Chapter 674: Admiration Is Not the Same as Love
“No.” An Ran shook her head. Her answer was firm, and there was even a hint of sarcasm in her tone. “We let him go because we’re afraid of Jinmen Base, and he would spare us? He absolutely would not.”
“Alright then. We get ready for battle. If Jinmen Base comes, we fight them to the end.”
The warm breeze passed by. Zhan Lian looked at his delicate wife, her face full of tragic resolve, and for some reason he smiled.
The future was serious. Maybe because if Jinmen Base’s attack, none of them would survive.
But Zhan Lian suddenly felt light-hearted. He found An Ran more and more adorable.
She was like a tree, growing slowly, becoming more and more like the kind of person he admired.
Admiration was not the same as love. He loved her, but now he admired her too.
The next day the sun rose as usual. The weather was not as harsh as before.
Fatty’s people were thrilled.
After hearing An Ran say that plants underground had begun sprouting, Fatty excitedly gathered agricultural experts to discuss how to plan farmland and build a new home.
Those who had come out of the Grand Fortune Hotel were still confined in a designated area. They were not allowed to wander. Since manpower was scarce, no guards were assigned.
But even with two days of clear weather, Fatty was not worried they would escape. In this frozen land, running outside meant freezing to death within a day on the endless snowfield.
Aside from those unhappy Grand Fortune survivors, everyone else was in high spirits.
Wood-type ability users were incredibly busy. They prepared every seed they had collected. Some needed soaking, some needed germination. They were simply waiting for the snow to melt to begin planting.
Inspired by the Grand Fortune Hotel’s automated water system, earth-type, metal-type, and water-type ability users decided to build a water plant beside the Grand Fortune Hotel. When spring arrived, they hoped every household could have drinkable tap water.
These few days, Zhan Lian pulled Luo Feifan aside to tinker with something in secret. The two of them whispered and fiddled with tools. It was very mysterious.
When An Ran asked Zhan Lian about it, he refused to say anything.
Far to the north, in the enormous Jinmen Base, the villa of the solemn Old General Chen was full of soldiers moving in and out. The old man, sitting on the sofa in the living room, did not look pleased.
He had been retired for years, living a quiet life. He looked vigorous, with the healthy flush of someone who exercised often. Because his home was warm all day, he only wore a baseball-style long-sleeved shirt. He sat on the sofa listening to the reports of the soldiers.
In the nearby kitchen, Chen Jiao was helping Aunt Huang pick vegetables at the large kitchen island. She occasionally stretched her neck to peek outside, but she couldn’t see anything happening in the living room. Her expression showed clear disappointment.
Aunt Huang worked efficiently and glanced at Chen Jiao’s distracted look.
“Miss Jiao, what are you looking for?”
Chen Jiao snapped out of it, tossed the vegetable in her hand into the bowl, thought for a moment, and then cautiously asked,
“Aunt Huang, you’ve been with my great-uncle the longest. Have you heard when he plans to march south?”
