my hands on it because I died jerking off... That was one hell of a productive wank. A wank with zero regrets."
By the two-week mark, I'd more or less found my feet. That was also when I cashed in the first-prize lottery numbers the Goddess had given me and secured a capital of about two billion won.
"Fuck, though. You actually gotta know something for that to matter..."
Right. I didn't know a thing. When it came to professional survival, I was a complete idiot. Just some shut-in who'd played zombie games in his room.
The apocalypse content I'd consumed was games, novels, webtoons, movies. And in most of those, the story went the same way: the apocalypse hits, the protagonist starts from nothing, and then he scrapes and claws to farm supplies. Check the situation from inside the house. Loot the convenience store down the street. Get a little bolder, raid the supermarket. That was the usual storyline.
My situation was the opposite. I'd been handed two billion won at the starting line, and I had roughly four months to prepare for the zombie apocalypse headed my way.
Tens of billions in capital. Four months to prepare. And the thing I was preparing for was the apocalypse. I probably needed to think on a bigger scale. The problem was, I had no idea what to actually do if I wanted the Goddess to pat me on the head and tell me I'd done well.
So I threw a post up on a community.
As always, the power of collective intelligence was a beautiful thing. A bunker, and every kind of survival supply you could name — thanks to the internet warriors, I finally understood what I actually needed to prepare. They'd mentioned things like solar power on top of the bunker itself. Building a survival environment that would eat through tens of billions of won was, in the end, a specialist's job. And a specialist's job should be left to specialists.
Which is why I looked up a bunker company and decided to hire one.
And the person I ended up meeting was—
Holy fuck... she was insanely gorgeous. Even hotter in person.
Yeon Dohui.
The reason I picked her company was pure, unfiltered selfishness. The company itself wasn't that big — a startup, really. But while I was looking into them, I saw a photo of the CEO, and her face was a knockout.
Yeon Dohui... she was fuck-off beautiful.
Not that I decided to hire her just because she was pretty. The plan was to meet that pretty face in person, get a look, and hear her out. But once I actually sat across from her, "hear her out" started sliding fast toward "I want to hire this woman." She was prettier than the photo. Devastatingly prettier.
Model-tall, with long black layered waves cascading down her back. The look was intensely alluring — and for the record, I'm a sucker for alluring. Her skin was startlingly pale, almost porcelain. Large eyes with a faint catlike tilt, framed by lush lashes and straight, sharp brows. She looked intimidatingly haughty. We were the same age, from what I knew, but I wanted to call her noona. And her features overall had a faintly exotic cast. Not fully mixed, but like a little foreign blood had found its way in.
And then, the deciding factor.
Her chest... what the hell was going on with that chest...!
They were huge. Her breasts — no, I'll just say it the way it felt. Her tits were genuinely enormous.
This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I'm going to say it anyway: looking at a being who possessed a pair like that, a deep, sincere trust welled up in me that she would build my bunker properly. Sturdy. Safe. The feeling, at least, was genuine.
The feeling, however, was as far as it went. Even I, Kim Taeshik, who had died with my dick in my hand, could not commission an apocalypse-prep bunker on the basis of raw, naked horniness.
In the end, the reason I hired her was something else entirely.
"......."
Yeon Dohui stared at me for a long time without a word. Like she was looking into something.
Huh...? Why is she looking at me like that? Did I check out her tits too obviously? Or is it that I got too handsome after reincarnating?
The "too handsome" part was a stretch. Not a complete stretch, though. Precisely speaking, by current standards, it wasn't a complete stretch at all.
Before I reincarnated, my looks had been average. But when the Goddess sent me to this world, she'd thrown in another perk: she'd bumped my appearance up to above-average. According to her, it was to help me adapt faster. A convincing argument, honestly. I was sitting here considering a bunker commission because I'd been blindsided by Yeon Dohui's goddess-tier face.
So there I was, upgraded from average guy to above-average, and the first time I met Yeon Dohui happened to be when I was riding an oversized high off my new looks. Which meant Kim Taeshik — chronic wanker, half out of his mind over a woman with true goddess-tier beauty — was already swaggering around like he was somebody.
Yeon Dohui looked at this newly insufferable version of me for a long while. Then she spoke, quietly.
"You're from another world, aren't you?"
She'd said another world.
"Another world...?"
I was thrown. Another world? Did she mean a foreign country? No — normally you'd say you seemed like you were from another country, or from overseas.
"Yes. Another world. Not another country in this world — a world from a different dimension."
She'd read me clean through. She laid out exactly what she meant by "another world," with no room for misunderstanding.
When she was little, Yeon Dohui had suffered something like a divine illness. It had hit her hard. Her parents — her father had passed away a little over two years ago — had run themselves ragged trying to find her a cure, going everywhere they could think of. After years of that, she'd improved somewhat. But it was never a fundamental fix.
Watching her struggle, her father eventually sat her down and told her a secret: he was an otherworlder. He'd come through a portal into this world. Her mother had known about his background, of course. It was such a strange thing that they'd planned to tell Yeon Dohui once she was older. Then their daughter came down with a divine illness, and it wouldn't go away at the root. As a father, he couldn't help wondering if it had something to do with him being from another world. So he told her the truth earlier than he'd meant to.
Whether her illness had actually been caused by her father being an otherworlder was never confirmed. What the whole affair did give her was the concept of other worlds — and the concept of crossing from one world into another.
"The shaman who helped me the most told me as much. She said if I worked with machines, I'd be able to manage the divine power I carried in a relatively stable way."
The symptoms had eased, but Yeon Dohui's divine illness had never fully gone away. There was, however, a way to make the divine power it had left in her work in her favor: working with machines. Which also meant that if she didn't work with machines, bad luck would start to pile up. Her body would get sick again, and her peach-blossom fate was so strong she'd have been doomed to suffer because of men.
Once she started working with machines, her condition improved dramatically. These days, Yeon Dohui was actually in excellent health. But the divine power was still seated in her body, and because of it, she said she could often pick up on unusual energies. That was how she'd known I was someone from another world.
I'm a reincarnator myself, and this gorgeous woman is sitting here telling me all of this with total conviction, no hesitation... I want to trust her, I really do... but there's always a "what if," you know?
I wanted to believe her. Honestly, I did. I wanted this stunning woman and me to have some kind of incredible connection. I wanted to believe her so badly that I started hunting for something I could actually trust — which, of course, only made me more suspicious of her. You never know. For all I knew, her real goal was to harvest my organs.
"If I were to offer you proof you could actually believe, Mr. Taeshik..."
To me, sitting there with my wildly creative suspicions, Yeon Dohui presented airtight evidence.
"Your face. Your face changed quite a bit when you came here, didn't it? I can sort of feel that kind of energy around it."
She'd pinpointed it exactly — my face, upgraded from average to above-average.
That's airtight proof...!
At that point, you believe her. Of course you believe her.
And just like that, I had myself a reliable ally. An extremely gorgeous, extremely busty ally.
