Blackie and Whitey Awaken
Thump! Thump!
"This is... me?"
The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a white slime about 15cm tall that looked exactly like me. It patted my cheek lightly, like it was checking if I was dead or alive after I'd fallen over.
"I'm alive, you know."
Smack!
Squeak-!
Something about that pissed me off, so I flicked its forehead. The white slime grabbed its forehead with both hands and squeaked like, Why'd you hit me? How dare it touch its master's cheek like that. Served it right.
"Anyway, get off me so I can get up."
Rumble rumble—
I waved the surrounding slimes away and tried to sit up. That's when it happened.
Squeak! Squeak!
"...And what are you?"
Another slime was blocking my movement. Unlike the white one, this was black, and it had this mischievous look on its face as it climbed onto my stomach.
"What's your deal?"
Squeak...
"?"
It just narrowed its eyes at my question, no reaction. And then—
Thump! Thump! Thump!
"Hey! Hey! You crazy bastard, what the hell?!"
I grabbed the little shit jumping on my stomach like it was having the time of its life and yanked it off by the scruff.
Squeee-!
The black slime glared at me with venomous eyes, like I was just having fun, why'd you grab me?
"What makes you think you can look at me like that?!"
Smack!
Squeeee-!
I flicked its forehead again, making it clutch it in pain, then plopped it down next to the white one. The blackie was still glaring daggers, but I ignored it and observed them both.
"...No way, you two."
Black and white. The colors were a bit off, but...
"You're those guys, right?"
The two slimes that had tripped me up earlier. Indigo and grayish-white—definitely them.
Nod—
Squeak-!
The white one nodded like my guess was spot on, while blackie turned its head away with a haughty expression, like You didn't know?
Smack!
Squeeee-!
"Ah, sorry. That face just rubbed me the wrong way."
Its expression pissed me off so much I flicked blackie's forehead again. It knew it was in the wrong, so it'd understand. Anyway, they must've changed like this after getting tangled up with me somehow.
I examined them closely.
...But why? What did I even do...?
They weren't normal slimes to begin with, sure. But just touching me changed them this much? Hmm... My stubborn brain couldn't wrap around it.
"Or maybe it's that crown and the king guy's fault?"
My eyes drifted to the crown and scepter that started all this. But I still didn't get it... The crown was the King Slime's, so maybe, but I knew jack about the scepter.
"...Fuck if I know. I'll figure it out eventually!"
My head was starting to hurt, so I didn't wanna think anymore. I needed clues to figure shit out anyway. Better to shelve it for later.
"Anyway, you two evolved, so work twice as hard. Gotta earn your keep, right?"
"You're Whitey."
Squeak...?
"You're Blackie."
Squeak-! Squeak-!!!
Pretty good names, right? Matches their looks perfectly.
Squeeee.... Squeak-! Squeak-!
"Hmm, too harsh?"
Did I name them too sloppily? I paused at their reactions. But hey, they were gonna get worked either way—did the name matter? As long as they worked well and were easy to call, it was fine.
"Alright then, Blackie, Whitey. Come here."
I called them over and sat them in front of me. Blackie resisted a bit in the middle, but...
"...Flick."
Squeak...
No problem bringing them over.
So why'd I sit them down? To check what they could do through emotional feedback.
"...Why are they all locked?"
I checked what they could do, and all the skills were locked. Levels at a measly 1?
"This is driving me nuts..."
No clue how to proceed. The skills looked decent from the descriptions... But what good were they locked? Might as well tell me how to unlock 'em. Nothing there, so who knew if evolving was even worth it.
"Tch, still, just in case..."
Squeak?! Squeak-! Squeak-!!!
I picked up Blackie, who was doodling on the ground. Whitey looked like a total pacifist, so testing Blackie first made sense.
"Lemme see... There was a monster generation thing in the management window, right?"
I opened the gate management screen, and there was the monster generation button, glowing red.
"...This gonna be okay?"
Worries crept in—what if it went wrong? But even if it did, I could handle it. Had to check anyway.
I hit the button without hesitation.
Monster Generated.
Goblin.
Remaining Time: 12:00:00
"Huh? Not even an orc, a goblin?"
The summoned thing was way weaker than I'd hoped, and all the tension drained out of me. Had I built it up too much? Felt like a betrayal.
"No, snap out of it. This is good. Good..."
