The Great Sage's Personality Test
Sun Wukong let out a booming laugh. “Fine, I’ll give you a chance to explain yourself.”
“Ugh…”
With Zeon gone, only the two of us remained in his room. An icy chill so cold it could freeze a person to death filled the entire space. Sitting on the edge of the bed, Cheonma looked down at someone with a frigid gaze and spoke.
“Begin.”
At Cheonma’s command, Hoya—who had been kneeling with both hands raised high in a punishment pose—immediately opened her mouth as if she’d been waiting for this moment.
“No, I’m telling you it’s totally safe! I went there myself!”
“Zeon isn’t the same as you, is he?”
“There’s no fighting that happens there in the first place!”
“Then what exactly do you do there?”
“Um… it’s like a psychological evaluation?”
Smack.
“Ow!”
“Explain it properly. Otherwise, I don’t know what might happen to that promise we made before.”
“You can’t do that! How can you go back on it now?!”
“Then explain it well. You personally said it was safe, so if you explain properly, there won’t be any problem. Mess up here and you’re finished.”
A single bead of cold sweat trickled down her chin. Hoya carefully began to speak.
What kind of trials Zeon was facing. What happened inside those trials. What the rewards were. She poured out every single piece of information she knew. It was an exhaustive, squeezed-out explanation that didn’t miss a single memory.
“I see.”
After all the explanations were finished, Cheonma—who had been quietly sitting with her eyes closed—opened them again. Reading the emotion in those eyes, Hoya swished her tails and said,
“What is it this time?! What are you unhappy about now?!”
“I was just thinking it would’ve been better if you’d explained all this first. Very well. If what Hoya said is true, it will clearly be of great help to Zeon.”
A being who bestows power. Considering their stature, they might even stand above her. No, the probability was quite high that they were indeed superior.
“…Fine. Then explain what we need to do.”
“…!! I’ve been waiting for this!”
They would have to do their part until Zeon completed the trial and returned.
“It’s been a while since I’ve properly stretched my body.”
“Everyone’s dead! Cheonma Punch! Cheonma Punch!”
“The Great… Sage Equal to Heaven…?”
“What? You know me?”
Of course I knew him. The title Great Sage Equal to Heaven literally meant a great saint who could rival the heavens. He was one of the legendary titles held by the yokai almost everyone knew—Sun Wukong.
“Hehe! I suppose I am a bit famous, aren’t I? Indeed.”
Famous? That was an understatement. In any story with fantasy elements or yokai, he showed up without fail. Sometimes as an enemy. Sometimes as the protagonist. Sometimes even as an extra or through his descendants.
‘Even right here, we’re dealing with Sun Wukong.’
A legendary yokai who rose from yokai status all the way to the seat of the gods. Unlike Arbaana’s first patriarch, he didn’t appear in person but only remained in records. Lately, it felt like I’d been running into far too many shocking things.
You have encountered a legendary being who possesses divine stature.
📍 Title Acquired:Myth-Witness
Just meeting Sun Wukong was enough to grant me a title.
“Oh? This guy… suddenly got stronger?”
Before I could even check the effect, Sun Wukong’s eyes gleamed as he noticed my change. Those shining golden eyes—his famous Fiery Golden Eyes—burned hotly as they began scanning through all my information.
‘My whole body’s getting chills.’
Just by looking, he could make someone lose their will to fight. As expected of the legendary great yokai. He was definitely living up to the name Sun Wukong.
“Are you even human?”
“What do you mean by that?”
“No matter how I look at you, you don’t seem human.”
Whoosh.
“Whoa?!”
Two hands burst through the mist and lifted me high into the air.
“No surgical scars. And you weren’t artificially created either.”
“U-um, could you please put me down?”
“Just stay still for a moment, kid.”
Crackle.
“Ho? What an interesting fellow!”
Sun Wukong burst into hearty laughter as he looked at the purple lightning crawling up his arm. That familiar lightning was unmistakably Cheonma’s. So the moment he judged Sun Wukong’s action as a threat, the defensive instinct she had planted in me activated automatically?
Crackle.
It was powerful enough to knock out most people. But the being before me wasn’t ordinary—he was the legendary existence known as the strongest yokai.
“Hup.”
Bang!
He inhaled and flexed his arm, and Cheonma’s lightning was instantly repelled and vanished. Sun Wukong looked at his own arm, then set me down and spoke.
“Whoever it is, you’ve got yourself one hell of a master.”
“My master is indeed amazing.”
“Kwahahaha! Right. I never thought I’d actually get hurt!”
With a booming laugh, the arm disappeared back into the mist. In the brief moment I saw it, the wound caused by the lightning was visibly healing in real time. A regenerative ability comparable to the Heavenly Demon Divine Art—no, perhaps even greater.
