Chapter 673: Waiting for Reinforcements
And although Chen Chaofa’s ability could perfectly imitate a person’s appearance and abilities, there were some things he could never copy.
For example, the bond between Flesh Flower and An Ran. That connection existed inside their minds.
Flesh Flower was not something An Ran controlled with her ability at all.
At moments like this, An Ran almost wished Chen Chaofa had tried copying her. If she had pretended to die and let him take her form and escape, maybe none of this would be so complicated now.
“So my feelings now are the same as yours were back then.” Yun Tao put down his chopsticks, leaned back in his chair, and looked seriously at An Ran. He no longer ate, only spoke. “An Ran, we came all the way from Xiangcheng to here. You should understand what kind of person I am. We have to stay alive, for ourselves and for the people around us. Losing our tempers won’t solve this.”
An Ran sat opposite him in silence. Her eyes lowered to the table surface.
Yun Tao continued. “Actually, have you ever thought about something? Chen Chaofa is just like me, quietly staying in the room next door. What is he waiting for?”
“What is he waiting for?”
“Reinforcements.”
Those three words made An Ran’s face go completely pale.
Because the logic made sense.
The real one is real. The fake one cannot remain flawless forever.
Right now it was still early. Many details had not been asked yet. Once time passed and details slipped, Chen Chaofa would be exposed easily.
What he was doing now was simply stalling.
Chen Chaofa’s backing was the Jinmen Base. The leader of Jinmen Base was the Old General Chen. If Chen Chaofa was trapped at Yaoyang Base, cut off and surrounded, how could the Old General not send troops to rescue his own son?
Chen Chaofa was buying time, waiting for reinforcements from Jinmen.
An Ran stood up abruptly. She didn’t even clean the table. She rushed out of the Grand Fortune to find Zhan Lian and Luo Feifan.
The moment she stepped outside into the snowy sunlight, she stopped. Her brows furrowed as she listened to the faint voices inside her mind.
Countless green sprouts were beginning to germinate beneath the soil. Whispering joyfully to each other. Spring was coming.
Plants felt nature more directly than anything else. Even the smallest change in temperature could transform them.
An Ran smiled. Then she suddenly felt no hurry anymore.
Spring was coming. The snow would melt. Animals would wake and move again.
Jinmen Base and Yaoyang Base would soon be overwhelmed with new problems. Sending troops across this distance to attack Yaoyang Base would not be easy at all.
Still, she went to tell Zhan Lian.
Zhan Lian was outside in the snow modifying a loader, preparing to plow the snow away and build a wall of ice outside the buildings.
After hearing An Ran’s explanation, Zhan Lian wasn’t surprised at all.
He tossed the wrench onto the pile of dismantled machinery parts, put an arm around An Ran’s shoulders, and said, “This isn’t urgent. We expected this a long time ago. Jinmen Base is a big hidden danger, but they’ll come sooner or later.” Then he frowned, looked toward the Grand Fortune Hotel, turned An Ran around, and held her shoulders firmly. “Then tell me this. Have you considered releasing Chen Chaofa? If we let him go, maybe we avoid Jinmen Base entirely.”