Actually, perfect timing to test Blackie and Whitey.
Fwaaah—!
"Oh, so that's how it generates?"
A blue light burst from the center of the field, dominating the atmosphere. Looking closer, light was rising from the ground. And from inside came a familiar sound.
Kirrrk—
The light faded, revealing a familiar green head. Crude shield, tiny stature—total goblin.
"Blackie, you got this guy?"
Squeak!
Super enthusiastic reply. Nodded hard and thumped its chest like Leave it to me!
"...Sigh, I dunno if I trust you."
Squeak-! Squeak-!
"Fine, take this first."
Blackie lunged at me, fist swinging in response to my doubt, but I blocked it with a finger and handed it a nearby sharp stick.
"Better than nothing. Go kill it."
Squeak-!
With an eager squeak, Blackie jumped down and charged the goblin.
"Oh, faster than I thought?"
Blackie moved better than expected. Might actually take down the goblin.
Squeak-! Squeak-!
Kerrk?!
Blackie closed in instantly. Palm-sized, but its speed was no joke. It swung the stick at the startled goblin.
Squeak-!!!
Kerrk.
Right before the stick hit the goblin's eye—
Thwack.
Sque... ak...
Blackie got smacked by the goblin's wooden club and flew off pathetically.
Thud—
"Haa..."
It was forehead-slapping. Blackie wobbled around, dazed from the club hit. I shook my head watching it, then called Whitey over.
Squeak...?
"You get that guy?"
Squeak...
Yeah, no. Way weaker than expected. Couldn't even handle one goblin.
"Sigh... whatever, as long as you farm jelly or something."
They were weak now, so I'd raise 'em. Eventually, auto-farming. The skills looked promising from the desc.
"Alright, test something else."
I pulled a ziplock from my backpack.
"Needed a live test subject besides weeds."
Used Cleansing to make a small water orb, tore open the bag, and added two drops of barbecue sauce.
Kerrk?!
The goblin backed away seeing the purple-tinged orb, sensing danger. Even goblins get scared. Better than expected.
I aimed the mixed orb at it.
"Bye now."
Right as I was about to fire—
Squeak...!
Squeak!!
"What the—?!"
Blackie, freshly recovered, rushed over and pounded my leg, eyeing the orb enviously.
"You want this?"
Squeak!
I shook the orb side to side, and its eyes followed like it was hypnotized.
"...Eh, whatever."
Worried it might be poison for Blackie, but it looked so confident. Couldn't hold back.
I gave Blackie one orb.
Squeak...
"You want one too?"
Squeak...!
Whitey next to it looked interested too.
"Ugh... what is with you two?"
Given to Blackie, couldn't skip Whitey. Handed diluted barbecue sauce orbs to both.
Squeak! Squeak! Squeak...!
"You guys can hold those?!"
They rolled the orbs in their hands. Up close, they secreted slime to grip without bursting.
"Huh, more useful than I thought."
I glanced at the goblin's spot.
Kerrk??!!
"...When'd you get that far?"
It had sneaked meters away. Our eyes met as it tried to flee.
I closed the gap instantly.
"C'mere, you."
KERRRK!!!
Grabbed its head and dragged it back.
"Throw and hit it. Got it?"
Squeak!
Squeak...!
They took aim on my signal.
And—
Squeak!
Whoosh—!
Blackie threw first. Orb flew straight at me. Looked good.
Problem was—
"You fucking maniac, don't throw at me!"
It was aimed at me, not the goblin.
Whoosh—!
Kerrrk?!
Splat—
"Holy shit... thought I was done."
I used the goblin as a meat shield to barely dodge.
"You did that on purpose, you little shit!"
That bastard definitely smirked at me right before throwing.
"Get over here!"
Squeak!!!
Threw the goblin aside and chased Blackie. It grinned and ran as I closed in fast.
Wanted to nuclear-flick that smug face right now.
"Gotcha!"
Smack-!
Squeeee!!!
How dare a tiny thing run from me. Caught it quick and hammered its forehead till it hurt.
That's when—
Squeak...!
Splat!
Sizzle—
Kerrrrk...
"Whitey...?"
While I was punishing Blackie, the scene unfolded: Goblin bleeding from every hole, and Whitey casually shoving an orb into its mouth like Did I do good?
"...Eww."
Brain couldn't keep up. Then the goblin croaked, and messages popped up to confuse me more.