“At first I thought you were just the little fox’s contractor! But you had an even bigger monster standing behind you.”
“Do you know Miss Hoya?”
“Well, she was the one who visited this place not too long ago before you arrived.”
“When was that?”
“It’s been over a hundred years?”
A hundred years. To Sun Wukong, that counted as recent.
“Back then, she learned cloning techniques and other Taoist arts from me and left. Her personality was incredibly aggressive, just like mine in the old days. Is she still like that?”
“Aggressive… you say…?”
The girl who got flicked on the forehead by Cheonma, dragged around, and only ever complained with her mouth without ever actually fighting back?
“Kwahahaha! That reaction tells me everything! I can imagine what that girl went through in the last hundred years!”
Sun Wukong immediately read the answer from my expression. After laughing loudly for a moment, I heard the sound of him gulping something down. The alcohol scent piercing through the mist… was he drinking?
“Pwah! Then shall we get to the main topic?”
Thud.
Just from him setting down a wine cup, my body trembled slightly.
“Human child. Do you know where this place is?”
“I understand it as the location of the trial.”
“Trial my ass. It’s just a free distribution center where you get power for nothing.”
“Pardon?”
At my dumbfounded reaction, Sun Wukong narrowed his eyes and said,
“This is a place prepared for those who are qualified. Those who reach this place receive power suited to them from me.”
“Then…”
“Yes. Since you too have proven yourself qualified to come here, I shall grant you power.”
Receiving power from none other than Sun Wukong? Even Cheonma—who took such pride in the Heavenly Demon Divine Art—would have to acknowledge this. No, it was power learned from Sun Wukong himself?
“Please do it right away!”
“Hm? Kwahaha! Is it because you’re a contractor? I like that boldness!”
“I’m not a contractor.”
“Huh?”
“I didn’t form a contract with Miss Hoya.”
At my words, Sun Wukong’s eyes widened. Along with that, the golden pupils that had been visible through the mist became fully revealed.
“What? It’s true?”
“Didn’t you already check earlier?”
“Since you were giving off that fox girl’s ghostly qi, I naturally assumed you were contracted and didn’t pay it any mind.”
Tap. Tap.
At some point Sun Wukong had picked up a long staff and was tapping it against his shoulder, lost in thought. That staff was probably the famous Ruyi Jingu Bang, right?
“Hmm…”
Tap. Tap.
“Hmmm…”
Seeing him look like he was pondering something, I gradually began to feel nervous. Could it be a problem that I was using ghostly qi without a contract? What if I ended up leaving with nothing? If I hadn’t heard about receiving power, maybe I wouldn’t care, but having heard everything, going back empty-handed now would leave me with massive regrets.
“Is there some kind of problem?”
“It is a problem, but… well, does it really matter? This is the first time I’ve encountered this situation, so even I’m a bit flustered.”
Even the great Sun Wukong was flustered. Still, from what he was saying, it didn’t seem like a huge issue.
“First, human kid. Fill this out for me.”
A piece of paper flew toward me.
“This is…?”
“This will determine what kind of power I give you, so do it with sincerity.”
“What the heck is this?”
Question 1. I prefer playing outside to playing indoors.
1. Strongly agree. 2. Agree. 3. Disagree. 4. Strongly disagree.
“……?”
“Kwahaha! This is a mystical paper filled with questions that precisely determine your personality type! Pretty amazing, right? I’ve used this to give everyone else exactly what suited them!”
No matter how I looked at it, these were clearly MBTI-style questions. And it wasn’t just the first one. All the questions below were familiar phrases I’d definitely seen somewhere before.
“Um… does the result come out in English or something?”
“How did you know?!”
“I’m an INTJ, so there’s no need for me to do this.”
“H-how do you know that?!”
Was my answer really that surprising? Well, in this world it might be.
“Did that little fox Hoya tell you?”
“No?”
“Then how do you know about this?! R-right! You’re just saying random things, aren’t you? If you can’t explain what it means…”
“I’m an introverted person, yes. A strategic planner or whatever. So just give me the reward already.”
“T-type!! Again?! Why is everyone who comes here a T?!”
That pathological rejection response. I asked, just in case.
“By any chance, Great Sage… are you an F type?”
He flinched.
Ah, our Sun Wukong. He really is the emotional type.
When I looked at the mist with that thought in mind, he noticed my gaze and burst out,
“You brat! I’ve always said that those who love fighting and are good at it are naturally emotional types!”
“Who says that?”
“I do!”
What a shameless thing to say. But there was no need to provoke him any further here.
“So, about the reward?”
“Have some sympathy, will you!”
