The Chain-Link Skirt That Left No Gaps
The Female Knight Tribe, or Female Knight Tribe as they were called in the old tongue, was a race defined by two unchanging truths: every last one of them had been born wearing the armor that would guard them for the rest of their lives, and the entire race was female.
“Ahh! I’m standing! I’m standing, I swear! I really am standing!”
[So you were told not to… y’know… right? You wanted to be scolded, didn’t you!?]
“No, the guy just said he was standing on two legs…”
[Then say it that way! Why do you keep throwing around words that make me misunderstand everything!?]
WHAM!
Dyna’s massive war hammer came down like a meteor, and another Walker’s skull exploded in a shower of black sludge and wet chunks that splattered across the street.
Every member of the tribe was naturally unbreakable in a fight, but when it came to their true calling—guarding and escort duty—they were in a league of their own. That was when their honor, their loyalty, and their whole Here-knight spirit really shone.
“Whoa, this is no joke. Even though it looks so light when she swings.”
[Honestly it’s not even that heavy. We’ve been wearing it our whole lives! It’s feather-light and now it’s part of my body—I can’t take it off! It’s my lifeline.]
BOOM!
Dyna was trembling from my low-class teasing, but she was still protecting me perfectly, swinging that same oversized hammer in wide arcs that scattered more Walkers into bloody paste.
“I don’t even know how you swing something that big so smoothly. You know I’ve held one myself—do you have any idea how heavy it is?”
[Hehe, big is big. I’ll handle anything—big, thick, intimidating. As a proud Here-knight, I can swing anything I want.]
?
Why is she still glancing back at me?
The Walker she’d just smashed still had its glowing eyes, but the next swing turned it into a screaming baseball launched into the wall with a CRASH. It smashed flat against the building, then bounced off and landed on the roof like a dropped turd, limbs twisted and skull caved in.
[Hehe, let me ask again. How do you like my magnificent valor, Dyna Hercules? Does your spine tingle? Do your eyes roll back because you want to see my face right now?]
“I’m gonna sleep so bad! But honestly… I’d still love to see your face.”
Nothing in this world was perfect. Even a tough, strong, duty-obsessed Here-knight had one fatal flaw: their loyalty. They were specialists in combat and escort, yet every noble from every other race begged to have a Here-knight as their personal guard. The tribe, though, never accepted long-term contracts. They served for a set time only.
[But I can’t. I can’t tell you why. Even if it’s Ice Man, I still can’t show my bare face. It’s not personal—it’s a tribal vow. Don’t be mad at me.]
Anyone who asked about the reason got the same polite dodge. Thanks to that, the reputation of the modern Here-knights was that they were simply the best mercenary swordsmen in the land—nothing more, nothing less.
“I never expected anything. I just pictured what it would look like if they took it off. Oh, of course I meant your face!”
[Hooow… you’re still using that low-class tone to tease me.]
Anyway, Dyna’s deep voice kept dripping with embarrassment while I heard the soft rustle of her armor behind me. In a panic I dropped the pack I’d been carrying and started scanning the surroundings.
I was looking for the rifle I’d been clutching the whole time before Dyna tossed me into the fight. The war hammer had been left in the forest, and even if I could have handled a pneumatic hammer, I had no business swinging something that big near her. The rifle was the only thing I could trust to keep my body covered.
The heavy wall was doing its job, but the Here-knights were the ultimate tanks. Their aggro-pulling was so perfect that every time I looked up I saw more Walkers sprinting straight at me. I couldn’t relax for a second.
That was when I reached down and snatched the Garand rifle from the ground.
“If you’re coming with me, why did you run ahead alone—ah! Yellow Monkey! You’ve been looking good lately! It seems like you’re even setting up a little shelter because I’ve been gone for a while!”
“Eh? It’s Celestin-sama.”
“‘Eh? It’s Celestin-sama’?! You’ve stopped hiding it now? Not even a shred of respect or awe for your own master left?”
[Shelter… hehe, shelter…]
An elf with breasts that could crush concrete was sprinting toward me from behind, those massive tits bouncing wildly and swinging with every step, spraying clear sweat droplets like a sprinkler.
She was so desperate to grab me that she didn’t even notice the scene around us—the ruined buildings from the old human civilization and the wave of Walkers closing in. Instead she dropped my war hammer, stuck her hand straight into her Magic Poncho, and pulled out something heavy.
“Here!”
“What are you suddenly throwing?! What is this—huh?”
I flinched hard, remembering every three years of my body’s training, and shouted, but before the words left my mouth I caught whatever she’d hurled and immediately ejected the bolt on the Garand, slammed the new item into the chamber, and racked the bolt.
CLACK!
That was the exact moment the bolt locked back. I flattened myself to the ground and crawled between Dyna’s legs while she kept swinging the hammer at the approaching Walkers.
[W-what are you doing?! Where did you come from?!]
“There wasn’t any safer spot to shoot from. Oh, and this chain-link skirt? As expected of the Here-knights—zero gaps!”
[Don’t look! What are you doing under me?! I don’t just flatten anyone—I’m the one who gets flattened…]
“Alright, fire from the prepared shooters!”
[You were supposed to listen to me!]
BANG!
The shot wasn’t even aimed, and it wasn’t the military rifles I was used to, but the sound was still deafening. Fifty meters ahead the Walker that had been charging straight at us crumpled to the pavement, head perfectly hit.
“What?! Why are you shooting so well?! This is the first time!”
While the recoil of the first shot rang out, Dyna let out a surprised hum, but Celestin’s voice cut through the noise like a siren. She was spraying the revolver wildly, and the way she was hollering at my actions made it clear she couldn’t believe me.
“I can’t even get a proper shoulder rest!”
“Celestin-sama’s chest is so huge you need a proper recoil pocket!”
“What are you—?!”
BANG!
KIEEEEEEEK!
[Amazing! Compared to the hammer’s aesthetics it’s average, but as a weapon it’s perfect!]
The walker fell again the instant the trigger was pulled. Dyna sighed at the spent casings clinking against her boots, but she was still grinning as she kept swinging at the next one that rushed in.
[If you can, try to thin their numbers just a little more. The moment you feel safe, I’ll charge straight ahead and tear through their ranks.]
“Charge?”
[Here-knights are born to fight at the very front! Glory is waiting right there, and you want me to stay rooted here?! Unless it’s something else… no, that’s not it!]
“Why are you bringing up that word?!”
BANG! BANG! BANG!
I kept ignoring her nonsense complaints about her itching feet and kept firing. Even though the earplugs weren’t in, the disgusting Walker screams were still way louder than the gunshots.
That was when I heard it.
PING!
A familiar click echoed from the open chamber. The bolt slid forward and a fresh magazine dropped onto the pavement. The instant it landed, the shadow of the Here-knight above me vanished.
“Relo—where did you go?!”
[You didn’t even give the charge signal! I finally got a real weapon—my blood is boiling! I can’t hold back anymore!]
“Ah!”
I hadn’t seen her panties yet…!
Even though my pathetic cry echoed in the air, Dyna confirmed I was doing my part as the main damage dealer and charged straight into the enemy ranks without hesitation.
