Chapter 69: Rushing Out
Chapter 69: Rushing Out
An Ran clears out the zombies on the fourth and fifth floors. Given enough time, she thinks that perhaps she could eliminate all the zombies in the hospital. However, they can’t create food or use magic to conjure it. Living in this hospital for a lifetime is utterly unrealistic.
And the zombies are evolving. Although An Ran doesn’t know where she can go once she leaves, it is clear that rushing out to find a safe place while the zombies are still manageable is a necessary step. They will never know if the outside world is better than their current situation. Maybe just a few blocks away, normal human society still exists.
An Ran's determination to rush out stems not from confidence in her own abilities but from her trust in her car. When her ex-husband bought it, he envisioned a vehicle that is strong, durable, large, and capable of withstanding collisions. It can navigate highways and cross mountains—built to last!
An Ran often wonders why Zhan Lian chose such an impressive car but never drives it. He is stationed in the northwest and has no use for it, leaving it to collect dust in the garage.
An Ran herself isn’t fond of driving such a massive vehicle. It consumes too much fuel, is unattractive—black and imposing—and it takes up an entire parking space. She always worries about scratching other cars.
Occasionally, she hears neighbors mention that her ex-husband's car is bulletproof. Why would an ordinary soldier buy a bulletproof vehicle? Is he afraid of being pursued by a mistress after leaving the army?
An Ran has silently criticized her ex-husband’s illogical choices countless times. If it weren’t for the labor pains she experiences in the middle of the night and her inability to find a taxi, she would never consider driving that bulletproof vehicle.
Now, however, it seems to be a stroke of luck. As long as she can gather enough supplies, take the baby to the underground garage, and get in the car, she can make her escape. A bulletproof car is no joke!
Hu Zhen, who stands beside the bed, lowers her head in thought. Persuaded by An Ran, she nods and asks, “Okay, what should I do now? How can I help?”
“Help me move those flowers and plants from the fifth floor. The fourth floor is littered with corpses, and the air is unbearable.” An Ran lies back on the bed, tilting her head to smile at Hu Zhen. “Once you move the plants, throw all the bodies out of the window. I need to clean up the third floor. Also, do you want to grab some cod liver oil for Doll and He Wen? I saw leaflets on the wall saying that children should be given cod liver oil starting twenty days after birth.”
In truth, there are very few zombies in the safety staircase. An Ran doesn’t have to eliminate all the zombies on the third floor before heading to the second and first floors to reach the basement. She can use the safety staircase to access the basement directly. However, she realizes that once they reach the basement, they will still need to search for supplies after leaving to find a safe place.
Not to mention, the babies' diapers and formula can’t go without replenishment for even a day. The hospital has plenty of those supplies, so if they are going to leave, they need to take the diapers and formula with them to avoid having to search for them after getting outside.
