Chapter 89: Where did He Wen go?
Chapter 89: Where did He Wen go?
“I don’t know; it could be the second or third floor. He Wen’s crying is intermittent, and I can’t tell where it’s coming from.” Hu Zhen is so anxious that he jumps on the spot. Seeing An Ran’s panicked expression, he pleads, “An Ran, what should we do now? What should we do?”
“What else can we do? First, we need to block the source of the zombies, coax He Wen, and then slowly deal with those in the passage,” An Ran replies, raising her hand to rub her aching temple.
Chen Jiao has never taken care of He Wen and doesn’t know how to comfort a child. If she can’t soothe He Wen, they need to eliminate the scattered zombies first to avoid being surrounded from both sides, which would be very dangerous.
The zombies don’t move fast. In addition to their bites, they are also slow. As a human, Chen Jiao can kill them if she is a little more agile.
There aren’t many zombies—at most a dozen or twenty. They can find a room, lock He Wen inside to let him cry for a bit, and then run out to block the zombies. He Wen's cries might even attract the zombies’ attention, allowing Chen Jiao to take them out from behind. This could actually work!
The only issue is whether Chen Jiao will be willing to kill the zombies.
Just as An Ran and Hu Zhen discuss their countermeasures, Chen Jiao rushes out of the sewage passage and runs straight to the passenger seat of An Ran's car. She flings the door open, jumps in, and shouts, “Drive! Drive! Drive faster! There are zombies inside! The ones in the lobby on the first floor seem to be able to communicate with each other, and they’re all crawling into the sewage passage. Run! They can scream too!”
“What do you mean?” An Ran is shocked. How can zombies communicate? Can scream?
Chen Jiao is panting and has no time to explain. Outside the car, Hu Zhen is frantic. She peers through the window at Chen Jiao and asks, “Where did you take He Wen? Where did He Wen go?”
Chen Jiao raises her face, her expression uneasy and hesitant. Finally, she stammers, “He cried too much…”
“Where did He Wen go??” Hu Zhen seems petrified, standing blankly outside the car window as she stares at Chen Jiao. Suddenly, she goes wild, leaning against the window of An Ran's car. She crosses the steering wheel in front of her, grabs Chen Jiao's clothes, and asks in a sharp voice, “Where did you lose He Wen? Where did you lose my son?”
The horn blares as Hu Zhen presses down on it, its mighty sound echoing throughout the basement. A few zombies gather at the entrance, drawn by the noise. Behind them, more zombies appear, and as Chen Jiao has said, these zombies seem to be able to communicate with one another, shouting and calling for friends, creating a horde that surges toward the entrance of the basement.
“Hu Zhen! Get down! Don’t lose it, calm down!!!” An Ran shouts, watching the group of zombies slowly approach. She is so anxious that she slaps Hu Zhen, who is still leaning over the steering wheel, trying to get through to her. Hu Zhen struggles with Chen Jiao, crying out for her son.
“I locked him in the doctor’s office on the third floor, okay?!!!” Chen Jiao yells, grappling with Hu Zhen. As they cry, Chen Jiao shouts back, “Can’t you see what the situation is now? Carrying around a crying child! Staying alive is the priority! Staying alive is the priority! Do you understand?!”
