Chapter 73: You Also Like Sunbathing
Chapter 73: You Also Like Sunbathing
Why is it that everyone else who has just given birth is still expelling lochia, yet An Ran is the only one who doesn’t feel itchy? She doesn’t know. If she tries to explain, it might come across as stubbornness or embarrassment. So she decides not to say anything and just follows the crowd.
Looking again into the plastic bag, besides the fish liver oil, there are also some probiotics and vitamin D supplements, all intended for infants. An Ran rummages through and keeps a few boxes for herself, giving the rest to Hu Zhen.
The sun shines outside the window today. In the slightly cool air, the warm sunlight makes her feel a bit lazy.
After a while, An Ran waits for Doll to wake up, feeds her, and then holds her by the window to bask in the sun. Looking at the baby’s white and tender face and smelling her milky scent, An Ran smiles and says, “You also like to sunbathe, huh? This warm sunlight is wonderful. We will live well, right, my dear?”
Doll does not respond. Her little body is only slightly larger than her head, and she has no idea what An Ran is talking about. She squints her eyes, hums a few sounds, then closes her eyes and falls asleep.
Once the baby is asleep, it’s mommy's free time!
An Ran quietly places her in the crib, covers her with a quilt, takes the fruit knife, and heads out to kill zombies.
As she steps out of the ward, she sees Hu Zhen dragging a zombie corpse. An Ran waves at her and heads toward the escalator.
There’s a large group of zombies on the escalator that hasn’t been dealt with yet. As An Ran approaches, she sees a pregnant zombie crawling toward a corner, struggling over the corpses of its peers. She freezes for a moment, feeling a wave of silent sorrow wash over her. Raising the knife in her hand, she stabs the pregnant zombie in the head.
This disaster is like a great wave sweeping away sand; no one is spared. Those who are destined to become zombies—be they babies or pregnant women—inevitably do so. And those who won’t become zombies, like An Ran, are immune no matter what they do.
Several more zombies come up from the escalator, and An Ran dispatches them one by one. After collecting some diamonds, she crouches down at the corner and observes. The number of zombies on the escalator side is decreasing. If she goes down the escalator, she spots a large potted plant at the bottom. Behind it are ATMs and machines for automatic registration, payment, and printing examination results.
Seeing fewer zombies below gives An Ran some courage. Knife in hand, she descends to the third floor. Initially, she intends to assess how many zombies are on this level, but when she turns around, she notices a glass door leading to the sky garden on the third floor. The sun shines on the lush green grass, making it look incredibly inviting.
While others might focus solely on the threat of zombies, An Ran finds herself enchanted by the sky garden, feeling a strange sense of closeness to it. She stands there for a long time, gazing at the scene with longing before turning back to the escalator.
"Ah~~!!!!"
A scream echoes from above on the fourth floor, causing chaos among the zombies on the third floor as they all rush toward the escalator. An Ran looks up, her heart racing at the sound of the scream.
